This internship has definitely enriched me professionally and personally, and being a part of this journey was an incredible experience that showed me just how capable and strong-welded I am. this is a concrete experience that I can take forward into my new role, so I appreciate every part of it.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?

Be well prepared with your bank card if you’re an international traveler, check the fees and also mind that if you opened a British bank account (like Revolut) it takes about a week to receive one transaction, at least in my case. If I’ve known earlier I’d have transferred the money weeks beforehand.

The Capital Placement team was very supportive and helpful around the clock. They kept an open line of communication and were very patient with every little question that I had. The program itself is an enriching opportunity with lots of room for growth and exploration. The team I worked with was full of people eager to help and guide me. It was a safe environment that fostered learning and growth both as a person and as an intern. They also offered to support with long-term employment and shared useful resources and connections with me. This internship will definitely be significant to my future career.

London Internship Program:
I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to intern in London for two months. I am gaining international work experience and developing my communication and interpersonal skills. This internship is helping me step out of my comfort zone and giving me a chance to develop new skills and ado my experience. Moving abroad is challenging and can make you feel lonely but with the help of Capital Placement, I never felt this way.
Accommodation is great and safe.
Transportation is easy and safe.

The best part of the program was the experience for me. I am really enjoying my time in the company, everyone are super nice and always happy to help. In general, I feel that I gained a lot of experience in this program. The only one comment I want to talk about is the housing, I feel it would be away better to be in a place that have kitchen in it. Having the option to cook meals would make a huge difference. To be honest I did not find the food is good in the hotel, if I would come again to London I would choose another place. They don't use a proper food in breakfast.

Although I was hesitant before the internship started, I am very glad I went through with it, as I would've regretted not going. The sole purpose of internships is to be able to build connections, learn about the work environment, expand my existing skills, and learn new ones. What better place to gain all of that than abroad, somewhere outside of one's comfort zone? For me, this opportunity benefited me not only professionally but also personally. The exciting part is having Capital Placement give me the tools and means to explore the city while interning. Though my experience might not match with future applicants since we’re sponsored by Misk, but CP team has been working so much and offering their help in every and all ways that they can!

Having spent an entire summer dedicated to traveling abroad, Julia now focuses on helping other students experience life outside their home country. As a native Texan now working in London, Julia enjoys sharing advice on interning abroad, sipping tea (with 2 sugars, 1 milk please) and reading in her spare time.

What is your favorite travel memory?

It has to be when I went to Rome. I'm a big history person and I love carbs, so Rome was my place! I got to explore the Colosseum, the Pantheon, the Roman Forum, the Trevi fountain and literally all the piazzas and went to Vatican city. Also, I got to eat my heart out in pasta, pizza, and gelato. It was a surreal experience to see and experience such historical things for myself. I think about Rome a lot still and I have plans to return.

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

I have become more confident in my ability to do great work and pitch forward any ideas that I think would help us better improve. Additionally, I've become more responsible, timely, professional, and just learn to accept failure when it happens and move forward. Also, I learned to not shy away from hearing what I needed to improve on and use that information to really grow within my field. All things that I feel helped me grow from being a shy and timid graduate to someone open to improving herself and being confident along the way.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

One of our interns got the opportunity to fly out and represent her host company in Milan, all expenses paid. While she was there, she met other professionals in the fashion industry like her and they connected and it turns out they had an office in her city back in the US. She then was able to use that network connection to secure some designs for her final year project.

Not only did she get to fly to out to Milan, but she also met important people in her field who helped her later on both in her career and while she was studying at University. Talk about connections!!

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

I would do our 6-month graduate internship in London. I really like this program because it is a sustainable internship with it being a paid internship. It also fully immerses you into the London work culture and lifestyle. You truly get a full understanding of what it means to be a part of the company and are treated as a full-time staff member as well.

I think the length of it, the fact that it’s paid and that you are doing the same work as graduates are doing really gives you an advantage over your peers and a great internship experience.

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

What I love about my company is that it focuses on sustainable internship experiences and a one-to-one experience for our interns. It is not a secret that studying or interning abroad is very pricey, and because of that, it often limits people from it. Capital Placement is working on getting paid internships for our interns participating in our graduates' programs for 6-months. This allows our interns to get work experience, make some money and survive in some of the world's most expensive cities.

By focusing on sustainable internships, we can open the doors and opportunities for so many inspiring students and graduates who may not have had the chance. I'm was especially proud of our team when we decide to introduce a scholarship to further help students intern abroad. It was great to be a part of a team that wanted to help others.

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

I think the biggest factor is, to be honest. This factor will determine the type of company you are and the environment you create for yourself and your employees. Additionally, it will also help a company because their customers know they are honest and will, in turn, allow customers to comfortably trust and respect your mission. In the end, being honest will help a company stay successful in the long-term.
