Angloville

I had a very rewarding experience while volunteering with Angloville in Poland. I enjoyed getting to know the Polish speakers and had a lot of fun socializing and learning about the Polish culture and history. I recommend this experience!

Immersed in Polish and Czech Culture

Had a great 3 weeks with Angloville with a mixture of kids and junior programmes in Poland and Czech Republic. It was a great to be with so many nationalities and get immersed in Polish and Czech culture.

The kids and junior programmes were very different. The kids programme was very structured and fast pace. There was a range of different activities with scavenger hunts and arts and crafts. We were also given flash cards to help with the speaking sessions.

On the other hand, the junior programmes were a lot more relaxed. We were given question cards which suggested questions to create a conversation which some of the children liked and some disliked them. There were group sessions and games throughout the day to break it up. Very full on weeks but very fun.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
Strawberry pasta and gherkin soup were two things that were very different to English cuisine!

Amazing trip!

I recently completed my first Angloville programme and it exceeded expectations! The resort we stayed at was very beautiful, I formed great relationships with the children and really saw them grow in confidence throughout the week and overall had a great time. The week included games, one on one speaking sessions and just social time with the kids. It was also great as a mentor to meet peers that have travelled and I made some really good friends on the trip. There was little communication between the programme coordinators and mentors in the weeks leading up to the programme which could be improved but other than that I really enjoyed my trip. Everything was pretty well organised and I would recommend this programme to others who are looking to build their resume.

Angloville is worth it

Lots of documents and flights to book and takes forever and is quite difficult to get your refund back with lots of emails but the programme is worthwhile as it is very rewarding and educational both on the participants and volunteers side! You can spend time travelling in the cities and save money since lodging is paid for which is fantastic. However there definitely needs to be more information as the website doesn’t cover a lot however it is definitely a real and amazing programme where you can learn so much about the countries you visit and probably would have never visited otherwise and have the opportunity to meet so many people from different backgrounds and industries and even new friends who happen to live near you! I’ve already recommended to my sister who loves it.

Recommend

I just got back from 3 weeks volunteering in Poland and I was very sad to leave! I would highly recommend this programme. I met amazing people, from participants to other native speakers who I will stay in touch with. I got to see different areas of Poland, and stayed in really nice locations, basically for free aside from flights and a few nights in hostels.
However there are some things I would mention. It is very tiring, especially if you do 3 weeks back to back like I did. I feel like a solution to this would be if Angloville ended the programme after breakfast on the Saturday, so that you could have some time back in the city (Warsaw in my case) to do basic things like go to the shops, do laundry (none of the hotels I went to offered a laundry service) etc. Currently, the programmes finish after lunch so you don't get back to the city until 5-6pm and you have to catch the bus to the next venue as early as 7 the next morning.
However the couple hours free time that you get after lunch every day are good and kept everyone going.
Another thing I found was that the venues vary a LOT in terms of quality of food and accommodation. My first venue had amazing food but the second two weeks I quite often left meals feeling hungry! Some venues also have beautiful grounds but no facilities while others have a pool, a hot tub, volleyball/tennis courts, sports equipment, boats etc... They also often advertise a spa which you are not allowed to use!
These were minor issues that were totally worth it for the people that I met and the experience I've gained from doing this programme. It's not hard work, just lots of talking. :D

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Be prepared to think on your feet. Have little games ready for speaking sessions or a pack of cards - this saved me from many hours of awkward silence when I got a shy kid who didn't want to speak/do small talk. You have to like talking about yourself. You will repeat yourself a million times as you are meeting so many people in a short space of time. And get a good nights sleep, talking and playing games is a lot easier when you're not tired as hell :D Last but not least, bring snacks.

Chojnik Resort

The venue was beautiful and located in the mountains. The ride to the venue is comfortable. During the ride, you are able to interact with some of the participants. It is a great way to learn about the culture and the country. Many of the participants are professional leaders and are using this program to get more confidence in their speaking abilities. There is no judgement of the participants or of the volunteers. I would recommend this program as a very good way to interact with other people from all over the world. It is an opportunity to get to know a vast amount of people from all different types of backgrounds, cultures, ethnicities, etc. This program opens up a very wide door of adventures, as well as relationships that can continue for a lifetime.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
The one thing I would change, would be to make sure the venue locations had plenty of activities available for the participants as well as the volunteers.

A great experience

I volunteered fo 3 weeks with angloville on programs in Poland this summer. Despite being hard and long work I thoroughly enjoyed every second. The impact on the children is incredibly fulfilling and the other mentors are amazing and many of them have become friends for life.
In fact, I plan to visit many of them in this coming year.

1 issue I would raise with angloville is that sometimes the venues can be questionable. The food provided can be poor and utilities such as WiFi, cleaning and drying can be poor or non existent. However, this is essentially free to volunteers and so should be taken with a pinch of salt.

All I’m in all I am incredibly happy to have taken part in these programs and would heavily consider volunteering again.

I would recommend angloville to anyone interested in teaching or a unique summer experience.

What would you improve about this program?
The venues are not always the best. Many have poor WiFi, low quality and small amounts of food with average bedrooms. Equally it’s important to bare in mind that as a volunteer this is essentially free to you.

Great experience

Really awesome to meet new people, both participant's and native speakers. Had a blast. Left from Warsaw and had a really great group of people. Food was ok and venue was good. Good for experience teaching and if you like talking and being social. Venue was very rural so if you want to do sightseeing it doesn't really work. This is more for having fun and having conversations. Having food and accommodation paid for is a huge up. As a couple we got to have our own room which was very nice and the venue catered to dietary requirements well. However the food itself wasn't the best, but this is a free programme so can't have too many complaints. The kids and other leaders where the best part of this programme getting to know others and enjoy time together in a safe environment

Questions & Answers

The two companies I have used for this so far are Angloville and VaughanTown. The enquirer needs to visit their websites and discover what the conditions are. There is availability throughout the year and quite often spaces available on trips at short notice that may not yet have been filled. Angloville has a Facebook page also. volunteers.grupovaughan.com/what-we-do/vaughan-town angloville.com
