Go & experience

If you are looking for a volunteer program in Israel during these crucial times of war post October 7th, please look into Livnot, it is one of greatest things I've done in my life. The experiences were so impactful, they stay me and continue to be relevant and guide me 12 years later... As a young adult at Livnot I really started to explore who I was, my Judaism and how to purposefully bring my gifts into the world. In the organization and the group we were all in pursuit of connecting with our truest selves and encouraging each other to do so in an honest and loving way. We had tremendous joy building, digging, repairing, wandering and exploring together... If those pursuits move you, motivate you, energize you. Lech Lecha, go and join the Livnot family, help build yourself by building Israel!

What was your funniest moment?
We were always laughing, so joyful! But at the end of our 3 day hike, crossing the banana fields, singing "we're bananas", "drunk" with exhaustion and relieved/proud/elated to see the finish line, the Mediterranean sea! That was a very laughter filled, "funny" moment!
Pros
  • challenging self growth journey
  • most encouraging mentors
  • lifetime friendships
Cons
  • do not expect luxurious comfort
  • It'll be really hard to leave
  • people will have a hard time understanding what you experienced

Inspiring Community Service with Impact: A Review of the Rebuild Homes Volunteer Program

Volunteering with the Rebuild Homes program in Israel has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. This program focuses on rebuilding homes that were destroyed or heavily damaged in the Gaza war, providing much-needed hope, stability, and support to families who have lost so much. The initiative not only uplifts communities in need but also fosters a deep sense of unity and resilience among all involved.

From the start, the program stands out for its exceptional organization and commitment to making a lasting difference. Volunteers receive thorough training and guidance, with experienced coordinators available every step of the way. Despite the physical demands of construction work, the program ensures that every volunteer feels supported and confident in their role, regardless of previous experience. Safety measures are emphasized, and volunteers are provided with the tools and equipment necessary to work effectively and safely, which is a huge plus.

What truly sets this program apart, however, is its emphasis on community building and mutual respect. Working alongside local residents and other international volunteers, I was struck by the genuine sense of camaraderie that developed as we all worked together toward a common goal. The program encourages volunteers to engage directly with the families and communities they are serving, which makes the experience incredibly personal and meaningful. Hearing the stories of resilience from those impacted by the conflict added a layer of understanding and empathy that made the work even more impactful. It’s not just about rebuilding homes; it’s about restoring hope and creating a brighter future for families affected by tragedy.

The program also provides ample opportunity to explore Israel's rich culture, history, and landscape. Volunteers are given time to visit local landmarks and participate in cultural events, creating a well-rounded experience that combines humanitarian work with meaningful cultural exchange. This balance allows for a deeper connection to the country and a more comprehensive understanding of the complex issues at play, all of which enhance the impact of the volunteer experience.

Seeing the tangible progress we made each day was incredibly fulfilling. At the end of my time with the program, I could look at the completed work and feel a profound sense of accomplishment, knowing that my contributions had made a real, positive impact on families who had been through so much. The gratitude and warmth of the community we were helping was palpable, reinforcing just how vital this work is.

The Livnot volunteer program in Israel is an exceptional opportunity for anyone looking to make a positive difference in the world. It’s a chance to contribute meaningfully, connect deeply with others, and gain invaluable life skills and perspectives. I wholeheartedly recommend this program to anyone interested in making a difference. Whether you are a seasoned volunteer or a first-timer, you will find the experience transformative and incredibly rewarding. This program doesn’t just rebuild homes – it rebuilds lives, communities, and hope.

My time at Livnot

Even though I was only part of Livnot for a week in 2014, I continue to look back fondly at my time there. Tzfat is an incredible place and Livnot helps people see what is so special about the city, Israel, and Judaism. The combination of classes, volunteering and outdoor adventures were a perfect balance for fun and learning. The most memorable part for me was taking a hike at night. I'd never done that before and haven't since. It really helped me sharpen my senses and appreciate wildlife in a way I hadn't yet. I was even able to co-host a talent show! The variety of programming Livnot offers makes it a fantastic trip for any Jew.

My time at Livnot

I had the privilege to spend my summer at Livnot Ulihibanot a few summers ago. It. Was a life changing experience. My morning started with the sunrise looking at at the mountains. I then experienced a touch of spirituality, a dose of hiking, and a pinch of volunteering every week I was there. It was really inspiring, and I get excited every time I go back to visit. Thank you Aharon Botzar and the whole Livnot family for everything you do.

Absolutely Incredible Program!

Words cannot describe how deeply this program impacted me and other participants. I have never learned, thought, laughed, and smiled more in one week of my life. The leaders and fellow participants were all kind, insightful, and smart people. The campus that participants live on is conviently located right in the old city and has a beautiful view of the mountains which is especially nice at sunset. We hiked, volunteers, learned about Kabbalah, and observed Shabbat.

Home away from home

Even though the Livnot program was only a week long, the environment among the people and building very quickly made me feel at home. It was nice that the group was small, so I got to really know the people even though the program was short. We did things as a family, including cooking and dishes, and the communal feel of these mundane tasks made them fun. The staff was friendly and supportive, and introduced stimulating conversations and experiences. I went on breathtaking hikes and felt like a part of the community through the service. It was overall amazing!

What would you improve about this program?
I think that the program could be improved by introducing more community service and ways to continue doing community service.

Amazing!

Livnot is an incredible experience and the best way to see Israel and meet her people. The in-depth program allows you to explore Judaism and the country in a very unique and supported manner. The entire trip is based on volunteering and learning and truly allows the participants to “build and be built”. In all of my many travel experiences (in Israel and elsewhere) no other organization provides the diverse and dynamic experience of Livnot!

What would you improve about this program?
Continue growing and offering more and more programming.

Livnot U'Lehibunot amazing experience

I would and have recommended the program to numerous people. It was an amazing adventure which I hope many more people will have the opportunity to participate in. From the amazing people that you get to meet, to the community building aspect of it, not to mention the amazing hikes. Through this experience I was able to see Israel in a new light. I had done birthright prior to participating in Livnot, and I would recommend Livnot over birthright much more. Not only do you get a better feel of the country of Israel, but you also learn so much more about the Jewish culture as well. Finally the people that I met through the program have definitely make an impact on my life, both participants of the program along with people who work in Livnot.

Questions & Answers

The volunteers live in the heart of the old city in ancient, dug out rooms. It is incredible. Each room has its own bathroom and the rooms sizes vary from 3 people per room to 5. They also each have windows and access to air (don't be put off by the 'dug out' description. I only mean they are each a part of the extensive excavation that Livnot has done over the past 35 years and they are mostly...
