Learning Español with Màximo!

The classes are dynamic, and suit all styles of learning. You can study 1-on-1 or in a group, and every lesson is brilliantly catered to each individual`s needs. The teacher`s clearly care about the goals of the learner, and they are happy to take the time to help you through specific problems, even if it`s not exactly what the focus of the lesson is. The books are easy to follow, and there are plenty of worksheets to keep you going.

Spanish Language

My experience studying Spanish at Maximo Nivel in Antigua, Guatemala has been excellent!! Without using any English in the classroom, my teacher is very easy to understand, and class is always so much fun! She makes sure we get lots of conversation practice, rather than just flying through the book material. We are able to take classes in small groups, so we have plenty of opportunities to practice speaking. I highly recommend Maximo for anyone who wants one-on-one experience learning Spanish.

Perfect Vacation!!!

My wife and I were looking for something new and exciting to do. We had done Disney World, Cruises, etc. but those could not compare to the value, learning, culture and experience of La Antigua and Maximo Nivel.

We both had been practicising our Spanish from secondary school at a University in our country but going to Guatemala provided such a significant boost in our confidence to interact in Spanish.

Also, the way the program is designed at Maximo Nivel, we had a host family who really took interest in ensuring that we were comfortable and helped us plan things to do when we were not at classes. Plus, we got to practise Spanish at dinner and breakfast.

If possible, we would like to return and continue classes and do some more interesting things in Antigua.

I am convinced, immersion is the best way to learn.

Amazing Staff!

The Staff at Maximo Nivel were so incredibly helpful! I took private Spanish lessons because I wanted to tailor them to the medical field. My teachers were more than willing to cater to my needs, and did a lot of research and prep to make sure they were giving me the correct information. The classes were super affordable, and really effective. I came to Guatemala barely able to order food and left after 6 weeks able to have full conversations. I could not recommend the lessons more!

A Life-Changing Experience

Maximo Nivel's programs are an outstanding way to experience this amazing country. My homestay host was welcoming, helpful and fun to be around, and we keep in touch to this day. The Spanish instruction is also top-notch. Over the course of six weeks I became very close with my instructor and now consider her a life-long friend. Not only did I dramatically improve my Spanish language skills, I learned way more about Guatemala's history, culture and current issues than I ever would have on my own. I highly recommend this program.

A fantastic learning experience.

Having been to both Maximo Nivel Peru and Maximo Nivel Guatemala, I can attest that everything about these facilities and the way they run is top notch. In Antigua, as soon as you walk into the office, you are greeted with a lovely staff who really actually want to help you with whatever you need. Nancy and Andrea in particular helped me tremendously when I lost my debit card and needed to get a new one shipped to me from the U.S. I don’t have experience with Spanish classes in Cusco, but in Antigua I know that they don’t mess around. My teacher Margarita is like a drill sergeant when having the class practice the material in repetition at a fast pace to make sure we fully understand everything. This was intimidating the first day of classes, but the more I was challenged the easier things became as days went on. As someone working abroad in Antigua, I have found myself using and practicing the Spanish that I learned in class as soon as I exit the building. This truly is an awesome cultural and language immersion experience and I don't want to leave.

What would you improve about this program?
I can't think of anything negative to report on.

Perfecto!

The brilliance of the Spanish tutors at Maximo Nivel, where I studied one-on-one, was two-fold. First, as I am nearly devoid of talent for learning languages, my teachers (two, individually) were extremely patient. Their lessons were paced to my slow intake, and abiding my mistakes in a thoroughly professional manner, while fostering a relaxed mood, and in no way ever -- fear of fears -- making me feel stupid.

Second, I found it remarkable how the teachers tuned into my learning style and adapted. This certainly personalizes the experience, with the result of many "oh, I get it now" moments.

Otherwise, this company is very welcoming, good facilities, support, and of course, Antigua is a jewel, not to be missed.

Huge thumbs up.

Highly recommended

There's no need to look any further if you seek a reliable school to study Spanish in Guatemala once you've found Máximo Nivel! With excellent study material, highly professional teachers and a beautiful, central location in Antigua it is tough to beat. Apart from that, the ever-friendly staff will help you with anything, even if it isn't directly related to your language course. Above all, they arranged a wonderful homestay for me which gave me the opportunity to finetune my Spanish even more through practice outside of the school environment. I recommend Máximo Nivel without a doubt!

Questions & Answers

Hello! It depends on which country you are interested in but generally speaking we recommend $50-$70 per week for spending money on daily lunches, snacks, and transportation. If you are interested in buying souvenirs or doing tours, we recommend more than this ($100-$200 per week depending on the tours you are interested in).

Yes, it’s certainly worth it. You could opt for a program where you have classical (approx. 4 students per class) lessons in the morning (9AM-1PM) and return in the afternoon for individual classes (2PM-4PM), which would still leave you plenty of time to explore the town and its surroundings in the evenings and weekends. I did a 6-week stay in the summer of 2015 with only the classical lessons in...

My class size varied a bit during the six weeks I took Spanish lessons there (June/July 2015), but it was either 3 or 4 people including myself. The school itself is split up in two different buildings which are very close to each other (about 100m apart) and contain roughly 20 classrooms in total. One building has a nice garden, while the other one has a pleasant roof terrace. The atmosphere is...
