CISAbroad - Intern in Sydney

I had an amazing time interning in Sydney, Australia. If it wasn’t for CISAbroad I wouldn’t have been able to fly halfway across the world and meet my amazing friends that I encountered in Australia. I have amazing memories and travel experiences that branched from my internship. The food was great, the tours were great, the living conditions were better than expected and traveling was something easily accessible and very economic. Sydney is amazing and I highly recommend this program to others. 10/10 I would recommend because I wouldn’t change these memories for anything! I will be coming back to Sydney!

What would you improve about this program?
I believe if CISAbroad hadn’t used Australian Internships it would’ve run more smoothly.

My semester in Rome

I had an incredible 4 months in Rome, a city that quickly became my beloved home. CISabroad helped make a great experience something unforgettable, with the friends and experiences I had thanks to CISabroad. The balance between school and free time was perfect, and school was a lot better than I thought it would be. I never thought I would travel and see so many places; however, I could have spent my whole time in Rome and still have been extremely content. Best 4 months of my life.

best decision!!

CISabroad is the best decision for Dublin! I compared all other programs offered by my school and this was the least expensive by far. However you aren’t missing out on anything. My friend who did API in Dublin paid significantly more than I did and did not get any excursions. We had 3 excursions built into the semester that are apart of the initial cost. The staff is extremely helpful. They organize everything for you and tell you everything you need to do and when. They answer any questions you have as well. On site staff was great as well. Housing was eh, but i wasn’t expecting much either. But you really can’t go wrong with Dublin! Amazing city, friendly people, safe environment.

Mi Encanta Barcelona

CIS Abroad provided me with the opportunity to go overseas post-undergrad. I graduated from Texas A&M University in December 2015 with a Bachelor's degree in Anthropology and English minor. I had been working full-time for almost a year after I graduated college but felt stifled and unfulfilled. I was in the process of applying to law school and sensed I needed to truly isolate myself in order to determine if I was making the best decision for my future. I've always wanted to learn Spanish and felt the only way to do so would be to immerse myself in the culture. I've always had an affinity for Barcelona and had traveled there in the past so CIS Abroad was a dream come true. I received an internship tailored towards my unique interests and skills. I always had a passion for fashion and was afforded to opportunity complete a fashion marketing internship where I gained invaluable insight into the start-up community in Barcelona. As an intern at Lumumba Fashion Company I Collaborated with marketing and design team to develop content strategy aligned with marketing targets; created and published engaging content and edited and improved other writers’ content; and conducted research to assist clients with product branding and differentiating. I am currently a second year law student at Pepperdine University and I know that my internship experience has contributed to my success and versatility in the legal profession.
I was also afforded the opportunity to take Spanish courses that were instrumental helping me learn the language. I loved the classroom atmosphere and the commitment to my success.
Most importantly I met the most amazing group of people through the CIS Abroad program. I formed a family with strangers and explored Barcelona and beyond. Every day was a new adventure and I truly thank God for such an amazing experience.

What would you improve about this program?
I enjoyed my housing experience throughly but I had friends who had issues in regards to inadequate placement. My family was wonderful but sometimes I found myself a bit disatisfied with the food choices.

Ghana semester review

Great place to learn and experience a totally new culture but academically it may not be as challenging as what you're used to.
Ghana was great mostly because of the friendships made. But I never noticed the presence CISabroad made in my experience.
The staff didn't really know much about campus except from what previous students have told them.
So it would be great if CISabroad and the university were more connected in sharing information for their students.

What would you improve about this program?
Provide detailed information on living conditions and academics. Perhaps have past students give advice.

Amazing

My experience was over all amazing. It was a very easy process which made me want to do it more! Everyone was very helpful, any time I had a question I felt comfortable to ask and always got the help I needed! Going to London was an amazing experience for me! It was very funny to hear people ask where my accent was from because you never think you have one until you travel somewhere else! The culture over there was so wonderful to see and learn! You see things online and TV but it is nothing like experiencing it first hand.Everyone was very welcoming and very enthusiastic! I recommend everyone to do this amazing experience at least once in their life and Cisabroad is a great way to go!

What would you improve about this program?
Honestly not much !

