Great Experience in Antigua

Had a great time taking Spanish classes at Maximo in Antigua, Guatemala. Classes with Sandra were fun and I improved quickly. She was patient and very flexible to what I wanted to get out of the class and experience. Outside of class, Antigua is a wonderful place to visit or stay long term!

The facilities here at Maximo - Guatemala are top of the line and with my registration for classes included many perks such as the curriculmn, tutoring, tandem conversation opportunities, free salsa lessons, and beautiful views of the volcanos.

Spanish classes at Maximo in June

Staff are friendly and helpful. Teacher and materials excellent. Homestay with excellent cook who made our breakfasts and dinners. The other housemates spoke English which meant little practice at home but you work hard in class. So, a rest is more than welcome! Few complaints: very cold showers and sometimes electricity cuts off. Much rain during June. Be ready to get wet. The scenery is gorgeous. Best part of the trip: you meet people from all over the world and your Spanish will greatly improve. Thanks, Maximo!

Great teacher, great staff, great fun!

I started studying at Maximo Nivel initially for a few weeks when I was travelling in Latin America and I enjoyed it so much that I changed my itinerary so I could return to study for longer. My teachers have all been excellent, plus the school has many supporting activities such as a language exchange programme with local students and an onsite tutor to help with homework or general queries outside of your lesson. They also can help with housing, sightseeing and provide various fun social activities such as dancing and cooking classes. A huge plus are the office staff all of whom are really friendly and helpful. Nancy in the office is an absolute superstar and can help you out with anything at anytime. I highly recommend studying at Maximo if you are in Antigua.

What would you improve about this program?
Personally I would have liked more recommendations for audio resources but otherwise everything was really good.

Spanish Immersion in Antigua

As someone with very little international experience, and zero study abroad experience, I really had no idea what to expect when I signed up with Maximo. I probably learned more Spanish in 3 weeks at Maximo than my 4 semesters at University. The teachers are all natives of the area and rarely speak english. The weekly salsa lessons were also a definite plus. Also really easy to meet friends here with all of the activities going on!

What would you improve about this program?
More vocabulary less grammar!

Fantastico!!

I am an ongoing student at Maximo Nivel Antigua. I work in the US so I go when I can and pick up where I left off. I have progressed one level and I am so excited about that. The school is nothing short of amazing. The curriculum is very thorough, the teachers are experienced and top notch, the support staff both on site and at the central location in Costa Rica are supportive and expeditious. They could not make the experience easier or more welcoming for a beginning student. Maximo Nivel is in a word...superior...superior staff, superior professors, superior program. I've enjoyed every second, learned so much and most importantly have met so many new friends. I would encourage anyone to have the amazing experience of learning language and there is no better place than Maximo Nivel Antigua.

What would you improve about this program?
Honestly...it is the best around!!

Spanish Lessons

I took a week of one on one beginner Spanish lessons for one hour a day and I found it extremely helpful! I was a bit nervous at first since I knew almost nothing, but that quickly subsided since my instructor was super patient, funny and kept the class at a pace that was perfect for me. I could tell that she had a lot of experience teaching by the way incorporated simple evaluation tools at the beginning of the class. The classes has a really great flow and important topics were taught right at the start.

Overall, it was a great experience and I would highly recommend these classes to anyone who is looking to take Spanish lessons. I left with a way better understanding of the foundations of the Spanish language.

Antigua

This was a great experience! I didn't know anyone at first, but I met so many great people at Máximo Nivel. I took classes in the mornings, and really enjoyed the textbook and the classtime, the class was small and relaxed. The family I lived with was fantastic and I practiced what I learned in class with them. The soccer stadium is within walking distance. The staff is amazing, they are willing to help and easily accessible. The school is in a beautiful building with a nice garden in the middle. I love the time that I spent here and wouldn't change anything.

Antigua Spanish Experience

I had amazing Spanish teachers during my 22 weeks of classes in Antigua. Every teacher was willing to help me and answer my questions. I gained so much knowledge as well as increasing my confidence speaking Spanish:) I highly reccomend taking classes through Maximo and getting the entire Antigua experience. I learned so much and I am extremely thankful that I took my classes with Maximo! I had about 5 different teachers during my time in Guatemala and each teacher had a different teaching style which kept me interested and excited to go to class everyday. I also really enjoyed being able to get to know the teachers that I had for longer periods of time. I definitely felt like my teachers really cared about me learning Spanish and making sure that I understood each concept fully:)

What would you improve about this program?
Sometimes the process of changing teachers can be a tad bit hectic.

Questions & Answers

Hello! It depends on which country you are interested in but generally speaking we recommend $50-$70 per week for spending money on daily lunches, snacks, and transportation. If you are interested in buying souvenirs or doing tours, we recommend more than this ($100-$200 per week depending on the tours you are interested in).

Yes, it’s certainly worth it. You could opt for a program where you have classical (approx. 4 students per class) lessons in the morning (9AM-1PM) and return in the afternoon for individual classes (2PM-4PM), which would still leave you plenty of time to explore the town and its surroundings in the evenings and weekends. I did a 6-week stay in the summer of 2015 with only the classical lessons in...

My class size varied a bit during the six weeks I took Spanish lessons there (June/July 2015), but it was either 3 or 4 people including myself. The school itself is split up in two different buildings which are very close to each other (about 100m apart) and contain roughly 20 classrooms in total. One building has a nice garden, while the other one has a pleasant roof terrace. The atmosphere is...
