My experience in Madrid

My experience in Madrid was unique and exciting. At first, I must admit I was a little nervous because it was the first time I´d go this far away from home and to a real job. But ever since the beginning, the Intern Group was very attentive and they made me feel safe. When I got here, I realized every one was feeling this way too which is awesome because they are open to meet new people. I love how The Intern Group organized several unique activities as a way to get to know Madrid, its culture, and other interns. I am returning to Mexico with a big smile on my face and extreme satisfaction because this program exceeded my expectations. I would like to give a special thanks to Lalita, Beatriz, Laura, and Carlos. You guys are the best and you are always there for the interns when they need! I would without a doubt, recommend interning in Madrid.

What would you improve about this program?
I would not change a thing about my experience, keep doing what you do Intern Group!

The most rewarding experience of my life

Originally, I applied for a two month internship in Dublin without thinking much of it, I just wanted a reason to justify going abroad for a few months, and doing an internship seemed like the perfect way to do it. Little did I know I was about to partake in the most incredible, rewarding experience of a lifetime. From the moment I stepped foot in Dublin I was welcomed with warm, open arms, everyone I encountered was so lovely and helped me feel at home almost instantly. Over the next two months I engaged in what I believe was the perfect work-life balance, feeling rewarded with both the experience and opportunities I was gaining in my professional life, as well as the cultural and social experience that took place outside of the office. Despite only being in Dublin for a short period of time, I made friend and connections that I truly believe will last a lifetime, and got to witness so much of the beautiful cities, country towns and scenery that Ireland has to offer...I was constantly in awe. I am so thankful for my experience with The Intern Group and would highly recommend this program to anyone who is looking to gain both professional and cultural experience in a fun, laid-back environment, and can proudly say that thanks to this program I am already now growing in my career and building a strong path toward my future. If I could relive my time in Dublin all over again, I would do it in a heartbeat.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
Perhaps it’s not that unfamiliar depending on where you come from, but we don’t eat Black Pudding in Australia...and I ate it in Ireland. For breakfast. That’s one thing I definitely don’t recommend. It’s pigs blood.

Life Changing Experience

I walked into this internship with the expectation of gaining international work experience but what came along with this experience exceeded my expectations.

I interned at a financial firm for investment banking and although it had made me realize that it was something I did not want to do it had allowed me to immerse myself in the Japanese workplace and taught me the importance of working with a team and collaborative work. Even though I had no background in finance, my colleagues were supportive and gave me a reasonable amount of work that I was able to do that allowed me to develop my Japanese skills.

Although the sharehouse was out of the way and a bit dirty sometimes, I had made life-long friends with other interns and locals living there. The Tokyo program internship coordinators Shaina and Airi went above and beyond to ensure we all had a great experience by organizing many events that allowed us to explore Tokyo and were always there whenever we needed help. They will forever be one of my closest friends I have made here during my stay.

Being in Tokyo and traveling around Japan gave me a sense of who I want to be and where I want to be. Towards the end of my program, I realize that Tokyo is where I want to start up my career and my life as well.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Go out and meet new people and explore everything Japan has to offer! Don't limit yourself to just Tokyo, it's okay to ask a couple of days off work for weekend trips to explore other parts of Japan. Enjoy every moment of your time there because it will fly by.

An Unforgettable, Un-missable Experience!

I spent 3 months interning in Medellín, Colombia, with the Intern Group. It has been one of the best experiences of my life - so much so that even though I haven't left Medellín yet, I'm already planning on coming back!

The Intern Group was very professional and supportive throughout my entire internship. They placed me in a law firm that was absolutely PERFECT for me! I was able to work in a field that I enjoy doing, with workmates who have become like a second family to me. I learned so much about the international legal field, as well as how to adapt to different work cultures.

My accomodation was amazing. I specifically asked to be placed in an apartment with other Colombians in order to improve my Spanish, and the Intern Group found me an apartment with the best roommates I could possibly ask for. The view was beautiful, and the location so convenient - we lived right above 2 supermarkets, and the metro station was a short walk away. The apartment complex also had a pool, jacuzzis, and a gym! It was a luxurious place to live in.

The Intern Group planned social events and professional development workshops for us, and were always there for us when we needed any slight thing. These events were always enjoyable, and allowed us to really get into Colombian culture. As a group of interns, we were a close, tight-knit family. It is a wonderful feeling to leave Medellín knowing that I now have life-long friends from all over the world.

Overall, the Intern Group organised the most incredible internship, and because of them, I was able to really enjoy my time in Colombia. I learned so much academically and professionally, and have gained so many close friends. I wholeheartedly recommend this program!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
My advice to future travelers on this program is: keep an open mind and an open heart. Always be willing to try new things, to meet new people, and to put yourself out there! The Colombian culture and the people are so warm and welcoming, and the best way to enjoy it is to dive headfirst and really live it. The first step you should take is to the step that takes you outside of your comfort zone.

The opportunity of a life time

I recently embarked on an internship in Dublin with the intern group. I was welcomed with open arms by my employer and my intern director. The program is well organised and great value for money. The internship completely exceeded all my expectations! Incredible housing and location, and the extra social activities outside of work. Dublin is a small and interesting city with plenty of night life and something for everyone. Full of Viking history and exciting people. The cost of living was extremely reasonable and I always felt safe. Overall it was an absolute blast and would give anything to do it all again!! I would absolutely and have recommended this to all my friends. The people and the beautiful scenic Dublin environment made this experience one I’ll never forget and have learnt so many transferable and practical skills I look forward putting into practice into a professional workplace after completing my degree!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Do as much as you can and enjoy every moment! And if you ever find it tough you have plenty of support and people to support you.

