Keats Chengdu

I’m really glad I got to spend my time here at Keats in Chengdu. Learning Chinese for a week while experiencing the local life has truly been one of the best decisions I’ve made.

I love both the school and the city. The private lessons are comfortable and very enjoyable, and the people here in Chengdu are so chill and kind. The foods are also delicious! The weather is also nice here during spring.

I will definitely recommend both the school and Chengdu to others. Thank you so much for having me! 🤍

Pros
  • Ask local about the good foods
  • Go to flower market
  • Hanfu photoshoot

A Very Good Review

KEATS is a great program that I would recommend to anyone who wants a in-country Chinese language program. Before I signed up, I saw several good reviews online and perused the school’s very professional website. The only aspects with which people said they were dissatisfied were the food and some of the accommodations. I saw no criticism of the Chinese program from former students, and since this was my main priority, I signed up and I wasn’t disappointed. (For what it’s worth, in my opinion that the food and lodging were very nice.)

My teacher, Ms. Zhou was very informative and helpful in every way. From the beginning of the course, I wrote some example sentences with the new vocabulary, and she was always willing to read through whatever I had written and offer corrections, which helped me learn a lot.

Keats’s Kunming location is an ideal place to take a Chinese language course not only because of the city’s year-round spring weather but also because of the school’s proximity to the city’s greatest attractions. Keat’s is conveniently situated in the middle of the city, right next to a subway station and is close to lots of different attractions, including a teahouse that I had the pleasure of visiting. They had an abundance of flavors that would entice anyone, many different teas and a peaceful atmosphere.

I visited the local night market several times just to buy things and to see the nightlife. The night market has lots of different kinds of food and tea. I would recommend it to anyone. I made friends not only with other students in the program but also a few Kunming locals, and the impression they made will stay with me for a long time.

The art gallery in Kunming has some really beautiful artwork, including big murals and some highly realistic oil paintings.

Really, Keats is an excellent program that I woul recommend to anyone with an interest in Chinese language. If you want to learn Chinese in a good, exciting environment, Keats is the right place.

Keats school experience

I had an excellent experience at Keats Chinese School. From the moment I arrived, the entire staff was welcoming, professional, and always ready to help with anything I needed. Their support made settling in easy and stress-free. Peng Laoshi and Lei Laoshi are truly outstanding teachers. They created a positive and encouraging classroom environment where I felt comfortable speaking Chinese, even when I made mistakes. Thanks to their patience and guidance, my confidence improved significantly, and I became more motivated to keep learning. My only regret is not staying longer to continue progressing. I sincerely hope to return in the future for more study and another enriching. Thank you so much for everything guys!

Individual Classes and Encouraging Environment

Everything was organized perfectly. I had not to worry about anything from the arrival on forward to departure.

The lessons were made for one's needs and no standard procedures. We could talk a lot to improve listening and speaking Chinese. Also got an insight on Chinese Culture.

I can also highly recommend a homestay, as my host family was the sweetest and also suitable for adults, as they did not limit me in my plans but always gave me advices.

The food offered by the school was also tasty :)

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would stay longer🥹
Pros
  • Vegetable Food after request
  • Organization perfectly (you can also order online to the school)
  • Very nice people

The teachers are attentive to each student's needs and establish a highly personalized study routine.

Kunming is a comfortable and well-organized city with a very favorable climate for Chinese language students. Any questions or needs are addressed by the school's teachers. Alongside language study and city outings, it is possible to acquire knowledge of calligraphy, poetry, cooking, history, or any other subject. In summary, the study of Chinese can be organized dynamically and transversally with knowledge of the country's culture. Furthermore, on weekends, one can visit very interesting places in Yunnan province due to the unique character of this province near the Himalayas, surrounded by natural landscapes and ancient cities. Each place has its own culture, food, and customs, and Yunnan province is home to a great variety of ethnic minorities, each with its own specific characteristics.

