A Life-Changing Experience – 10/10!

My time in Seoul with Beyond Academy was absolutely incredible. It was truly a 10/10 experience! The staff were incredibly kind, supportive, and always available whenever I needed help. I felt like part of a big family – the community was amazing and made everything even more special.

The internship experience with the host company was also outstanding and truly unforgettable. I gained so much professionally and personally. Without a doubt, this was a life-changing experience that I would recommend to anyone!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
My biggest advice is to truly enjoy the experience to the fullest. Immerse yourself in everything – the culture, the food, the people, and the professional opportunities. Say yes to new experiences, even if they’re outside your comfort zone. Spend time exploring the city, connect with other interns in the program, and build real friendships. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, take initiative at your internship, and be open to learning from every moment. This kind of opportunity doesn’t come often, so make every day count and create memories that will last a lifetime.
Pros
  • Incredible Support System – The staff is always kind, helpful, and available, making you feel truly supported throughout the entire journey.
  • Amazing Community – You become part of a welcoming and fun international group, which creates a strong sense of belonging and lasting friendships.
  • Unforgettable Internship Experience – The company placement is excellent and offers a valuable, life-changing professional experience.

Great experience

I have done both a study aborad program and this internship program and I genuinely enjoy the internship so much more.

But if you aren't ready to work in the real world or aren't willing to put in the effort to learn about it, just do a study abroad program.

You aren't gonna get exactly what you want out of the program 100%. There are some lucky interns who do, and I unfortunately was not one of them.

Not to say I hated my internship but it was more of a sales role than an HR role, which is what I had been looking for. But I was only going to be a part of the program for 2 months, and I decided that I would just use it as a growing experience.

The coordinators were great, though, and they were willing to hear me out and encouraged me to try things out and talk things out with them.

I honestly loved the coordinators so much. It was like having cool camp counselors while everyone else at the camp was weird and gross and annoying.

The share house provided by Beyond was kinda godawful though. It was nice that it was cleaned weekly but no one else in the share house would keep it clean so I rarely ever used the common spaces. Not to mention the shower rooms. For some god forsaken reason, people had a hard time changing the hairnet there. And I tore my ACL in my last week there, and I was still able to do it. Fucking bullshit.

Had to talk to the property management on several occasions, and they weren't great. On April 1st (wish it was an April Fool's joke), my shoe cabinet broke. It took them 7 days to fix it.

Property management was awful. Coordinators cool. The internship was a good growing experience. All in all, it was a great program.

Also since I crippled myself at the end I would not recommend the share house if you have mobility issues because it is not accessibility friendly at all.

What was your funniest moment?
Tore my ACL on my 2nd to last friday. :D
Pros
  • Growing experience
  • Go to mee a lot of people
  • Interesting events
Cons
  • Other interns
  • Walking so much walking
  • Share house

Learning and Growth

This program is a great opportunity to grow and learn to trust yourself. The community team will provide all the support you need, but will also step back and let you figure things out on your own when you need to. Though living abroad certainly has its challenges, I would recommend it to anyone, and I think this program is a great way to make that happen. I had the most amazing time and met some incredible people through my living accommodations. This was a truly special experience and I'm so grateful I had the opportunity to live in Barcelona.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Always say yes to new experiences. It may seem scary or overwhelming at the time, but each new experience is just a new opportunity for growth, and you might just discover a new passion!
Pros
  • Meeting new people from different cultures
  • Growing professionally and personally
  • Learning about a new culture
Cons
  • The program is kind of expensive
  • Sometimes the people a program like this attracts are not very friendly

The London community team are the best!!

The London community team was amazing! They were always so happy to help me with any advice I needed about my internship, housing, or even just life in London. I felt so comfortable talking to all of them, like I was talking to a friend, every time!

There was always so much to do and so much on offer from Beyond. So many options for events, but never any pressure to do all of them, you could easily pick and choose which social events you wanted to go to! And every one I went to was so much fun, and I met so many other interns from around the world who I am still in contact with now!

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
Traveling to a country on the other side of the world by myself to live and work was pretty nerve-racking. I’d never traveled by myself before and wasn’t sure I’d even be able to do it, but once I got the chance to meet some other interns through Beyond, and also where I was working, and make friends I was able to settle in easily, and felt so much more comfortable knowing I had other people to talk to.
Pros
  • An amazing addition to a resume
  • Opportunity to live and work abroad
  • Make amazing friends from around the world
Cons
  • Not the exact field I was hoping to work in (but pretty close!)
  • Harder to settle in to a shorter program, but longer ones can be a bit pricey
  • Housing wasn’t always great

A Memorable Place

In recent years, I have wanted to travel by myself, but still have a support system, and Beyond Academy provided that for me. The staff were always so friendly and responded quickly to any questions I had on my mind. Overall process from start to end was great. Everything was made clear, and the assistance was fantastic. My internship was amazing and turned out to be really enjoyable. I absolutely loved Seoul and exploring the city. Beyond always had some of the greatest events, and it was nice not to have to deal with booking main attractions events in Seoul that I would have had to book on my own.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
First off, be open-minded to a new culture and way of life! I didn't experience culture shock, interestingly...But I am an introvert, so for me, Korea, I blended into it easily. Secondly, the culture is contradictory, especially the people; they are either super nice or rude. Thirdly, slow down and enjoy the time around you, the Seoul life is always so fast-paced, but take time to just walk the Seoul streets or in nature. Lastly, I would say yes, go to all the events that Beyond Acadmey plans, but also know it's okay to say no. If you haven't worked a full-time job before, especially one like an office job, everything can get exhausting fast.
Pros
  • Work experience in advancing my portfolio
  • Make some amazing friendships
  • Growing life opportunity
Cons
  • More on the expensive side

What is your favorite travel memory?

I’ve been fortunate enough to travel a lot, so I have many beautiful memories - it’s hard to choose just one! A recent memory was seeing Lucha Libre wrestling in Mexico City! It was so amazing and the buzzing atmosphere sucks you into the theatrics of it all right away. Even though I couldn’t understand a word, I lost my voice joining in with the chants and cheers!

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

The nature of my role with Beyond Academy means I’m constantly meeting new people from all over the world, from an incredibly diverse range of backgrounds. That interaction constantly introduces me to new perspectives and ideas and challenges, all of which help me grow, professionally and personally.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

Not a single best story but I always love hearing about the adventures our interns go on together outside of the program. Sometimes that’s a weekend away in another city, a story about why a big night out before means some interns haven’t made it to an early morning event the next day! It’s really great to be a part of bringing people together and see friendships form.

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

I’ve always wanted to visit New York and so I’d definitely choose our program there! It would be great to have the tips and tricks from the New York community team. It’s always enhancing your traveling experience when you’ve got some local knowledge to guide you. I think that’s especially true of big cities like NYC.

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

Like our interns, our team - company wide - is from such a diverse range of backgrounds and cultures. Everyone has a walked a really different path that led them to be with Beyond Academy. I feel proud that we as a team embrace those differences and have a culture of openness where everyone can contribute and bring their unique perspective and ideas to the work we do.

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

Developing a well-functioning team is essential to being a successful company. It is important to choose the right people to join the team and learn to maintain a good working relationships and make everyone feel involved and needed. You cannot guarantee agreements all the time, we’re all human, but it’s important to maintain an atmosphere where honesty is respected, open communication is encouraged, and mistakes are learnt from. This makes it easier to repair relationships and strengthen the team overall.
