I spent two weeks at Na'ankuse in Namibia as part of the IVHQ Volunteering program working closely with animals at the wildlife reserve. For the price of the program my expectations were well exceeded! The accomodation, food and staff services were great and the experiences with the animals during the volunteer work is unlike anything I have seen. Being able to be so close to the wildlife whilst doing activities that make a difference was truly an unforgettable experience. I hope to go back soon!

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?

Walking with baby baboons, having them jump from person to person and rest on your head or shoulders!

Pros

Animal Experience
Meeting new people from around the world
Learning about San culture

What other participants should know

Cold showers

I had an incredible experience volunteering on the wildlife conservation program with IVHQ in Namibia. I met so many amazing people and had once in a lifetime opportunities and experiences with the animals in the wildlife sanctuary and reserve. This was my first time travelling solo, so it was reassuring that someone was at the airport to pick me up, and the local team was extremely helpful. Anyone considering taking part in this program should absolutely go for it! I have friends and memories for life.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?

I would definitely go for longer! I was there for 2 weeks, which was the perfect length of time in the sanctuary, but once you're there, they offer so many weekend/week trips to various places around Namibia that sound incredible.

Pros

Meet like-minded people
Once in a lifetime opportunities with the animals
Comfortable accomodation
