Tokyo Internships with Beyond Academy

I remember looking through reviews just this before I decided to go ahead. There's probably a lot of things you're thinking:
- Is this a good way to gain experience?
- Will I find an internship that suits me?
- Will I have support in my career and in the country I chose?
- How come all the reviews are so positive, am I going to get scammed?
Well, I'll do my best to give my own experience.
First things first, there is a reason why all the reviews are so positive. To put it simply, my experience with Beyond Academy will be something I will never shut up about for the next few years. First off, compared to a lot of other companies that offer similar internship + tourist experiences, BA is by far the most cost effective and fun. You can have great accommodation (with convenient commute times) as well as minimum 1 activity each week. You can even ask for specific events and as long as its within the budget, you can experience that too. All the coordinators speak japanese, so if there's an experience that requires someone who speaks fluently, there's a good chance you can ask and have that event be organized for you.
Not to mention, all the coordinators are super friendly and accommodating, often going out of their way to research something for you and make sure you're safe and enjoying yourself. I've met so many different people in my two months in Japan - both from the intern cohort themselves and from the people I live with. In your accommodation, there's a good chance a majority of your flatmates will be those studying japanese in a local school, and you may have 1-2 other BA interns with you, but its super chill trust me. You get to live with different people that you may not have gotten to meet in your home country! You're guaranteed to find someone to hang out with and go somewhere you were maybe to nervous to go alone to!

As for the actual work, I know I was quite nervous with finding an internship that suited me. You get around 1-2 offers, and if you're nervous that the first offer isn't your thing, just be patient and you'll hopefully get another chance from another company. I didn't have much on my CV in terms of experience, and I still found a company that was absolutely lovely to work with!

It's a little nerve-wracking and you may not find the perfect workplace, but there is still a lot to learn and experience. If you ever have an issues with your company, the BA team are always looking to help you and improve your experience. But i doubt you will have issues!

In my two months here, i think i grew a lot as a person and as an employee. I've learnt a lot about work-life balance i couldn't have learnt in my home country and I would for SURE recommend this experience to everyone!

My six-week experience with Beyond Academy in Tokyo was honestly an amazing experience and something I’ll remember for a long time. Before going, I was excited but also quite nervous because it was my first time travelling abroad for an internship and I didn’t really know what to expect. Looking back now, I’m really glad I decided to take the opportunity.

The main reason I chose the Tokyo programme was because I wanted to experience what it would actually be like to live and work in Japan, especially because studying and potentially working there in the future is something I’m very interested in. Being able to spend six weeks there gave me a much better understanding of the country, the culture and the working environment than I could have got from simply visiting as a tourist.

The internship itself was one of my favourite parts. I was able to work on real creative projects involving video editing, social media and content creation. I worked on different reels and other content, which allowed me to develop my editing, communication and creative skills while also learning how a professional team operates. I was given responsibilities and feedback throughout the placement, which helped me improve my work and become more confident in a professional environment.

I particularly enjoyed being able to work with people in Japan and experience a different working culture. It was interesting seeing how communication, teamwork and the general atmosphere of the workplace differed from what I was used to. I also really appreciated being trusted with actual work rather than feeling like I was simply there to observe.

Beyond the internship, living in Tokyo was an experience in itself. I got to explore so much of the city, try different foods, visit different areas and experience everyday life in Japan. I also met some great people through the programme, and having other interns around made the experience much more enjoyable. There were plenty of opportunities to go out, explore together and make memories outside of work.

The Beyond Academy coordinators were also very helpful throughout my stay. Having people I could contact if I had questions or needed help made being in a completely new country feel much easier, particularly when I first arrived. I appreciated having that support available while still having the freedom to experience Tokyo independently.

One of the biggest things I gained from the experience was confidence. I came to Japan wanting to challenge myself and see whether I could actually picture myself living there in the future. After six weeks, I feel much more confident travelling independently, working with new people, adapting to a different environment and putting myself outside of my comfort zone.

Overall, I would highly recommend Beyond Academy to anyone considering an international internship, especially if you're someone who wants to combine professional experience with actually experiencing life in another country. For me, it wasn't just an internship — it gave me valuable work experience, helped me grow personally and gave me a much clearer idea of what I want to work towards in the future.

I was matched with the perfect company and felt like I gained real career experience and connections. I was able to network, contribute ideas, connect with clients, and feel like a real team player. I was truly valued for my contributions and not just seen as inexperienced and given menial tasks.

As for Beyond Academy, they are with you every step of the way. Living in Tokyo is not easy, but the supportive coordinators are easy to reach out to if you have any questions from before you arrive and all throughout your internship. They also have fun social events for all interns a couple of times a week, so you do not have to worry about trying too much to look for others to spend time with. They also love hearing what kind of activities and events interns are interested in, so it's very easy to collaborate on having fun experiences together in Tokyo. The possibilities are infinite!

This was an extremely valuable experience! Having never been out of the country before, I find that this program was a good opportunity to see what it’d be like because at least you aren’t completely on your own and are able to ask for help when needed. Including the several opportunities you’ll have to make friends with those in your internship or accommodation! There will never be a boring moment because you’ll either be at your internship or you’ll be at one of the many events that Beyond has.

This experience was a lot of fun. The interview process and finding an internship was smooth and the support beyond academy offers is professional. The work I did felt meaningful, and I got along with my coworkers wonderfully. The coordinators from beyond were next level and always were helpful and made the experience that much more fun and stress free. Tokyo Japan was a beautiful location, and living in Japan was an absolute pleasure! I would absolutely recommend this experience to other travelers or students!

I loved this program so much more than I ever could have imagined! I think that going through a program like Beyond was a good way for me to feel out a place I’ve always wanted to visit but have never gotten the chance. I got to meet so many new people from so many different places, and definitely had connections that will last a lifetime! I also loved the company I was working for! I worked as a graphic designer/ marketer for a fashion technology company, which is something I never would have thought of doing. I would highly recommend the program if you have the funds to do so!

Very supportive staff throughout my time. Really enjoyed my internship and the extra activities/events they would put on. Made a few friends in the programme and within my internship. This helped me grow and realise a few things about myself, it has given me motivation to explore further in my field of interest. The coordinators in Beyond academy really try their best to help and support you. I would recommend doing an internship with them in Tokyo, you get a mixture between what work life is but also all the fun and interesting things that there are to do in Tokyo.
