Best Summer Experience In My Life

If you want to meet amazing people from all around the world and gain international work experience this is a fantastic program. It’s a fun, easy way to meet amazing people and spend a summer in London. London is a very BIG city, so make sure that you research and get to know the city as well as you can before you arrive. The time flies during the program, so doing that before will save you so much time. Make sure to have an open-mindset and you will have a fantastic time in Europe with the program.

London is a great city to live and meet people. The absolute staff is there all the time for you and are very supportive. 100% recommend absolute!

What would you improve about this program?

Worst Service ever

This company charges a lot for offering a internship in some of cities around the world. They are supposed to investigate the eligibility of the company in order to get a visa. However, they realized the company I was accepted in, was not elegible. They gave the letter for the consulate one week before the program started. I had to pay for a priority visa service for over 300 dollars because of their mistake. I had to arrived to the program 10 days after i was supposed to. They promised me first to change the dates of the internship, however, this was a whole bunch of lies, as the housing dates could not be changed, as London Nest was supposed to leave the facilities the day i was supposed to leave on first place. After about 100 calls, which mainly were all unanswered, they offer me a partial refund, however, they only refund me for 5 days, as they were expecting to buy an airplane ticket on the same day that the visa arrived. Then they did not accept me on the Facebook group, and when i was about to ask the refund, they told me that how can I ask for a refund if i did not go to any of the events, which were announced on the Facebook group. Finally, I got a refund for only 5 days, and they payed via paypal, but they did not cover any of the charges, so I got a refund minus paypal charges.
The staff was so rude and unhelpful.

August in Hong Kong

It's hard to summarize my month in Hong Kong in just few lines but I guess I can say it was one of the best, if not the best, decision I made! Upon arrival I knew this was going to be a once in a lifetime experience and I was not disappointed. The people I met, the internship I had, the activities and the on site team were just better than what I expected.
I interned at a medium size finance firm dealing with cross border M&A
There was always something to do with the group and Absolute. We got to visit Bloomberg and Nestle as part of the networking and company visit component of the program. That was very inspiring as we got to learn more about these companies and their recruitment process in Hong Kong. We also visited Tai O village, the Big Buddha...

Nicole and Summer, our on site coordinators are the nicest girls, sharing so much info and love about their country.
We were lucky to meet two of the directors of Absolute, Fredrick and Aurelie, who took time to visit the city and have couple of dinners with us.
I joined this program because my friend did it a year earlier and I am grateful she did recommend it to me. I would recommend it to anyone looking for an amazing summer experience!

Inaccurate and unethical

My internship was not in my stated field. I requested to do finance and was placed in a company that does finance, but was explicitly told that I would be doing marketing. In fact, my title was "marketing intern," so there is no ambiguity there.

I didn't get my visa until OVER a month being in Hong Kong. I felt that the staff was unprofessional, infuriating, and even downright insulting. In a review, I stated that I was disappointed that I would not be doing finance, which they explicitly and unambiguously promised. They told me that I would learn even more by doing marketing because it was outside of my field. Marketing is a fine field, but it has absolutely nothing to do with financial analytics and to pretend like AI was doing me any favors really angered me.

I had to pry for information that I should have known. For example, the information pack that we were told we would receive 6 weeks beforehand. I didn't get it until 2 weeks before. Put another way, I had already paid for the program in full in addition to the flights, but didn't know where I would be living.

Furthermore, the company practically uses false advertising. They talk about doing a Macau trip and other trips around Hong Kong. What they don't tell you is that the Macau trip will cost money on top of the program fee you've already paid. There was a very strong implication that this was already included in the package.

I had a great time in Hong Kong, but I didn't pay Absolute Internship for Hong Kong being a great city. I paid Absolute Internship for an internship in my field, a timely visa, and support throughout the process. If you can get by the fact that all of this can occur to you, you will probably enjoy the trip too.

Response from Absolute Internship

Dear Ian,

Thank you so much for leaving a review here on Go-Overseas.

We are immensely sadden to read your review as we believe your review does not reflect our reputable Hong Kong Internship Program in a fair manner.

We had a fantastic summer in Hong Kong with 97% satisfaction rate from our participants who loved the program.

We arranged your internship placement at one of the world’s leading provider of financial services, a host company where we had placed previous finance interested students to undertake their summer work experience. We typically send a formal job description which explains what the internship entails weeks prior to an intern’s arrival so the intern has sufficient time to review the job description while also getting acquainted with their future supervisor via Skype. These important steps were also completed during your process and communicated to you.

