Córdoba

My experience was one I will never forget. From the people, food, environment, language- Cordoba was the best choice for me to volunteer at. Pedro, Nati, Julio, Lucas, and Mabel are the sweetest most genuine people I’ve met. If I had any questions or concerns they were there to help me. They truly made me feel welcome and at home. The staff at my placement were extremely kind & welcoming as well. If I could have extended my trip I definitely would have. In Cordoba you’ll always find something fun to do, there is so much this place has to offer. I will be back for sure!

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
I toured La Cumbrecita with other volunteers and loved it. It was fun learning about the history of it and enjoying it with friends made it more memorable.
Pros
  • Safe neighborhood
  • Food was amazing
  • Nightlife
Cons
  • Safety in the city made me hesitant to explore on my own
  • During the day some places close
  • 2 weeks was not enough time

Enriching!!!

I found the program amazing and enriching! It was extremely easy to navigate, simple and thorough, safe and informing, flexible, inexpensive, with lots of options. The people I met along the way were amazing! They have reminded me of the good in people.

The volunteer program I chose through IVHQ involved taking care of animals on an equine therapy ranch for underprivileged children, assisting those children, as well as special needs, in horseback riding, basics of planting seeds and composting, maintenance and cleaning of animals and pens, and assisting the children with feeding the animals. It was great to see their smiling faces!

Pros
  • Enriching
  • Thorough
  • Simple

The best and most rewarding 2 weeks ever!

I have recently got back from Córdoba after spending 2 weeks there and I already can’t wait to go back! Everything from the host family to the volunteering placements to the local area was perfect. As a 16 year old with no previous experience of travelling alone I was very nervous in the run up to the trip, however my nerves completely vanished and I felt completely at home almost instantly because the family which I stayed with (Pedro, Nati, Julio, Bauti y Martí) are some of the loveliest and kindest people I have ever met who are more than happy to make your time there as special as they can. Lucas, a family friend and a worker, is someone who I now consider a really good friend of mine having spent almost every night out with him.

I do think some knowledge of Spanish (advanced beginners and up maybe?) or at the very least a willingness to try and learn little bits whilst you are there, is necessary to fully make the most out of your trip as most if not all of the placements are almost exclusively in Spanish.

My one big piece of advice is that to get the most out of this trip you really do need to force yourself out of your comfort zone and to try your hardest to make friends with everyone around you ie the other volunteers, the family (although you’ll have no problem with that), the people who you’ll encounter while working, and even some of the locals which you’ll meet if you go to Quepi (the local bar).

All in all, IVHQ Córdoba is a trip that I would do 1000 times again if I could and would recommend it to almost anyone of all ages and interests. However the enjoyment you get out of the holiday is entirely dependent on what you make of it. If you choose to spend all of your free time at the house, you’ll have a much worse time than the person who went out exploring the local area with other volunteers!

Pros
  • The host family
  • The other volunteers
  • The work placements

Reliable, safe, fun, flexible, program!

I started looking for a summer volunteering abroad program in the spring, which is considered to be a bit on a whim. Many programs were either filled up or no longer accepting applicants by that time, but IVHQ was. I knew I wanted a Spanish-speaking location, people around my age, safety, and to volunteer with the local community. With what seemed like the hundreds of programs IVHQ offers, I felt overwhelmed, but hopped on the phone with a representative who helped me narrow down my options. You can completely cater your trip to your wants/needs. The instructions for my trip were crystal clear, and I truly had an incredible time. If you're looking for a flexible, safe, fun, well-managed program, don't look any further. Travel with IVHQ- you will not regret it.

Pros
  • AMAZING host family!!!
  • You can decide what you want to do on your trip pretty last-minute. Everything is very laid back and flexible in Argentina.
  • Almost everything is super cheap for out-of-country/continent travelers!
Cons
  • Not the best/widest selection food around the area.
  • About a 30-40 minute bus ride from the accommodation to the city center.
  • For me, a very social person, I got lucky with the other volunteers I was staying with. It's very random, and I've heard it really depends. Make sure to come during the on-seasons like summer and early spring when there are more people to interact with.

IVHQ Cordoba

Volunteering in Córdoba, Argentina was an incredibly rewarding and life-changing experience. From the moment I arrived in this beautiful city, I was greeted with warm smiles and a sense of community that made me feel instantly at home.

The project I joined focused on providing meals to children and families from underprivileged communities.

Working alongside local volunteers and other international participants was an enriching experience. Despite our diverse backgrounds and languages, we all shared the common goal of making a positive impact. We collaborated seamlessly, sharing ideas, learning from each other, and building strong friendships that transcended borders.

Not only did I contribute to the community, but I also learned so much about Argentine culture and customs.

The sense of fulfillment I experienced during my time in Córdoba cannot be put into words. The impact they had on my life is immeasurable, and I returned home with a deeper appreciation for the power of community, empathy, and compassion.

Volunteering in Córdoba, Argentina taught me the importance of giving back and making a difference wherever we can. It also showed me that even small acts of kindness can have a ripple effect, spreading positivity far beyond our immediate surroundings.

I am forever grateful for this opportunity and would highly recommend volunteering in Córdoba, or any other place, to anyone looking to make a meaningful impact, discover new cultures, and grow as an individual. The memories, friendships, and lessons I gained from this experience will be cherished for a lifetime.

Pros
  • Food and accommodation
  • City life
  • Close to beautiful landscapes and tours

Childcare Volunteering at Argentina

It was good to interact with local people and also with other volunteers. I did childcare volunteering. Therefore I left holler at 7:30am and did some volunteering work at a local kindergarten. Sometimes I had problems with understanding Argentinian Spanish, but all coworkers were good to me and they explained what I should do slowly. One of the good point was food here. I was attracted by the good food that local stuff made for us. Especially Carne Asado was amazing. Also exploring the central of the city with other volunteers was super fun. At first I thought Argentina would be dangerous and I should not go outside during the off time. However Córdoba was safe enough as long as you are being careful with your belongings, and looking around the city was great experience. For example, I did cafecito sometimes, and tried Padle. I got great friendships during this program with other volunteers.

Pros
  • Explore another world
  • Doing volunteer
  • Improve language
Cons
  • I expected to use Spanish a lot but I spoke English with other volunteers a lot as well
  • Going to a other world, sometimes hard

Cordoba construction volunteer

What an experience! We built dog houses and put up fences for a dog shelter. It house about 25 dogs and most re up for adoption. The host family I stayed with are very kind and hospitable, and approachable. The rooms are dormitory style by gender. If you want your own private room, it would be at an additional cost. As a solo traveler, volunteering through IVHQ was affordable and I felt very safe. Expect to do a lot of walking. The best way to change money is through the western Union app. It doubles your money.

Pros
  • Safe
  • Local experience
  • Learning the culture and language
Cons
  • One of the dogs the host has would grab and tug on your clothes

Questions & Answers

Hi Alvaro, While visa, flights, travel insurance are not included in the program fees, we understand that one of the biggest costs when preparing for a volunteer trip abroad are the flights. To help overcome this, International Volunteer HQ has partnered with STA Travel to create flight itineraries especially for IVHQ volunteers. You can find more details on our website.
