IVHQ New Orleans

I volunteered for a month in community projects in New Orleans in Nov 2022. My goal was to visit a wonderful city, meet local people and make myself useful at the same time. These goals were achieved. The staff at IVHQ and the local staff were supportive and responsive, and the people at the venues (food bank, warehouse for homeless and environmental centre) were all friendly and kind.
The accommodation was outstanding and I am a mature person (not a student!) who has never stayed in a hostel.
I would strongly recommend this programme as it was varied and allowed me to see different parts of the city as well.

Pros
  • Accommodation
  • Local contacts
  • IVHQ website & staff
Cons
  • Travel to one venue was through an area which some locals told me was unsafe.

IVHQ volunteer in New Orleans

I volunteered in New Orleans through IVHQ for Recirculating farms (Environmental sustainability program).
This was truly an amazing and eye-opening experience for me, traveling abroad, alone, meeting new people, and feeling like making even a slight difference.
I worked daily at an urban farm, seeding, weeding, harvesting... The volunteers were all very welcoming and I learned a lot from this experience and all the people that I met with different backgrounds.
I highly recommend people apply.
The location and accommodation were also topnotch!
Thank you again to IVHQ for this amazing and inspiring opportunity.

Pros
  • Stay in the city of New Orleans
  • Great accomodation
  • Great hosts

San Diego experience

I had a wonderful experience in San Diego. I really enjoyed working with the homeless population and learning new things everyday. So far this has been one of the best experiences of my life. I hope I can volunteer again! The team was extremely supportive as well. This experience will change your life for the better. If you’re thinking of completing this program don’t think about it more. Just go for it and enjoy the adventure of being able to served the community and enjoying the amazing weather SD offers!

Community Development New Orleans

Awesome experience to work with the locals. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming.
This was an Eye opening experience to work with the citizens still recovering from the devastating effects of recent Hurricanes. Inspired my the locals positive attitude even though some lost their homes from the hurricane.
IVHQ contacts guided me in every step of my journey. My contacts were always a text away if I needed them for questions. The lines of communication with IVHQ were always open and with immediate response.
Always felt safe.

New Orleans Volunteering IVHQ

Despite the heat, I had an amazing time volunteering in New Orleans. My accommodation was great, my schedule was perfect, and I felt very supported throughout my trip. The work was very gratifying and it felt great to give back to the community. Everyone I worked with was super super kind and gracious, and I really enjoyed getting to know all the other volunteers at my work site. The food is INCREDIBLE, so that was definitely a huge plus. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a meaningful and fun volunteering experience!

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
I picked a fig from a tree and ate it right there!

Thank you IVHQ

IVHQ has opened me to many experiences I never thought I would get the chance to experience. When I planned my first trip to Africa, I was terrified, as I have never left my home country before. IVHQ helped me prepare and made me feel safe the entire time. Shortly after, I traveled to New Orleans with IVHQ. Of course, I plan on doing many more trips with IVHQ in the future. I am incredibly grateful for the chance to travel and help others through the IVHQ program. IVHQ is the most trusting and affordable way to travel. I plan to work, and travel with them for a very long time. Not only does IVHQ help you prepare as well as feel safe, they also supply you with everything you need on your trip. Food, housing, it’s all there. I am always happy with my accommodation and extremely excited to try the food provided in the IVHQ program. I would recommend IVHQ to anyone looking to volunteer, travel and simply experience life. I can’t wait to plan more IVHQ trips in the future and can’t thank IVHQ enough.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
I would recommend to all travelers who travel with IVHQ, to bring a journal. The amazing moments I got to experience with IVHQ gave me so much hope and excitement. I wanted to write those moments down to capture each bit of the experience.