We are very sorry to hear that you found your internship more marketing oriented rather than finance oriented. We would have loved to hear your feedback during the summer and communicated with your supervisor directly. This might have helped to impact your work experience as supervisors that we work with are always eager to hear our feedback.

Once again, we are very sorry to hear that you felt that the information communicated to you was not sufficient enough prior to arriving in Hong Kong.

Our Operations Team works very hard each year to prepare an Information Booklet that we send out via email to our participants with important information such as the location of the housing (both in English and in Chinese) before the program commences. As we are always looking for ways to enhance our program, we would certainly look into the possibility to sending this Information Booklet even earlier for future participants.

Macau is a beautiful city and certainly a top highlight in our program each summer. We are very sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your weekend in Macau. We openly share in our Information Booklet before the program starts that the Macau weekend is an optional fee-based (student friendly price) weekend trip and that the majority of the participants choose to take part of it.
Having read your feedback, we take your comments very seriously and would certainly consider to either make this information clearer or include it entirely for future programs.

Lastly, we’re listening to you and we take your concerns very seriously.

It would have been great to bring your issues up earlier prior to your arrival in Hong Kong when you received your job description or during your time in Hong Kong with one of our Program Coordinators or Program Director so we could have resolved them with your supervisor at your internship.

We sincerely hope you can take the positives from your summer in Hong Kong and learn from your experience abroad. We are more than confident that it will immensely have a positive impact on your future career.

We wish you the best of luck with your future studies and career.

Thank you very much for choosing Absolute Internship.

With our best regards,
Absolute Internship

1 month Shanghai Internship

Shanghai was one of the best experience I have had. Not only academically but socially as well. I gained many valuable experience learning from a new work place and Absolute provided me with networking opportunities and social events which I was extremely satisfied with. Not only did this experience look good on my CV but I also benefitted greatly from this experience and is now more ready stepping into the working industry.

Two Thumbs Up For London

Best experience of my life! Wish I could have stayed longer than a month. Met so many great people and loved going to work each day!!
Awesome to be able to say I have a friend from Australia, Italy, New York, and many more. If I could go back every year, I would. No other experience like it. Visa process is a little frustrating because the Embassy is VERY SLOW on accepting/returning visas even if you do priority shipping but that has nothing to do with Absolute. I am now an ambassador for Absolute Internships because I believe in their vision 100 percent!!

Enriching Experience

My time in Shanghai seems like a blur. Between working and spending every free moment exploring the bustling and vibrant city, there was little time for sleep.

The program introduced me to other students and provided fun organized activities in which we were able to discover more about this unique city.

Overall the experience was a positive one, a unique opportunity to live in a different culture and learn from the peoples traditions, history and everyday habits. The program offered support and encouraged venturing into the city and learning from the rich history of China.

What would you improve about this program?
I think it would have been beneficial if we had been in contact with the reps more prior to arriving in shanghai. After speaking to the students who had come from the UK, I learned that there was definitely a lot more support available to them, (in terms of organizing legal documents, searching for jobs, etc.). I realize the program is still in it's early stages, especially in North America, but I think there is room for improvement in the communication between the student and the program.

Best Summer of my Life

I had such an incredible 2 months while I was interning in Shanghai, China. Absolute Internship provided me with the perfect internship for my field as well as some amazing cultural experiences. The staff was super friendly and helpful and was really there for us throughout the entire program. Having never left the country before the staff made me feel at home and welcomed in a foreign country.

I wanted a Human Resources internship specifically in recruiting and they gave me exactly what I wanted. The company I interned with gave me real responsibilities including conducting interviews by myself. I couldn't have asked for a better internship experience.

What would you improve about this program?
Pick-up from the airport for a longer period of time on the day we arrive.

My London Internship with Absolute Internship

I had a really good experience in my program with Absolute Internship as many other students in my group. The absolute staff was helpful and supportive with whatever I needed. Very lovely team!

I had a fantastic internship in PR and I was always busy, there was really never lack of things to do in London. I had always thought about of coming to the UK to study, but was happy that I ended up interning abroad instead. Overall, it was a really good summer and one of the best summers I have ever had.

My experience with Absolute in Shanghai

The Absolute team were great and I loved my internship placement. Being able to explore China on weekends and in the evening made the experience more enriching. Commuting to work everyday meant I was right in the forefront of Chinese workers trying to get to work. Living and socialising in the hotel with the other interns made the experience a lot of fun.

What would you improve about this program?
Being able to choose my own room mate
