Keats Chinese School Reviews

I had an amazing two weeks at Keats Kunming and learned a lot in a short time. I came in speaking around HSK 5 level and wanted to improve my spoken Chinese rather than just study more textbook material. The classes were tailored to exactly what I needed.

The facilities were excellent, and all of the staff were incredibly welcoming and supportive. There were plenty of activities to choose from, making it easy to meet new people and experience the local culture. I also have to mention Kunming’s weather in July, which was absolutely perfect and made the whole experience even more enjoyable.

The highlight of my stay was my teacher, Pan Laoshi. She understood that I wanted to be able to discuss both complex topics and everyday conversations, including more natural and slang expressions. Lessons felt like genuine conversations with a friend while still being challenging and productive. She also gave me great advice on how to continue learning after the course, including using Chinese social media and TV series that matched my level and interests.

Two weeks flew by, but I got so much out of the experience and met some amazing people along the way.

I would recommend Kunming Keats to learners at any level. The teaching is personalised, the environment is welcoming, and it was an experience I would happily do again.

I spent three weeks at Keats, doing 6 hours a day of 1-1 classes and would really recommend them. The staff were all so welcoming and went out of their way to help me. My tutor was wonderful. If you want to make fast progress then the 1-1 classes are well worth it, and you can take your classes outside instead so you get chance to talk with locals. I went to the Kunming branch, and their location in the city is really convenient. You get plenty of time to socialise with other students at meal times or during organised activities and weekend trips.

OK, i'm starting this by saying that the judgement is only based upon 10 days of stay; had i stayed more, it would have been more detailed.
The location of the school was almost perfect, with a 10 minute walking range to the bustling city center. The school itself was well equipped and overall nice looking (expecially the caffeteria and some of the room floors), rooms were decently packed with utensils, enclosed showers and private bathrooms, they weren't the biggest, but cosy and still enough for the little time you had to stay there. Education wise, the teachers were capable and sweet, able to both teach, help and entertain the class. We got quite lucky and managed to play a lot of games too, and we surely did learn quite a lot through them; the school even supplied us with t-shirts, huge beverages bottles, pens and notebooks for lessons. Overall i'd rate this experience 9/10, and i surely do hope I get to re-do it in the near future.

My time at Keats was awesome. We visited museums, big markets, the beautiful lakes and parks, and enjoyed the city center of KunMing. The lessons were fun and interactive, often included little games. My Chinese improved quite a bit and I even had the opportunity to practice with native speakers during the afternoon activities and while doing the tasks assigned during class everyday. The food was nice and almost anything you’d need is pretty much walk distance from Keats. Would love to come back :)

Ps: I have not lived this trip to the fullest.. I wish I had!!! With all the limitations I had because i came with a big group of people, I still had fun. I can’t imagine how awesome it would be as a solo trip or with a small group of friends ;)

I came to Keats for an intensive Mandarin course and left with far more than I expected. The setup is brilliant: students live in the same building as the school, which means you're in class within two minutes of waking up. It sounds like a small thing, but it removes all the friction and lets you focus entirely on learning.

Living alongside fellow students naturally builds a real sense of community. Evenings and weekends fill themselves: meals together, trips around Kunming, excursions into Yunnan province, which is spectacularly varied and endlessly worth exploring.

Full board is included, so food, accommodation, and classes are all taken care of under one roof. It genuinely frees your headspace.

The classes themselves are the core of it, of course, and they deliver. Small groups, plenty of interaction, and teachers who push you to actually use the language rather than just absorb it passively. My spoken Mandarin improved faster in a few weeks here than it had in months of self-study.

Highly recommended for anyone serious about learning Chinese in an immersive, well-organised environment.

This program was so much fun!
I'm not good at speaking English and Chinese, but my classmates and teachers were very kind, so I was happy to be able to talk to everyone slowly while learning Chinese. Also, I was able to go to various places in Kunming for the first time and take a lot of photos, so I am very satisfied! The place that I found particularly fun is oceanworld. Unlike Japanese aquariums, I could see a grand show and there were several attractions, so it was fresh, and I felt that it was very fun to go around while talking a lot with my friends.
I would like to participate again if I have the opportunity!

The Keats School in Kunming was an amazing experience; a wonderful mix of language learning, cultural experiences, and kind people.
The classes were a good size: just large enough to foster a sense of community while still being both specialized and adaptive. Within the class, I learned lots of new words and grammar through a variety of fun methods, including games of impostor and creating stories based on images.
We were able to visit many beautiful and interesting places in Kunming, including the Black Dragon Pool and Ocean World Sunac, a unique place that was a mix of aquarium and amusement park.
The residential life was also very nice. The rooms were clean and homy, the food traditional and delicious, and the staff helpful and kind.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this very fun and valuable experience, and I am very grateful that I was able to have it.

There are so many things I loved about this place! Classes were actually helpful and the teaching ways were very effective. I’m also glad I was able to meet people from several different states and countries! Making new friends was definitely one of my favorite parts of this camp. Not only did my Chinese reading and writing improve, but I was able to learn how different my country is from others. Field trips were also very enjoyable, and so were the evening activities. I’m very thankful I was able to have this experience, and it will be something I remember for a long time!

I really enjoyed this past week in Kunming studying chinese. Not only was the housing and food very good, and the instruction we got in the classes was very helpful and I felt that I was already improving within the first day. I loved the little games we played during class, and the our teacher was super nice and chill. The trips we went on in the afternoon were also very fun, my favorite being our visit to 'Ocean World'. I also really enjoyed playing the evening games such as chinese chess and shuttlecock which were very fun and competitive. Even if I lost 4 times in chinese chess. Overall, the past week has been amazing and I feel my chinese has improved greatly!

I’ve had a wonderful experience here in China. Everyone is so friendly, and I feel my Chinese proficiency has improved tremendously. I’ve made many friends, and my class was amazing—especially my teacher, who pushed and helped me improve in every aspect. I would love to come back; it’s an experience I highly recommend. The city is beautiful, and everyone is incredibly kind, offering support and helping you improve. I truly appreciate the weeks I’ve spent here and hope to return soon!
