It was such a once in a lifetime experience because of the people you meet and share it with. I think what made my internship worth while was the people I was placed with. I have made real friendships with the people I was with. The actual internship was a strange experience as my boss wasn’t entirely helpful while I was there. She sort of just left me to my own devices most days. But as i was the first intern to be placed with her, i can’t blame the intern group for that. Honestly if it was a little cheaper I would definitely do it again.

In the beginning, it was challenging to get used to my different customs, especially in the working environment and relationships with colleagues, which put me outside my comfort zone. However, this experience changed my life, helping me overcome my insecurities and gain confidence. It gave me the chance to have a clear idea of who I want to be in the future and understand which will be the next step to achieving success. I would suggest anyone looking for motivation and change apply for an interview with the provider and be open to what the experience brings to you.

I had an absolutely wonderful experience in Dublin with the Intern Group and I highly recommend it for anyone looking to gain working experience in a new and exciting country/city. I spent three months in Dublin this fall after graduating university in the spring, and it was definitely the right decision. I was matched with a great company that gave me a lot of responsibilities and tasks, which kept work exciting each day, and made invaluable connections. Dublin was also an amazing city and I met some great people through the intern group, which provided me with a small social circle from the very start that I spent a lot of time with exploring the city and the rest of the country. Overall it was a great experience!

Doing an internship in Dublin was a once in a lifetime experience that I was so lucky to be able to do. Rachel and Lauren were a huge help in making it such a positive experience and I am so thankful for their guidance and support. I am so glad that I pushed myself out of my comfort zone by coming to Ireland because I met people I never would have and formed relationships that will last a lifetime; and was able to completely immerse myself in a different culture, which is a very valuable experience. I believe this program is ideal for people who are looking to build their resumes and travel post-grad.

I had a great time on my Dublin program! I decided to do a three month internship the fall after I graduated college, since I didn’t get to study abroad during school. Rachel and Lauren, my program coordinators, made the transition seamless and organized a lot of fun events for us interns that helped us bond. I made some amazing friends through this experience and I loved the city as well! Dublin has a lot of history, great museums, a fun pub scene, some amazing food, and a lot of cool little towns just a short train ride away. There is so much to see and do there!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?

Definitely be open to taking adventures on your own, but also try and bond with other interns on your program! Everyone has a similar goal in participating in a program like this, so it’s more than likely you’ll find someone who wants to travel to the same places as you or do some of the same activities. Don’t be shy about jumping right into activities with new people.

Some workplaces can be quite a long commute (1 hour or so) from the accommodation
The bus system can be unreliable

I graduated a year ago and I wasn’t sure what I wanted to study at university so I decided to take a gap year and do an internship in Dublin with The Intern Group
I didn’t know what to expect at first but the whole experience was everything I was hoping and more!
My programe coordinator Rachel was in contact with me before my arrival and was so helpful during all the process. When I arrived she made sure to make me feel welcome and to introduce me to everyone.
The program was amazing, I got to work with awesome people and the trips and activities that they planned for us were spectacular. I fell in love with Dublin and I’m sure everyone visiting will too!

I did my internship in Dublin in summer 2022 and it was such a rewarding and memorable experience. The people I met, whether that be other interns, locals, and the InternGroup stand were amazing and extremely welcoming. In the 8 weeks I spent in Dublin I was able to make friends from all over the world, have new experiences, and grow professionally and personally. My internship has helped me professionally, as potential managers are always intrigued about my internship and it helps me stand out compared to other candidates.

Not only did this program place me in a great placement for my internship, the program got to introduce you to the culture and people of the area you are in. I loved how they arranged meet-ups/ gatherings. Everyone was so helpful and the person on the ground at the area that you are in goes over and beyond for you. The housing was great, and close to shops. If there was an issue they were on it right away to have it fixed. I recommend this program to anyone and everyone. Such a great experience.

Due to the competitive nature of finding an internship placement abroad in your field and due to some visa restrictions, we can't guarantee that the internships will be paid. This is mainly decided upon by the host organization and the local laws. Why did you choose this program?

