I would do this again

Taking a risk to live in a foreign country by yourself can have many challenges, one of them being making connections. Beyond Academy gave me an opportunity to meet friends with whom I developed extremely meaningful relationships, and that was a helpful foundation to remain in a comfortable headspace to take advantage of all the guidance Beyond Academy offered me while I was in Tokyo. If I had the opportunity to participate in the Beyond Academy program again, I would without a doubt, and I would recommend it to anyone interested in global studies.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
My advice to future travelers is to do a lot of research on the country that you are going to in advance, specifically about the societal norms, professional etiquette, and other experiences tourists have had in the country.
Pros
  • Making new friends that I still talk to today
  • Less hassle looking for an internship on my own
  • Exploring a dream destination
Cons
  • Price

Wonderful experience

My 4-months stay in Tokyo was a wonderful experience. Beyond Academy managed to find me opportunities in the Fintech sector, even though I was only on my 2nd year of my bachelor. Everything is well done to make us comfortable. A lot and diverse activities are offered. For example : a Fuji trip, karaoke, kimono rental and tea ceremony, Japanese restaurant, and so on. The Tokyo Community Team was also very kind and very friendly, and were always here for your help! It is one of my best experience. You feel very safe and never lonely. I recommend it a lot.

What was your funniest moment?
The karaoke was a typical and very funny moment. Everybody singing in Shibuya at night was such a very good and unique mood.
Pros
  • Help you a lot
  • Community team very kind and friendly
  • Find you good opportunities

Best 6 Weeks of My Life!

My time in Tokyo with Beyond Academy was the best 6 weeks of my life so far. From the great internship I was assigned to the other interns I have made lifelong friends with, my time with BA was incredible from start to finish. The events put on by the program are a great way to see the city you're living in, but there is plenty of time to also explore on your own. The internship is also super helpful in contributing to professional development. The coordinators were super helpful and made me feel comfortable every step of the way. I can't recommend an internship with Beyond Academy enough.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
The one thing I would change is my duration. I WISH I selected longer that 6 weeks - I was truly sad to leave the program.
Pros
  • Making new friends
  • Living in a new country
  • Boosting your CV
Cons
  • Cost of program

Go to Tokyo

I absolutely loved my experience not only when it comes to destination but also the friendships you make along the way. I will admit that my internship was tough especially due to the fact that it was a tradition Asian work space but because I had a support group to hang out with and try new things with every week, my time in Tokyo felt so short and full. I definitely recommend Beyond Academy to any students or any free spirits who want to get out of their comfort zone. I will forever cherish the memories I have made with such amazing people.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
I usually have a hard time when introducing and meeting others but I definitely recommend you to go out there and just do it. Many are on the same boat and are also nervous so just go all out.
Pros
  • Connections
  • Friendships
  • Experience
Cons
  • Busy city life
  • Shared house
  • Japan summer

Tokyo Internship Review

If you’re scared of traveling alone or just wanting to get some working experience under your belt I’d recommend this program to you. I personally came not expecting much but I left with not only a new perspective in life but new lifelong friends and some good experience to add to the resume. If you’re second guessing it, just go for it, the coordinators here are super supportive, the other interns are super friendly, plus you get to explore a whole new country with a group instead of doing it alone

What was your funniest moment?
Renting out an a house with friends and staying up all night singing karaoke
Pros
  • Coordinators are really supportive
  • Communication is really good
  • Lots of events and chances to experience Japan
Cons
  • Weather in Japan isn’t the best

Would Recommend!

I had an excellent time on this program, I learn loads and found the Beyond Academy company brilliant at organizing events and give tips for traveling around Tokyo! They were excellent at advice on the Japanese lifestyle and any info you were interested in!

The coordinators were great at helping me navigate anything I found difficult and helpful with optimizing my experience in Japan! Marc and Ceci were particularly good at travel and food tips! I met some amazing people along the way and overall would recommend!!

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
If I was to do this again, I would plan the activities I would like to do a bit better to make sure I have time to fit everything in!!
Pros
  • Social-life
  • Tourism
  • Resume Building
Cons
  • Easy to get lost in Tokyo

Beyond

I had a splendid time doing beyond academy. The people you meet and all the fun things you get to do make the whole thing worth it. As for the job it depends on the company and the job you go for. Some people worked all the time, and others barely worked at all. Either way the people, the experiences and all the exploration outside of the job are elite and worth it. If you are thinking about doing it I’d say definitely give it a shot and go out and explore, work, and have fun. Shoutout Beyonf Academy

Don’t miss this opportunity !

Beyond Academy internships are not only an incredible opportunity to explore a new country and culture, but also provide the opportunity to grow in your career and strengthen your assets! Moving abroad for 6 months or even 6 weeks can be an intimidating idea, but the staff at Beyond Academy makes it as smooth as possible and ensures support, community and cultural activities. I couldn’t imagine finding the internship on my own, and I’m sure I wouldn’t have been able (or comfortable) to do the activities without a group to go with and facilitate it. Having weekly options of events ensured I made the most out of my time and I’m so thankful to have had such a wonderful staff on site to support me!

What was your funniest moment?
I’m not sure if it was the most funny event, but the first one that came to mind happened on the Beyond Academy Fuji trip!
A group of us split off during a break to explore an outdoor mall, and we noticed a police guard on duty. Apparently a dog had gone potty on the side walk and the police officer was guarding the spot to ensure no one would step in it. The image of the guard attentively crouched and warning every passing person was so funny, all of us were dying laughing.
