Great experience in China!

This is a new and fun way to experience a country and it’s culture. Having free accommodation enables you to stay for a longer period of time, meaning you have more time to see the surrounding area. Working with children gives you the immersion into Chinese culture and is a very fun activity! Overall I would recommend this programe highly. I think it is suited for those who have prior experience volunteering with kids and for those who don’t. There are many camps in China giving you the flexibity to be placed anywhere and the providers are very keen to help sort out a specific location if you were looking towards one! The 5 day free stay in Yangshuo is very fun and I definetely recommend that too.

Don’t miss out!

Gotoco definitely sells itself short. Not only was my time in China the most unique yet very affordable experience/adventure that I have been on, but it has taught me way more than I had anticipated. In fact, the Chinese culture was not the only culture that this experience introduced me to. I had the opportunity to meet various people from different backgrounds and this only enriched the experience. I would like to thank Gotoco for a cultivating and fun summer!

You should go!

If you were to receive a program that was exactly what you were looking for and you get notified of it at least one month in advance, then I highly recommend going! Going to China gave me a good experience in traveling, seeing a foreign country, learning about culture and history, and learning how to become independent and taking care of yourself. You also end up learning so much about yourself, people, and other miscellaneous details about life that you wouldn't have learned if you did not visit a foreign country.
I personally loved seing more of the world, meeting people and communicating despite the language barrier, learning to take responsibility for myself, becoming more proactive. Because my program placement was in Yangshuo, the sightseeing and everyday views were breathtakingly beautiful. I also spent some time in Hong Kong before and after going to China, which was another plus in my experience.

Would definitely recommend

I would definitely recommend participating to a friend as it gives you the opportunity to try out teaching, probably for the first time, while experiencing a brand new culture and meeting new people and making new friends.
Some of the weekend trips we all took together, to the beaches, to a lake, to different villages or cities, were really good. Especially given how well we all got on together. These were a chance for us to get away from BOB for a bit and have some fun together.
The trip to Yanghsuo afterwards was incredible. The scenery, the town, the stalls, scootering around to the mud lakes. A friend and I biked to around the mountains to the place shown on the 20 yuan note which was a great day in Yangshuo.

Great experience

Great chance to experience a new culture and get some real world teaching experience. I was given the freedom to have lessons not only in the classroom but out on the lake by the school during kayaking classes. I would most certainly recommend this trip to all of my friends in the United Kingdom.

I also participated in the free stay in Yangshuo at the end of the trip, which is a must do. Yangshuo was beautiful and the activities were plentiful.

What would you improve about this program?
Better communication from the company would be great - multiple emails went unanswered. Assign the program long before departure date instead of three weeks.

Free Summer TEFL Program in China!

The program I was allocated to was accompanying a group of kids from a school in Nanning on a field trip to Xi'an, while teaching them English in the process. This was an experience I would recommend to anyone, as we visited tourism sites, engaged in traditional activities and learned about local culture. This was a lot easier to do than when exploring China alone, as all the activities were organised, and it felt more like a field trip, than a work placement, as almost all the activities, even the teaching, were fun.

After the conclusion of this trip, there was a free stay in Yangshuo, which i would also greatly recommend, as it offers a completely different side of China to explore.

What would you improve about this program?
The only negative experience about the whole process was the application and confirmation, as these came quite late, leaving limited time to organise visas and making flights more expensive

Free summer TEFL program in China

On this trip all participants are allocated a school with which to work with, and my program was accompanying a school from Nanning on their field trip to Xi’an.
It was an extremely interesting trip, visiting famous sites such as the Terracotta Army, while teaching the kids English and talking to them in English throughout.
I would thoroughly recommend the experience to anyone, as it benefited both myself and the kids, and the other teachers were amazing hosts and very friendly.

I also participated in the free stay in Yangshuo at the end of the trip, which is a must do. Yangshuo was beautiful and the activities were plentiful.

What would you improve about this program?
Providing more information about the level of the children’s English would have helped with preparing appropriate material before arrival.

Eye-opening and invaluable experience

My experience with Gotoco really benefited me in the way that I discovered a love for teaching which in turn improved my self confidence and provided me with invaluable experience of work in a school setting, making a difference in young people's lives. As a result of this I am likely to consider it as a potential career path for my future. The opportunity also brought me wonderful friendships and adventures, and a complete immersion in a new and exciting culture which really opened my eyes and I learnt a lot from. There were too many highlights to list, but I am incredibly grateful to Gotoco for providing me with such an amazing and once in a lifetime opportunity.

What would you improve about this program?
all options of individual programs available be more clear to participants so they can make a more informed decision as to where they want to spend their summer
