About Program

- Volunteer in rural Maasai communities in Kenya or Tanzania.
- Explore local villages, learn about traditional Maasai culture and take Swahili lessons.
- Take a lorry ride on safari, with a Maasai warrior guide, and see if you can spot the the Big Five.
- Walk with Maasai mamas and experience firsthand the challenges of the daily "water walks".

In the summer of 2012 I went to the Masai Mara in Kenya for 4 weeks. People in The Netherlands warned me: Africa is going to change something in you, it won't leave your body! I said I'll see, I'll just experience it. Now I say: you can't explain Africa, you have to feel it!! I've had an amazing time with the African Impact 'Masai Mara big cat, wildlife research & conservation' project. I've seen so much wildlife, from lions to a herd of 53 elephant.The project is not only about wildlife, I've also gotten to know a tribe of wonderful people: The Maasai. Naboisho Conservancy gives you the best of everything. I can't say that this was a once in a lifetime experience, because I'm definitely going back to this beautiful place!

Why did you choose this program?

I have worked with other volunteer health organizations and wanted to learn more about Me to We. I had been to India with Me to We and had done a build there among other cultural activities. I was hoping to have more experience in my professional field with this trip to Africa. A cache when you involve older individuals that are professionals is to tap into their expertise.

What did your program provider assist you with, and what did you have to organize on your own?

Much of the organizing was done online through the Me to We website, the program provider organized a few meetings and email reminders. The schedule was set by Me to We, via feedback of our program provider. I organized my flight on my own.

What does an average day/week look like as a participant of this program?

Me to We is more about empowering social awareness. There is only a 30% of the program which is actually volunteering. I would relate my experience as "volunteer tourism."

The average day consists of 70% social awareness, visits to schools and health facilities, as well as learning about the culture through the water walk and coming into people's homes. 30% was volunteering either through a build or hospital.

Raghavendra (Ricky) is an incredible person, he has been with me to we for almost 10 years, he loves going for adventure, meeting and interacting with new people, learning about new cultures, and tasting new food and going to new places.

What is your favorite travel memory?

When I traveled to Tanzania with ME to WE to host a trip, the interactions I had were so authentic and so natural which touched my heart. One of the best part of that trip was when this kid from the school came and held my hand every time when I went to school. It was unreal that we didn't say a single word to each other but we were connected.

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

Working for ME TO WE changed my life in many ways. First of all, it helped me to open up to the world and the issues around the world and ME TO WE gave me an opportunity to change lives not just of people who travel with us but also people WE are working for. I'm thankful for Me to We for making me a part of the movement.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

Couple years ago I was hosting a youth group and my co-facilitator was a participant from another group I hosted many years ago. When I was talking to her and she told me about all the adventure she been through and how the trip with me became a stepping stone for all of her adventures. I felt so proud and honored that I was a part of something which changes lives.

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

I would love to go to Ecuador as I heard from people it's very a motivational and moving experience. Programs and communities are very rural and Ecuador is a beautiful county filled with amazing people and fascinating culture. I love to travel and I'm always wanting to experience a new culture to see differences and similarities between the culture I am from.

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

I think India is unique because of its people and because of people its culture is also very unique and fascinating. I'm especially proud of my team when a guest leaves from India and in the feedback, you hear that he had the best time of his life which is a team effort and I'm proud of them for all the hard work they do.

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

I think the biggest factor in being a successful company is how much closer the company is to the heart of the people of the company is working for as well, as for the people who are working for the company and how valued they find themselves within the company. That's what I believe in if the company takes care of their workers, workers will take care of the company.
