Angloville Poland Experience

My last three weeks working with Angloville have been nothing short of memorable. This programme is great for those who enjoy working with kids and is such a fantastic way to spend your summer.
This experience opened up a whole new world of volunteering for me. What an amazing way to meet extraordinary like minded people, stay in some great locations throughout Poland, learn about a different culture and all you had to do was talk.
Angloville also provide free walking tours on the Saturday before a programme and if you are able to do one, I would definitely recommend it. They provide you with free lunch and it is a great way to meet some people who may be on your programme for that week.
Personally, I think this is the best way to experience a country, it's people, and a great way to make friends. After Angloville I took some time to travel around and it was great getting advice from the kids and other native speakers on what I should do/see during my time here.

What would you improve about this program?
Personally, I think one downfall about Angloville is when they do not have enough staff for a programme they seem to then just hire anyone who is willing to apply. I don't think that this is fair for the children attending the programme as they are not getting the quality they deserve/ are paying for wit some of the native speakers.
The food at some venues is not that great, so ensure you fruit and/or snacks.
Also, Angloville should have a look at ways in which they could give native speakers a few more days in between programmes in order to get to their next destination. Normally, you arrive to the city on Saturday and have to get to you next destination before Sunday morning which can be very tiring if you decide to do programmes all over Poland.

A good experience

I had a great week with angloville. It's a great chance to meet people and help people to improve not just their english language but also their confidence.
It is a very intense week though with very long days and you dont realise how tired you can be just from talking!
I dont agree with having to pay such a high deposit or the fact we dont get it all back as we are after all volunteers, but that is just my opinion.
I had some great conversations and really learnt a lot from the people taking part in the programme.
Another thing is the programmes dont take place in the city itself, usually it's in the countryside which is great but do go expecting to see loads of a place, you only see the city if you do the tour or go to visit it before or after the programme.
I would do it again, I've made some great new friends and loved every minute of it.

What would you improve about this program?
The deposit is too much to pay. I understand you need it for security but that's too high and also we should receive the full amount back. The price that participants pay should cover all your costs, we are volunteers doing 10 hour days so we shouldn't have to pay anything. 10 euros may not be a lot to you but to a traveller with no income it is.
Also it is a lot to expect a volunteer to do such long days, there may be 10 minutes after each session but it's not enough.
There should be less paperwork save the environment

A life-changing experience

I was feeling a little flat having spent the last 13 years in higher education and fighting systems and changes on a daily basis. I've been intrigued by the concept of immersion education and this opened up the opportunity to see it in action. As an educator I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and even more so due to meeting like-minded individuals who were passionate about similar things to me. Not only that, but the students were incredibly interesting and the weekly field trips really pushed me out of my comfort zone ... I even went through a tiny cave and hiked up a mountain - it was thrilling! I made loads of new friends and networking connections that have changed my future for the better. I feel like I developed as an educator and as a human, and I will definitely be doing this again in future.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
You must be passionate about talking and being intrigued to know more about the people around you. You will do this a lot and if you are not ready it can be daunting.

Angloville Budapest and Prague

Angloville was an incredible opportunity to work with local Junior's in Hungary and the Czech Republic and further thier English whilst also gaining a greater understanding of thier backgrounds and culture. I thoroughly enjoyed my 2 camps, both the coordinators and the other mentors were extremely supportive and the camps were run successfully. The range of activities was good and ensured that the Juniors could practise English in a range of situations whilst also remaining interesting for the mentors. I felt that whilst the week was intensive, there was still a healthy amount of down-time which ensured that we were refreshed for the next day's activities. It was a real pleasure to mentor such nice and bright Juniors and I'd like to come back again next year.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
My advice would be to just go with the flow. It's an intensive week but it really is a case that you get out of it what you put in. Spending time with the participants during meal times and playing sport's with them in down-times is a great way to bond with them.

28.07-03.08.2019 BOBROWA DOLINA - Angloville Junior

I worked at the Bobrowa Dolina camp from the 28th July 2019 to the 3rd August 2019.

In my opinion Angloville is a great way to travel, meet new people and gain teaching experience. Throughout the week I spent at Angloville I progressively became more confident in teaching English through the one-to-one and one-to-two speaking sessions with Polish children. It was also good to see that the children's confidence in speaking English grew immensely throughout the week, and made the experience very rewarding for me personally.

The activity leader, Megan, also made the whole experience far more enjoyable by providing a mixture of activities throughout the week, from games to creative activities and cultural exchanges.

I would highly recommend Angloville to anyone looking to travel and who want to enter the teaching profession in the future.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
The speaking sessions can appear quite formidable at first as they are usually around 50 minutes long. It can be especially hard if the child you are paired with is not very confident or talkative. However, have a good sense of humour, start with simple questions and gradually increase the complexity as their confidence grows and the speaking sessions will fly by.

Angloville experience

My experience was unique as I had the opportunity to teach Polish children English. I loved camp as I learnt different methods that I could implement in my classroom come September so it was very beneficial for me!. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting new people from all over the world with similar interests and values. I thought that this experience gave me a new found love for the language, one that I hoped I entrusted in the children that I taught. I thought that the kids enjoyed the camp immensely too as they immersed themselves in the English language and learnt about different cultures of the volunteers also. I though that the venues we’re very suitable to camp as they we’re spacious and provided facilities that helped wth enjoyment at camp.

What would you improve about this program?
I would improve the communication between angloville and the volunteers before going to camp as there wasn’t enough information given before camp. I would also improve the use of materials that we had at camp as it was quite difficult sometime to teach with different ages and having limited resources.

A great opportunity

Angloville is a great opportunity to meet new people from all over the English speaking world and interact with some amazing juniors. I did two programmes out of Warsaw and we were met with friendly coordinators and a chance to talk to the juniors from the first moment we stepped on the bus. We also met loads of like minded adults with whom we shared evenings filled with swimming and games. I never felt alone or isolated as everyone is super friendly. The programme itself is full-on but not exhausting and the projects at the end are really rewarding! It’s amazing to see the creativity and curiosity of some of the young people you work with and they really enjoy speaking with the mentors about everything imaginable. Overall I would recommend this programme to anyone who wants to broaden their horizons and meet some inspiring new people.

Really good

I really enjoyed my week in Hungary, the other people were super lovely, the vibe was super relaxed, I liked how it was relatively small so it was really easy to get to know everyone. Also the co-ordinators were very nice and clearly enjoyed the job. I did a junior programme, I'd like to try a kids one in the future perhaps. The venue was really pretty and there was a nice pool we were free to use, the venue staff weren't that friendly but that was okay, they were at least very accommodating to my dietary needs. I would definitely do it again in the future. The only thing that would be better is if they helped subsidise some of your travel, it would be very expensive to go just for that, for me it was part of a larger trip round Europe so I really recommend doing it that way.

What would you improve about this program?
It would be great if they subsidised some of the travel, I think it would be too expensive to go just for that alone.

Questions & Answers

The two companies I have used for this so far are Angloville and VaughanTown. The enquirer needs to visit their websites and discover what the conditions are. There is availability throughout the year and quite often spaces available on trips at short notice that may not yet have been filled. Angloville has a Facebook page also. volunteers.grupovaughan.com/what-we-do/vaughan-town angloville.com
