Palestine will always be in my heart

I had the incredible opportunity to participate in the Volunteer with Palestinian Refugees program by Go Palestine. It was definitly a meaningful experience. For five weeks, I worked closely with Palestinian refugees, both children and adults, assisting them with English conversation skills.

The program was well-organized and helped me understand the history and political situation, especially during these difficult times. The staff at Go Palestine were very supportive, especially Manar who was very kind and always ready to help. Palestinians who I met in Hebron welcomed me with open arms, making me feel like part of their family. My Arabic classes are one of the best parts of being in Palestine. I've learned so much in a short time, all thanks to my wonderful teacher, Ms. Duaa.

I strongly recommend this program to anyone who wants to learn more about the lives of Palestinian refugees.I plan to come back next year, inshallah :)

Pros
  • Amazing Arabic teacher

Yallaa Ala Falsteen - Vamos a Palestina

During my two weeks in Hebron, volunteering with a refugee program was an incredible experience. Teaching English to children at the Al Fawar War Camp was more than I thought it would be. It was "Momtaza" as my Arabic teacher taught me :)

Even though life under occupation isn't normal, but the strength and kindness of the Palestinian people deeply touched me. Palestine is truly a remarkable place to explore.

I truly recommand this program to anyone wanting to make a real difference and help Palestinian refugees in Al-Khalil.

Pros
  • Kindest people ever
  • Excellent Arabic classes

Finding peace in Hebron

At first, I was worried about traveling to Palestine and Hebron because of the on going war. But when I got there, I found my fears were unnecessary. The people of Hebron were very welcoming and kind, and the center made sure we were safe.

My time at the Palestine Center was one of the best experiences I've had in all my travels. While I was there, I taught English to children in a Al Fawar refugee camp, which I think could really help their futures. The center also arranged trips for us to visit different cities in Palestine, giving us a full cultural experience.

I'll be coming back next year because there's so much more to experience.

My Palestine Dream

Visiting Palestine had always been a dream of mine. My recent two-month-long experience with the Teach English in Palestine program completely changed my perspective. Despite the effects of war, the country is beautiful, the people are warm, the food is delicious, and the atmosphere is wonderful.

Teaching English to children in the refugee camps aged 8-13 was incredibly rewarding. The students were eager to learn, and the staff, especially Mr. Mohammad, were very supportive. I also connected with internationals and locals curious about other cultures. In addition, learning some Arabic was a bonus that I plan to continue. My teacher Duaa was amazing! Shukran Duaa :)

Shukran to all of you, and I hope to return in the future!

Two weeks in Palestine - Teaching, Learning, and Living with Purpose

Hello, I'm Jim, a 34-year-old from the USA, specifically California. Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to volunteer for two weeks in Palestine as part of a program that focuses on assisting Palestinian refugees. My time there was truly remarkable. I had the privilege of interacting with Palestinians, particularly those residing in Hebron and Bethlehem.

During my volunteer stint, I dedicated myself to teaching English, with a focus on conversational skills. The experience was beyond words, as I found myself surrounded by enthusiastic and interactive students. Our visits to refugee camps allowed me to witness firsthand the challenging living conditions they endure. Engaging with the families, I had the chance to hear their personal stories and understand the historical context behind their presence in the camps.

As part of this program, I took the opportunity to learn Arabic from one of the finest teachers at the center. Starting from scratch, the teacher's clear and effective methods made the learning process enjoyable. Speaking with locals further enhanced my Arabic skills, contributing to a well-rounded experience.

Reflecting on my time in Palestine, I cannot recommend this program enough to anyone interested in gaining a deeper understanding of the Palestinian culture and daily life. Particularly in light of recent events in Gaza, it is crucial to see the situation through their eyes. Living among Palestinians provides a unique perspective that goes beyond just witnessing, allowing for a genuine connection and appreciation of their experiences. I wholeheartedly encourage others to embark on this journey and immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of Palestinian life.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
Witnessing the checkpoints between cities in Palestine was truly jolting for me. It was shocking to observe the lack of freedom of movement and the physical separation imposed on Palestinian cities. This was an experience unlike anything I had encountered in any other city around the world that I have visited.
Pros
  • Dedication to Teaching English
  • Insight into Challenging Living Conditions
  • Language Learning and Cultural Immersion

An experience I won't forget!

Merhaba! My name is Oliver from the USA. I took part in the volunteer with refugees program for two weeks. Being immersed in the Palestinian culture and seeing the country is just an additional perk to the overall program. I had the opportunity to help the Palestinian refugees to learn English, and it was a great experience. The Go Palestine's staff is amazing, they will be there anytime you ask for a help, they will make your experience more enjoyable. They were awesome.

I also experienced visiting refugee camps in Hebron and Bethlehem every Monday, and it was an eye-opening to me. During the two weeks, I was able to help to teach conversational English to school students aged 12–17 years old, I had amazing and funny moments with them during the classes. Finally, I want to say that, the Go Palestine volunteer program is an excellent opportunity for anyone looking to volunteer and make a meaningful impact on the community in Palestine. Will come again Inshallah!

Pros
  • Great teaching experience.
  • Understanding the Palestinian case.
  • Leaving an impact on people

The MOST fulfilling experiences I have done in many years!

My experience with the Palestine center was one of the most fulfilling experiences I have done in my many years of travelling. Whilst, I was here I was able to help teach school children in a refugee camp essential English skill that could really change the course of their future.

The center was also great in preparing visits in our free time to see other cities in Palestine and they exhibited a real interest in ensuring everyone who stays with them has a robust experience with regards to the culture and the amazing food that exists in the country. I, like many, had some trepidation before travelling to Palestine and Hebron. However, after arriving at the center, my thoughts on safety could not have been further from the truth. The people in Hebron are so accommodating and kind, as well as the center putting a great emphasis on the safety of those who stay at the center.

I regularly would go out in the city at night and not have any fear of my safety given how amazing the hospitality and virtue of the Palestinian people was. I would highly recommend anyone who has ever thought about visiting Palestine and the West Bank to definitely consider the center as it was one of the best decisions I have made in my life and made for a fulfilling and eye opening experience

Pros
  • Organised Weekly Schedules
  • Helpful Staff
  • Fees are affordable

Great experience at the Palestinian Center

My name is Patrick, and I come from Denmark. During my stay in Hebron, the Palestinian Center has helped me obtain deeper knowledge about the conflict and the conditions here.

Through teaching English in Hebron and at a nearby refugee camp, I was given an amazing opportunity to interact with people, learning about their point of views, and their local customs, all the while making new friends. Additionally, I met up with local activists, and I learned about different initiatives being done in order to better the situation of the Palestinian people.

Palestinian culture offers both openness, kindness, and delicious culinary experiences. It has been very easy to get to know people from all over the place, even getting invited into their homes.

While there are frequent demonstrations, Hebron is generally safe for foreigners. Westerners are not being targeted, and with the use of some precaution, it is possible to stay out of any conflict.

I would definitely recommend visiting Hebron and volunteering at the Palestinian Center for anyone, who is interested in Arabic language and culture, politics, and international relations. You will gather hands-on experience, and widen your perspectives regarding the Palestinian situation.
