I have taken both private and group Spanish lessons with Maximo Nivel, and I have completely enjoyed both experiences. Before leaving the U.S., I was taking Spanish courses but never felt like it was clicking. As soon as I began taking courses abroad with Maximo, I started having my "aha" moments. Taking courses in a Spanish speaking country, and with a program such as Maximo has really increased my ability to understand and utilize the language. The Maximo style of teaching is really helpful for learning another language. I now feel much more confident in my Spanish, and feel comfortable using it on the streets. Thank you, Maximo!

This summer I learned Spanish in Guatemala through Maximo Nivel. Their program was absolutely terrific. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and the fellow students I met wanted to not only practice Spanish, but also explore the social scene(s). To that degree, my friends and I became the three international musketeers -- a Frenchman, an American, and a Guatemalteca. We explored the small city-town everyday and spent enormous amounts of time together. I'll cherish those memories forever. But they would not have been possible without Maximo Nivel. overall the program was amazing! The main highlight was my teacher. Everyday my Spanish classes were my favorite part of the day! My teacher was great at finding the details I needed to improve in my Spanish. I definite can already see my subjunctive becoming more natural.

Be aware that the home stay family is with other people at Maximo. Whenever I am with my host father it is all in Spanish which I love. However, the other foreigners in my house all speak English which means it's easy to revert back to English when I'm with them which was a little different than I hoped. This all depends on who is there when you are. One week the girls spoke good Spanish so we could all continue in Spanish, but one week one of the girls didn't speak Spanish so we spoke in English to include her.

Lastly, just be prepared to be flexible. One week I found out my Spanish classes changed the morning of my classes. They are willing to work with you and if it causes you to miss any classes they put those hours on credit for another week. It's just important to know if your okay with the occasional last minute change.

The classes are dynamic, and suit all styles of learning. You can study 1-on-1 or in a group, and every lesson is brilliantly catered to each individual`s needs. The teacher`s clearly care about the goals of the learner, and they are happy to take the time to help you through specific problems, even if it`s not exactly what the focus of the lesson is. The books are easy to follow, and there are plenty of worksheets to keep you going.

My experience studying Spanish at Maximo Nivel in Antigua, Guatemala has been excellent!! Without using any English in the classroom, my teacher is very easy to understand, and class is always so much fun! She makes sure we get lots of conversation practice, rather than just flying through the book material. We are able to take classes in small groups, so we have plenty of opportunities to practice speaking. I highly recommend Maximo for anyone who wants one-on-one experience learning Spanish.

My wife and I were looking for something new and exciting to do. We had done Disney World, Cruises, etc. but those could not compare to the value, learning, culture and experience of La Antigua and Maximo Nivel.

We both had been practicising our Spanish from secondary school at a University in our country but going to Guatemala provided such a significant boost in our confidence to interact in Spanish.

Also, the way the program is designed at Maximo Nivel, we had a host family who really took interest in ensuring that we were comfortable and helped us plan things to do when we were not at classes. Plus, we got to practise Spanish at dinner and breakfast.

If possible, we would like to return and continue classes and do some more interesting things in Antigua.

I am convinced, immersion is the best way to learn.
