Global Team Internship

This summer, I had the incredible opportunity to participate in a Global Team Internship in Bali, Indonesia. Through a partnership between local businesses and Think Pacific, I was able to provide comprehensive consultancy services tailored to address each business's specific needs.

During my time in Bali, Think Pacific encouraged me to fully immerse myself in Balinese culture, allowing me to embrace the island's traditions and way of life while exploring its stunning landscapes with new friends. This cultural immersion was an integral part of my experience, enriching my understanding and appreciation of the local community.

One of the most valuable life skills I gained from this experience was adopting a 'just go for it' mindset. This approach has empowered me to pursue my goals with greater determination. The project instilled in me a resilience and confidence that I will carry into all aspects of my life.
My favourite part of the internship was undoubtedly working with the incredible partners of Think Pacific. The collaborative projects we engaged in were both challenging and rewarding, set against the beautiful backdrop of Bali. The blend of professional growth and the island's natural beauty made for an unforgettable experience.

For students considering a project with Think Pacific, my top tip is simple: do it! Think Pacific delivers projects in both Fiji and Bali, each carefully designed to promote community development and cultural immersion. As a BSc Education student, the Global Team Internship was closely aligned with my future career prospects. My biggest advice is to find a project that excites you and just go for it. The experiences you will gain, the people you will meet, and the personal growth you will achieve are invaluable. Embrace the adventure and make the most of every opportunity – it’s a decision you won’t regret.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
On my arrival in Bali, I knew no one. Waiting for others to get through security, in a place that I had never been to was the most nerve-racking… but in minutes I was chatting happily with both Think Pacific team members and participants.
Pros
  • The friends
  • Cultural Experience
Cons
  • Restrictions on travel during the week

My experience in Bali during the global team internship

During my global team internship in Bali, I had the incredible opportunity to work with people from diverse backgrounds, which broadened my perspective and enhanced my ability to collaborate across cultures. Presenting to local businesses helped me sharpen my communication skills, adapting my message for different audiences. The experience not only allowed me to build strong professional connections with fellow candidates but also fostered valuable relationships with businesses. This blend of cultural exchange, hands-on presentations, and networking made the internship an enriching and rewarding experience.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
My advice to future attendees of Think Pacific's program, is to be confident and enjoy yourself. The team involved are extremely welcoming, and everyone you meet during your time will be long lasting connections. The placement goes by very fast so enjoy every moment, and make the most of it.

My Summer With TP

I spent 5 weeks in Bali with Think Pacific this summer and I couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend it!
Immersing myself in another culture was something completely new for me. With the support of leaders from TP, I got to work and collaborate with local businesses, entrepreneurs, and of course other students from all over the world.
I would recommend this experience to anyone looking to broaden their horizons and learn something new about themselves and a new part of the world. I will never forget my summer :)

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
Deep fried banana! And it was delicious!
Pros
  • Making friends
  • Independence
  • Learning a new culture and way of life

An Amazing Opportunity

I enjoyed my time on placement with Think Pacific. There was some kinks that still need worked out, however I attended during their first year operating in Indonesia. The local staff were very supportive and insightful when teaching us about their culture. All the homestay families were incredible, really integrating all of us (even if we weren't living with them) into their daily lives as if we were family. The placement aspect was also good, however it is not a clinical setting. You are helping mental health in other ways, so this is something to keep in mind when applying. It is a great opportunity to become more aware of mental health practices across cultures and widen your own understanding of the world.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
On one of the free weekends a group of us travelled to Kintimani. Here we took a jeep up a volcano and watched sunrise and then explored more of the local area in the jeep. We also got to see different ways the same religion handle funerals and death while in this area, due to a unique village which does not follow the traditional Balinese Hindu funeral tradition.
Pros
  • Expanding practical psychology knowledge while travelling
  • There is a balance between work and play
  • Expeirence working with a wide verity of ages and disabilities
Cons
  • There is a curfew in place the whole placement
  • There is a strict dress code whilst in the village and on placement
  • You do not choose which centers you visit