Bangkok Internship

My time in Bangkok has been amazing. The food, the people, the support truly unmatched! I truly love it and would definitely consider moving here for full time! The intern group did a great job with finding an internship placement that was perfect for me! I have had several internships in the states but this is by far the best internship I have ever had. When I first arrived they made it easy transporting from the airport to my accommodations. In addition Tarn the coordinator for Bangkok is always there when I need her and willing to provide any tips, tricks and suggestions. She is more than a coordinator but also become more like a friend or older sister. This had been the most rewarding experience of my life. I highly recommend! If you have any questions or want to hear more about my experience please follow me on IG @simply__dv or Facebook (Devana Turner)

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
I would say bring more money than you think you need. Unfortunately I was in the hospital for a series of bites. That visit took a chunk out of my savings for the trip.

Amazing!

The Tokyo internship experience met and exceeded all my expectations beyond belief! I chose Tokyo as it is one of the three global cities (Tokyo, London and New York) and thought it would offer the most challenges and new experiences (compared to other English speaking countries) and it did not disappoint. I was placed in an investment banking internship position and it was one of the most rewarding yet challenging experiences. All my local Japanese co-workers put in a lot of effort to make me feel welcomed and gave me a reasonable amount of work to keep me occupied yet not too stressed! The office was located in central Tokyo allowing me to go exploring after work everyday. I was lucky enough to experience the “local commute” and catch the squishy trains on the way to work most mornings which added to the authenticity of the whole experience. My room in the shared accommodation was bigger than expected and although the housing was a bit out of the way I wasn’t planning on spending a lot of my time at home anyway and happily spent my time exploring Tokyo.

I made long lasting friendships with all the interns and locals I was living with as well as the local internship managers who I considered more as friends than managers. The managers Shiana and Airi constantly took us out to new cool locations and arranged lots of plans for all the interns to meet up after work, really great environment.

Two days after my conclusion from the InternGroup I managed to obtain another internship at home and I only got the job due to my international experience! I highly recommend the InternGroup in Tokyo not only for the international experience you’ll gain, but the challenges you’ll face, people you meet and confidence you’ll earn is priceless.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Make the most of every opportunity and every day go exploring after work! It’ll be over before you know it.

One of my best experiences ever!

I've been doing internship in Bangkok for a month and it will take until May 2nd week. The experiences I got from the intern are really amazing and more than I expected. Even feel tired sometimes as this is my very first step in working life, I found it's fun to learn what I want with friendly culture and staff. The intern group has perfectly allocated the company which would be the best suit for me. This is where I could learn not only my first preference career field. The services and facilities provided by The Intern Group are perfect and our organizer is really kind and takes care of us. The program fee is really affordable comparing to others organisations. Almost everything like accommodation, transportation and accessibility with public transportations, etc. is pretty convenient for me so far. I would say I did the best choice and would definitely recommend.

Life changing experience and new opportunities

I had to fight a little to get more options and finally land on the internship I was placed at, but it was fate - a perfect fit.

I interned at a digital advertising agency startup with a small ~10 member international team that spoke English, French, and Japanese. They gave me so much support and resources to quickly learn about digital advertising and I really think I grew and developed my skills.

The sharehouse, while far and often dirty (shared kitchens are never fun) allowed me to meet some really great people and have some travel-buddies. I think I made some life-long friends there.

The Tokyo program internship coordinators, Ayane, Airi, and Shaina were all truly amazing. They really made the experience go above and beyond expectations. They always made sure everyone was comfortable and taken care of, but also organized a ton of events for us to explore and immerse in Japanese culture and cuisine. I had such an amazing time and I am happy to call them all friends.

Because of the support and encouragement, I am going to come back to Tokyo very soon to look for work and start up life!

What would you improve about this program?
Setting expectations about share house options, conditions, commute times and how packed the trains get.

Also I had to email back and forth so many times and even get my parents involved (which I hated doing) in order for the intern group to provide more internship options. Again, once I had a few options I could choose one and it ended up being amazing - but that was an initial struggle.

my 3 months in Shanghai

for the first month I was largely trying to orientate myself in Shanghai so I didn't go to any intergroup events. that being said the intergroup was still useful as they provided me with my simcard card and my subway card. it also was great that they registered me with the Shanghai police shortly after I arrived, as I was not aware of that being a necessary part of coming to Shanghai.

the second month I went to an intergroup excursion event on a Saturday with two other interns, Tommy and a guide. through the event I met Mason, another intern from Australia who I became friends with. we explored tongli water village for most of the day, some of it via canoe. after finishing lunch there we visited an impressive buddhist monastery. it was a very fun day in which I first got to properly experience some of the amazing sights in china.

I also attended a number of smaller events at different restaurants and bars, many of which I added to my list of faves I revisited in future. another fun event I remember well was at a sports-bar where I played dodge ball for three hours.

finally near the end of the second month I explored the clubbing scene in Shanghai with Tommy and Olivia as guides, which was something I always wanted to try, but had never known where to go in order to get that experience. it was far louder than anything I have experienced in Australia, a fun night of dancing and drinks but definitely something u wouldn't do often if u want to avoid permanent hearing damage.

during the last month I am one of the few interns left in Shanghai, so I have just been to a few choice restaurants with Tommy. during this last month I also started attending free wework exercise classes with Olivia and Tommy. I wish I knew about these earlier, but I was often to focussed on my internship to pay much else attention.

Both Tommy and Olivia have helped me in numerous ways big and small, whether its getting me my simcard or my subway card, helping me find Chinese classes and getting a good deal with them, helping me explore the Shanghai surrounds and giving me the opportunity to experience the best of china's restaurants and bars. the intergroup made the process of coming toad staying in Shanghai much easier and more fun than if I had simply tried to organize my internship by myself, and I would recommend it my friends in future if they were looking for something good they could put on their resume whilst at the same time have fun doing it.