I had private lessons 1-1

the teacher prepared very well the lessons. I am a beginner and she made the Chinese easy to understand and I improved very quickly. after 10 lessons I can have basic Chinese conversation.

Kunming is a nice city with many parks and some lessons we went outside to practice in real situations. I also travel to another city, Lijiang, and Sangri-La. I Could learn more about the different cultures in Yunnan and I have to say that the overall experience was very positive at Keats. The School has a good location next to the MRT and students from many nationalities made the experience very good. We also had local food and the school that was very yummy and for Chinese New Year we even made Chinese food ourselves!!

Great two-week Chinese learning experience

I studied at Keats School for two weeks and had a really good experience. The school is in a convenient and pleasant location, and the campus is clean, quiet, and well organized, which made it easy to focus on studying. From the first day, the staff were friendly and helpful, and I felt comfortable and welcomed.

My teacher was amazing—very patient, professional, and supportive. She explained lessons clearly and always encouraged me to speak and practice, making the classes both productive and enjoyable. The lessons were intensive and had a lot of useful content, but the atmosphere was relaxed and not stressful. I really appreciated how much she cared about my progress.

I also liked the after-class activities. They were varied and fun, and gave me a chance to see the city and experience local culture. I studied in China in a real environment and had the chance to meet local people and use Chinese in daily life. Even though I had never studied Chinese before, I was able to follow the lessons and felt supported by my teacher.

After finishing the two-week program, I felt inspired and motivated to continue learning Chinese in the future. Overall, it was a balanced and enjoyable learning experience, and I would recommend this program to anyone who wants to study Chinese in a supportive environment.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
I suggest staying at least two weeks or longer to get the most benefit from the intensive classes. Try to join the after-class activities because they help you use Chinese in real situations and learn about local culture. Don’t worry about making mistakes—the teacher is very patient and supportive.

  • Good balance between intensive study and relaxed atmosphere
  • Fun and varied after-class activities

1 week intensive training in Kunming

I attended a one-week Chinese training at Keats School and had a very positive experience. The teaching quality was good, and my teachers quickly adapted to my level and goals, focusing on the key aspects I needed most—especially speaking and listening. Lessons were practical and efficient, and I felt real progress in a short time thanks to clear explanations, targeted corrections, and daily practice. The organization was also very good: everything was smooth from scheduling to support, and the “all-included” setup made it easy to focus on studying. The accommodation is small, but it is clean, comfortable, and convenient, which is exactly what I needed for an intensive week. Life in Kunming felt pleasant and relaxed, with a nice climate and a friendly atmosphere, which made the whole learning experience even more enjoyable.

What would you improve about this program?
I would create a business oriented program with more immersion. Ex: Only Chinese during meals, mandatory activities for different vocabulary,…
Pros
  • Quality of Teaching
  • Speaking & listening Practice
  • Feedbacks

Great learning experience! 谢谢Keats!

I took a 4-week intensive Mandarin 1 to 1 classes with Keats in Kunming and Banna. 4 hours/day 5 days a week.

I initially chose to spend 2 weeks in Banna and 2 in Kunming. Unfortunately I had a flu and decided last minute to stay in Banna also for week 3. The school was very accommodating and able to make last minute arrangements. The quality of teaching was outstanding, I was a total beginner and progressed really fast I feel. I love reading and I was provided with extra reading material and online resources. The teacher was a star. Very patient provided a number of extra activities including visit to temple, market and we shared several meals together. The school in Kunming offers several extra activities. All in all a wonderful experience! Already thinking about coming back perhaps for a longer period of time ! 100% happy with the experience and would recommend to anyone who is serious about learning Mandarin!

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
I loved all the restaurants we visited! The hun tun lithle restaurant in Banna and the gorgeous lamb hotpot we ate in Kunming! Also wonderful visit to the daoist temple in Kunming, a short stroll from Keats. Great tea offering and zen vibe!
