Last minute

I only joined this program as a last minute summer filler as a university student. I didn’t have high expectations, but this experience was far more than I could have imagined. Everyone is extremely friendly and nothing on the trip feels like work. The participants thoroughly enjoy the program which certainly contributes to your enjoyment and makes it extremely rewarding. I stayed at lipowy most just outside of Warsaw. The hotel was comfortable and had plenty of facilities, in the evenings all the leaders congregated and we enjoyed games and the swimming pool. I’ve made friendships and connections for life. Not only do you learn about the polish culture, but the with time spent talking to the other native speakers from all over the world, you learn about so many other cultures. Im already planning angloville into my summer of 2020.

What would you improve about this program?
I’d plan my trip further in advance to reduce the price of flights.

Great for meeting new people and staying in lovely locations

I really enjoyed my Angloville experience! It was a great way to meet new people, learn about the local culture and feel useful while travelling. It looks good on your CV and you earn a certificate to prove the number of volunteering hours. It was really rewarding to work with really passionate and enthusiastic young people. It was very good value for money. However, I would caution that it is a full days work and, on my program, involved travelling far from the start city, so there isn't much to do alongside the program. This wasn't a problem for me though, and it would be a nice way to break up travelling by staying in nice hotels in beautiful locations. I would definitely recommend the program! I thoroughly enjoyed it and would love to do it again.

What would you improve about this program?
Make it more obvious that certain programs involve travelling far away from the start city.

Enriching Experience

I had a wonderful experience at Angloville. I chose the Adult program based out of Krakow. All the participants were friendly and committed to the program. It was amazing to get the chance to meet native Polish speakers eager to improve their English. The schedule was very intense, so you should only enroll in the program if you have a lot of energy and can stay mentally focused for long periods of time. I enjoyed the free pre-program city tour, especially lunch at a local restaurant, which gave me a chance to get to know some of my fellow volunteers before the program officially started. The hotel was beautiful and modern, the food was very good, and the hotel swimming pool and hot tub were a treat! The surrounding mountains were breath-taking, and I appreciated being able to see a part of Poland that I wouldn't have traveled to on my own.

What would you improve about this program?
I don't think the program would suffer if there was slightly more free time added to the daily schedule. Participants could review material, socialize, or get some extra relaxation to be fresh for the next session. Additionally, there were a lot of one-on-one sessions. I think that the group sessions were a lot of fun, and I would recommend adding more group sessions.

beautiful venue

My 2nd Angloville experience was far superior to my 1st. Beautiful Krakow was a good starting point and then to be transported to the edge of the Tatra mountains at Bachladowka was a real bonus. the group were very committed to learn and end enjoy their experience. the coordinators for Angloville were very professional and kept the group together.
The volunteers appeared to be very much appreciated by the students, and the students anxious to improve their English.
The balance of "serious work" and "funtime" was perfect, and contrary to my first experience where "cliques" were formed and their was little cohesion between the 2 groups, this "lot" managed to bond together very quickly.
I would thoroughly recommend the programme to anyone prepared to give a week of their time in Europe.

Angloville Junior Programme, Resort Niegocin

This was the first time that I’ve travelled alone and it was safe to say I was anxious. Upon meeting my fellow native speakers on the walking tour my anxieties were eased and I knew it would be a priceless experience, particularly as a solo traveller.

Angloville is a very valuable experience for native speakers and participants alike. You really feel that you’re making a difference and I loved being able to help people. It is also good value for money.

I would say that communication and organisation need to be improved as I did not receive important emails and links until another volunteer sent them to me at the end of the program. In addition, I had real issues with the hotel that we stayed in as the rooms felt dirty, the staff were rude and the food was poor, as was the internet connection. Furthermore, three of the four coordinators had a poor attitude towards the native speaker volunteers. They would criticise us a lot without any praise and for the same things that we believed had been addressed. It really reduced morale of the volunteers.

I would say that this should not deter anyone from applying to go on an Angloville program as it is clear that these issues arose because of the specific conditions of my program. Angloville has really improved my confidence, I’ve made real friends from all over the globe and, while it is very intense, it was great fun. Overall, I would recommend Angloville.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
Travelling to and navigating the base city, in this case Warsaw, as it was the first time I travelled alone. My nerves were relieved once I met the other volunteers at the walking tour.

Angloville Kids and Junior

I had an amazing experience volunteering for angloville. The children i worked with wee very special and i will remember the experience forever. The city tour at the beginning of the tour is an amazing way to meet the other volunteers and strike up friendships. Although i was travelling on my own i very quickly felt as though i was part of a group. The kids i worked with in my first week were amazing. They were very funny and most importantly all so keen to practise their English. I had a real connection with my mentors and seeing their confidence improve over the weeks was a great feeling. The angloville staff were all so friendly and made me feel very welcome on the programme. There is a great social side to the programmes and volunteers really end up becoming very good friends in such a short amount of time. I would 100% recommend this to anyone! I will definitely be coming back for more.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
Making life long friends in just a week was very special.

Angloville

My excellent experience volunteering with this organisation has been second to none!!
The programme is well put together for participants and volunteers. The week is very intense but fun at the same time!! The wealth of experience gained from meeting so many characters and engaging with everyone within the programme has been invaluable.
I have now been to Prague and Budapest and they have both been amazing adventures. I travelled alone from England on both occasions, however when I arrived at the beautiful Hotel where they held the Programme I immediately connected with people. I now have many friends from around the globe.
This experience has helped my self confidence and broadened my skills.

I would encourage anyone with an interest in people and language to sign up for a programme.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
As I'd never travelled alone I was extremely nervous. I was also feeling nervous about meeting everyone, so the ice-breaker was the most nerve-wracking moment for me!! However my nerves left me as soon as we had all met.

Best experience

Just finished my Angloville experience in Prague/Tuchlovice yesterday. Very sad to have left as it was one of the best experiences of my life if not THE most. Met some amazing juniors with so much determination to learn but also appreciated their welcoming attitude towards native speakers including myself. It’s definitely an experience worth living. You get to see the beautiful country but you also develop as a person. It tests your abilities and enhances life skills. Meeting new people, creating new memories is the highlight and I would do more and more. Thank you Angloville and Prague. Go with an open and positive mind, patience and excitement to speak with new people and also enjoy the trip for yourself as an individual. Whoever is reading this and is hesitant to go you will be missing out if you don’t go!

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would have gone for longer than a week because it felt too short !!!

Questions & Answers

The two companies I have used for this so far are Angloville and VaughanTown. The enquirer needs to visit their websites and discover what the conditions are. There is availability throughout the year and quite often spaces available on trips at short notice that may not yet have been filled. Angloville has a Facebook page also. volunteers.grupovaughan.com/what-we-do/vaughan-town angloville.com
