Diversity & Inclusion 💙

CEA CAPA provides, in conjunction with Diversity Abroad, Destination Guides which provide resources and tips for Black/African-American students, Latinx students, Asian American students, and all other students of color.
Through our personalized advising, CEA CAPA takes steps to understand the needs of a diversity of student identities like the LGBTQIA+ community. In addition to diversity and identity training, CEA CAPA leadership engage in continuous department level project work to identify and revise policies and practices using the appropriate Justice, Equity, Diversity or Inclusion lens as a frame to reduce bias and barriers that impact students, faculty, and staff. CEA CAPA is intentional in elevating diverse student voices and providing a platform for a broad array of identities to share their experiences abroad. The CEA CAPA World Blog promotes stories and personal experiences from the perspectives of diverse student bloggers and vloggers.
CEA CAPA is willing and able to assist students with learning disabilities and physical disabilities. Students are requested to disclose disabilities through the application health forms as part of their application and in discussion with their application advisor or program manager. The earlier CEA CAPA is made aware of learning or physical disabilities the better we can work with the student, institution, and overseas team to tailor an Individualized Education Program if necessary to support the student.

Impact 🌎

CEA CAPA makes a conscious effort to create study abroad experiences that leave a positive impact on host communities. Each location implements a variety of strategies to support the local community and promote sustainability. Examples include:

Use of recycling bins in Study Center locations and in CEA CAPA housing

Signage in CEA CAPA housing urging students to limit water and electricity usage

Students are often given reusable bags and water bottles upon arrival to limit single plastic use

Students are provided with instructions for acquiring transportation passes to promote use of public transportation rather than taxis

A Transformative Semester in Paris

My semester with CEA CAPA in Paris was truly one of the most transformative experiences of my life. As a fashion student, studying in one of the world’s fashion capitals was incredibly inspiring. What made this experience unique was how immersive it felt — Paris itself became part of the classroom. My favorite course was Visual Merchandising and Trend Forecasting. We didn’t just study theory; we visited stores throughout the city and analyzed branding, layout, displays, and product storytelling in real time. Being able to observe global luxury houses and independent boutiques in their home environment completely changed the way I understand fashion and retail strategy. Outside of academics, I made an intentional effort to engage with the local community. I joined a hot Pilates studio to maintain some consistency in my routine and meet people outside of my program. I explored different neighborhoods, tried new cafés and markets, and learned to navigate the city independently. Living in Paris pushed me to grow — personally, academically, and professionally. CEA CAPA provided strong support while still encouraging independence. I always felt like I had resources available, but I also had the freedom to fully immerse myself in the city. Paris challenged me in the best way and helped shape the way I see the world and my future career. It is an amazing city with so many things to do and so many incredible people to meet!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Step out of your comfort zone and try new things — even if you have to do them alone. That is how you truly immerse yourself. Some of the most meaningful moments happen when you push yourself to explore, adapt, and experience the culture beyond what feels familiar. Growth comes from saying yes to new opportunities and allowing yourself to fully engage with your surroundings.
Pros
  • Immersive academic experiences tied directly to the city
  • Strong student support while still encouraging independence
  • Access to one of the world’s fashion capitals and cultural hubs
Cons
  • The adjustment period can feel overwhelming at first
  • Cost of living in Paris requires budgeting and planning
  • Time flies — one semester feels too short

CEA CAPA Internship in Paris

I was placed at the Financial Times in Paris, and thanks to CEA CAPA, I gained an extensive amount of knowledge working on projects I am passionate about and grateful for. I learned so much over the two months, and I feel so incredibly lucky to have gotten to spend my Fall at this company. I felt supported as a student but also extremely independent, getting to truly make this experience my own. I have gained such a special experience that I will take with me forever on my career journey and beyond.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
My advice would be to make this program your own as much as possible. Find your corners of the city and truly immerse yourself in every opportunity you can.
Pros
  • Big city
  • Famous places
  • Free museums
Cons

Loved my experience!

CEA CAPA put together a stellar study abroad experience for me. My homestay family was extremely nice, and I loved our triweekly dinners together. Conversing with them in French was truly a joy. The coursework was also great! I got a lot of context for all of the current French political drama in my history course, and my Impressionism course inspired a new passion for the plastic arts that I hadn't had previously. Paris was the perfect place to see world-class art! Also, I met my girlfriend on this trip, lol!

Do the internship!!!!!!!!

When planning to go abroad, I was choosing between doing an internship and studying. CEA luckily had a program that allowed me to do both. I felt like I was able to truly live abroad and become accustomed to the culture because of my unique experience with the workplace. I felt like I was making a real international change because the nature of my internship was legal aid. These internships are so hard to find on your own, and CEA works especially hard to match you with one that aligns with your unique interests. It was an amazing experience and something I will never get over! Do the internship!