Many places in my country require at least some experience (even if listed asking for 0-1 years, in which they'll choose someone who has the 1 year or few month experience), so I was looking for something more unique to help me stand out. I've always loved Dublin and had only been ever to visit once and only for a day, so I was really ecstatic when I saw that I could go back.

What did your program provide assist you with, and what did you have to organize on your own?

The program assisted me with living, the taxi to and from the airport at the beginning and end of my tenure, and scheduled outings for myself and other interns to attend. They were also available for questions, concerns and help, both before and after arriving to make sure everything was going smoothly. The only thing I had to really do by myself was book my flights, but they even provided a website to help me get the best deals.

What is one piece of advice you'd give to someone going on your program?

Make the most of your free time. It's going to be a rocky start. as you adjust to your new surroundings and will run into snags, but once you get everything under control, make the most of your free time. Go to the outings, take trips with friends, explore the city. There's so many things to see and you'll be so much happier trying new things and pushing yourself out of your comfort zone.

What does an average day/week look like as a participant of this program?

If it's on a weekday, the average day is going to work by about 9 am, coming home and either relaxing with your housemates or heading out with the group for some fun. Since all the internships are radically different depending on your area of interest and specific employer, it's hard to pin down exactly what you'll be doing every day. There are always tons of different outings, but nothing everyday, so you'll have some time to relax and stay in as well.

Going into your experience abroad, what was your biggest fear, and how did you overcome it? How did your views on the issue change?

My biggest fear was how I'd manage the first time on my own (my first time abroad by myself and my first time living on my own - and in a different country no less!). It's important (especially for the first week) to take things one day at a time. It was a huge struggle finding my way home the first night since my data plan hadn't kicked in, but that wasn't going to be the same story for the rest of the trip.

As the days kept going, you learned to look for certain things and, by the end of the week, I could walk to the city centre and back with no help. As for living, it was just trial and error. When you go shopping, look at the expiration dates and see how much you actually eat/drink throughout the week. There's no issue having to make a second trip for more food, and after that first week, you'll be able to avoid buying too much like I did.

What would have I done different?

I would have gone out more sooner than I did. I chose a shorter tenure, but if I had saved up more and heard about it earlier, I would've stayed longer, and I would have explored more sooner than I did.

I'm fairly shy and felt like I had to wait for someone to invite me to do certain things, or I wouldn't have fun. Go out on your own. You don't need to do everything with the group, and you'll have less differing opinions when you're doing something because the only opinion you need to satisfy is yourself. There's so many things in Dublin, and by the time I started doing stuff like that on my own, it felt like I was running out of time.

You can never have too many good memories, so take a deep breath, pull out your map on your phone, and explore!

What is your favorite travel memory?

One unforgettable memory from my Europe trip was visiting Prague's Alchemy Museum. In those dimly lit underground rooms, I saw real 17th-century potions and elixirs. A local guide shared fascinating stories of forbidden experiments and hidden mysteries, sparking lively chats with fellow travelers from different countries, all mesmerized by this living piece of history. It was simply incredible! A true immersion into the magical, enigmatic world of medieval alchemy that made me reflect on how the past still inspires our curiosity today. Of course, I couldn't resist buying some elixirs of long life as a special souvenir for my parents, who loved the story behind them!

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

Since joining The Intern Group, I've really grown into this people-first focus, thanks to the amazing teamwork! Everyone's so passionate about helping people tap into their full potential, from the candidates we guide to our own colleagues. It's sharpened my coaching in a fun way, turning their doubts into global adventures. I've found real purpose here watching those transformations happen every day.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

There are many amazing stories, so it is very hard to pick one. We hear stories of people who moved with a job offer to the country they were interning, people who achieved incredible opportunities through networking with our alumni community just a couple of months after interning, and also stories of people who met their best friends or significant other because of this opportunity.

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

I would love to join our Tokyo program! There are so many amazing places to explore and such a unique culture to experience! I also love japanese food, so being able to try the traditional cuisine would be incredible for me! Besides that, working in Japan would teach me more about subtle communication styles.