Internship in Barcelona Summer 2017

The two months that I spent in Barcelona were two months that I will never forget. They were packed full of interesting and new experiences that I would not have been able to get otherwise. CISAbroad had good lines of contact to their students in the program, but sometimes fell short with communicating with their internship placement supervisors. My internship experience was just that, a simple job that helped me gain semi-professional work experience, but didn't match exactly what I want to do in the future. The housing provided was sufficient, although sharing a closet-sized room with a stranger was difficult at first, you learn to adapt accordingly. The location was prime, that being right by La Sagrada Familia and steps away from bus stops and the metro. One thing that everyone needs to do who is going abroad in Barcelona is to explore. Know every inch of the city! This will make more a much more enjoyable experience for you and your new friends! Take advantage of all the program has to offer, but don't be afraid to go out on your own. My roommates and I became super close by traveling all around Europe together on our trips separate from the program. You are too close to so many other amazing places that you shouldn't pass the opportunity to get there by a plane, a train, or any other form of transportation! I would recommend this program to anyone who is thinking of studying/doing an internship abroad.

What would you improve about this program?
In order to improve this program, the people at CISAbroad need to be more in tune with the students needs. The internship that I was matched with was simply okay. The advising and matching process is somewhat flawed, and more in depth matching is needed. They need to offer more options for placements, as well as figure out a good way to communicate with the students about needs involving credit/non-credit situations.
Response from CIS Abroad

We're thrilled to hear your program in Barcelona provided you with work experience and close friends in a city unlike any other! As you gathered, housing in Barcelona (especially in such a prime location!) provides less space than you might be used to (like many city centers in Europe you may have noticed!). However, it's great to hear you became close friends with those you were sharing close spaces with - during the apparently rare moments when you weren't exploring Barcelona or further afield, that is ;)

Custom internships are a tricky realm to operate within, so we're always making adjustments to the many factors in the placement process. It sounds like your internship placement fell a bit short of your expectations, but still provided valuable work experience, resume building potential, and an opportunity to immerse in the culture and get to know locals. Thanks for the feedback!

Semester in Edinburgh

The program made spending a semester abroad in the most wonderful city an absolute breeze. Edinburgh came to be my true home, with endless thanks due to the CIS staff who coordinated and welcomed us so seamlessly. Everything put on by the program itself was incredibly useful and fun, and yet there was ample opportunity for independent adventures. I was able to travel to nearly twenty different cities throughout Europe on weekends, breaks, and after classes ended. The CIS staff was not only willing to let us take these trips, but encouraged us to do so and gave us as much information to make it as smooth and enjoyable as possible.
Since completing the program, I have realized that the semester abroad wasn't the quenching of my travel thirst. Instead, it was only the first taste. I believe that CIS was a crucial experience for me, one that will impact the way I live the rest of my life.

What would you improve about this program?
I only encountered a very few issues throughout the program. One was with communication to the university. It seemed that everything was made more complicated than necessary and many things were easily confused because of this. If this process was simplified, I think it would be more enjoyable for everyone involved. Additionally, I found that I mainly only met students from the same country as myself. While it was nice to make friends who came from the same background as me, I felt that that wasn't my main purpose of studying abroad, so I would recommend diversifying the housing situation a bit.

Semester Abroad-University of Westminster.

With this program came an infinite amount of opportunities. I was able to make friends of a lifetime, travel throughout Europe with a safe staff right by my side, embark on excursions that were included by being apart of CISabroad, the list is truly endless. With this trip being my first time out of the country I was nervous, as anybody should be. The support system I have been granted through this specific program allowed me to gain sense of comfort. I never had an issue with communication via the onsite directors and I was always provided with the information I was seeking. Throughout my three month journey in London, I couldn't have imagined having the same experience without CISabroad.

What would you improve about this program?
One thing that could definitely be improved upon is to give the students, us, the option to live in flats rather than the dormitory buildings. There were many issues that I, along with the other students in the building, experienced that got to be annoying. Fire alarms went off every thursday morning, elevators broke often (having to take twelve flights of stairs), key cards wouldn't work occasionally, but those are just a few things. Another thing that can be improved upon is to let everybody within the program to embark on the excursions. My travel buddy and I were not aware that you had to sign up in advance to partake in that specific activity. Therefore, we did not get to enjoy one excursion that was given through the program.

Study Abroad

Everyone was so friendly and extremely helpful. The first week there, the on site coordinator showed us around and made sure we were all comfortable for our first week of classes. The class work was not too difficult, which made it easier to travel on the weekends. You actually felt like you were at home and not in another country. My favorite place in Edinburgh would have to be Cramond Island, which you can only get to at low tide. At low tide a land bridge opens up and you can walk to the island. There are abandoned buildings from World War II that you can explore. I also highly recommend taking a trip up to the Highlands and visiting the Isle of Skye.
