Finished HSK1 with Yanqin Laoshi

Thave just finished HSK1 with Yanqin Laoshi who is really great and cooperative. The way she teaches and delivers the information is absolutely amazing. Through Chapters 1 to 15, she was very informative and took really good care of the way of teaching, doing homework, and even practicing the review. Highly recommended

I've been living in China for 1 year so far at the beginning I started to learn mandarin by my own and despite I do some progress I still have a lot of issues with the grammar. But with Silk Mandarin I really feel that my language skill have been improving a lot.

Before, was hard for me to build sentences despite I knew the vocabulary but now I can finally express myself and make more longer sentences.

Even if you are not located in Shanghai as I am I still recommend this course. But, I hope one day they can open more offices in others cities.

Setting Up Students for Success from Day 1

I wanted to re-learn Chinese after studying a bit years ago in high-school. Before Silk Mandarin I did self study with apps and text books. After 2 years, I had made good progress but felt like I needed more instruction as I entered the intermediate level. I'd been a fan of Silk Mandarin's social media for a while and decided to attend their adult summer camp program in Shanghai.

While I was there I reviewed my past studies to sort out any errors I had picked up during self study. This is a common problem with self study because you might not even realize that you misunderstand a concept. I also got to know Silk Mandarin's amazing staff and had so many memorable experiences. The challenge of navigating daily life in China also encouraged me to keep learning and improve faster.

After an amazing on campus experience I knew continuing with Silk Mandarin's Blended Learning Course was the right choice. It offered videos and digital content to further explain the textbook content, and time with a teacher. All of these features are important because they make learning Mandarin easier and more engaging.

The Blended Learning Course leverages Silk Mandarin's Slow Motion Technique, a technique that is simple but makes all grammar easier to learn. When paired with teachers who are knowledgeable and highly engaged with students, you feel like you are set up for success.

In just 30 hours my teacher guided me through HSK 3 with individualized lessons. Not only did we cover an entire level in what would have taken me 6 months alone. Since I don't get the opportunity to speak Mandarin in daily life, class time and teacher feedback is essential. My teacher also ensures that I get extra practice where I need it the most and relates the lessons to real life usage of the language points. I could spend years with apps or text books and still not grasp the nuances and real conversational uses of Mandarin.

After trying a wide variety of Mandarin language learning approaches, I can confidently say that Silk Mandarin's blended learning curriculum uniquely supports language learners of all ages and backgrounds. I always thought it would be nice to be able to speak a second language, but with the blended learning course my aspiration can be a reality.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
Being an adult student is difficult because some days you are so tired from work. My teacher helps me engaged with coursework and also adjusts pace when needed.
Pros
  • Effective teaching techniques
  • Individualized lessons
  • Affordable pricing
Cons
  • Occasional platform issues (rare)

Would highly recommend this learning service to anyone looking to learn Chinese!

Flexible time and patient teachers!

The online classes are flexible and the 老师’s are very professional. They are patient and easy to get along with. They first determine your language level and guide you to get to the next level. They cater to the specific needs of the students and have practical expectations. I highly rate them for students who have been stuck at a certain level in language learning. The teachers are very patient at as well and very informative in teaching. The classes are quite expensive but there are payment schemes that can suit everyone.

Pros
  • flexible time
  • Patient teachers
  • Professional

Does what nothing else could

I had wanted to learn Mandarin for many years. I had married a Chinese girl in law school and stayed married for 14 years, visited Shanghai, met my inlaws, moved to China, had a Chinese wedding party, got a job as a professor, and lived here for almost five years, and I knew absolutely no Mandarin beyond Xie xie and Wo ai ni. Mandarin was completely hopeless to me. I had done Rosetta Stone, Hanbook, and anything else anyone could offer me. It was like whatever I would learn would leak out of my ears as soon as I learned it.

This year, I decided to fix it, and I knew that I needed a classroom, because I had successfully learned French, but it took a classroom to learn it. So I browsed around and Silk Mandarin was at the top of the internet search. I came in, and Coco and I negotiated and haggled over the course of a few days for a deal that would get me the education I needed.

Since then, in just a few months, my Mandarin has improved considerably. I'm a long way from being able to debate philosophy in Mandarin, but with a little imagination here and a bit of persistence there, I now find that I'm beginnning to navigate Chinese life. The education has already been indispensable, and just today paid for itself.

Coco was completely confident and completely right when she said that if I had gone to any other school, I only would have come back to Silk Mandarin, because their teaching method works, and I've tried enough other systems to know that nothing else does. If you live in China, or if you need to learn Chinese, and it seems impossible to you, then Silk Mandarin is the beginning of the path up the mountain. It's worth the time and money.

Joining Silk Mandarin

Before joining Silk Mandarin, I was really struggling with motivation and structure in my Chinese learning. It was hard to access the right materials, and speaking felt overwhelming—especially because I couldn’t fully understand the grammar rules with previous teachers.

Since joining Silk Mandarin, everything has changed. The platform is super easy to use and accessible anytime, which is a huge plus for someone like me with a busy schedule. Their flexibility with timing has also been incredibly helpful.

What’s made the biggest difference is the Slow Motion Technique—it breaks down grammar in a way that finally makes sense and sticks in my memory. Now, even though I’m still at the beginning of my journey, I already feel much more comfortable speaking Chinese. Silk Mandarin made learning fun and effective, and I’m excited to keep going!

Before Joining Silk Mandarin

Before I joined Silk Mandarin, I had spent a lot of time studying Mandarin on my own. While I managed to pick up vocabulary and some basic grammar, there were always parts of the language that felt confusing or incomplete, and I struggled to apply what I’d learned in conversation. I knew I needed a more guided and immersive approach to really make progress.

Silk Mandarin provided exactly that. Their teaching methods helped fill in the gaps and complete my understanding of the language. My teacher, Yanqin, was fantastic — incredibly patient and skilled at explaining difficult concepts in a way that made them click. Thanks to her and the school’s supportive learning environment, I now feel much more confident and capable in my Mandarin journey.
