Rewarding experience in a new city

I have been working in an internship for start-up company that specialises in a digital marketing platform. This has been particularly exciting, as I have had the opportunity to work in a close knit team as they prepare to launch their brand new product which is a comprehensive guide to Chinese social media.

I see Hong Kong as a city of contrast, an unique blend of East and West, a city of diversity where the new and the old meet at every turn. It is a unique juxtaposition of opposing elements, with skyscraper jungles and forested mountain slopes, noisy jam-packed streets and tranquil bays and islands, wet markets and designer shopping malls, and so on. The Intern Group has helped me experience a great work culture, surrounded with unique fellow interns from a range of cultures, and all the while supported by a great team of support staff who have hosted a variety of engaging activities and trips.

This has certainly been a unique two months, in which I have experienced a lot of growth as an individual. I will certainly return to my home in Australia with a refreshed perspective on my life, as well as my career goals. I have learnt an increased sense of independence, and unlocked an adventurous side in my personality I was not aware existed. I have made friends which I expect to know for a very long time.

Definitely Worth It

I was always anxious starting an Internship in Spain, not only did I speak no Spanish but the culture was so different to what I was used to in Australia. Also, it was pretty daunting moving to a totally foreign country and knowing absolutely no one... Thankfully, the team at the InternGroup knew what it is like and were extremely good at making you feel not only comfortable and confident but safe as well.

From the moment I stepped off the plane I knew I had nothing to worry about. A man picked me up in a large limousine like van (which was pretty cool) and drove me straight to my appartment in Ventas, right next to the bull fighting ring. I made my way upto my appartment, which was nice and reasonably sized, and met my knew housemates. Luckily, my housemates were awesome and I transitioned into life in Spain very easily. We had a meet and great on my second day and I met the other interns (who I would be spending the next three months with), which was great as you straight away make a nice social network. The reason I am saying all this is because first impressions are everything and after my first day in Madrid I knew I was going to love it. The people at The Intern Group were so helpful professionally and socially.

Professionally my internship was great, the people at work were friendly, fun and welcoming. They understood if I was ever late (whether it was because the metro had problems or because I stayed at the cervezeria too long the night before...) and when I didn't show up to work one monday after missing my flight and getting stuck in Barcelona Sunday night, they emailed to make sure I was ok. They knew I wanted to do plenty of travel while I was in Europe and they were extremely accomodating.

Lalita is brilliant, always on standby if you have any problems and eager to help out. Such an enthusiastic personality, I don't know how she does it. I would love to know what she puts in her coffee because I need some... Whenever you see her it brightens your day and makes you excited to be there.

Irene is gorgeous, she provides us with social experiences and reccomendations of places to go/things to do in Madrid. She is young, fun and energetic plus knows A LOT about Madrid, I could listen to her talk for ever. Every week she organizes social gatherings and if you want something to do just message her on facebook, she is always so eager to let you know what's on and is one of the nicest peope I have ever met. My experience certainly would have been different if she wasn't there.

Anyway if anyone is actually still reading this and wondering if the experience is worth it, I say do it. You will have a great time, meet some amazing people and make some experiences you will never forget. I didn't think I would write a review this long but I'm still here and my fingers are starting to hurt from typing so I might wrap it up now. If, like me, you are from somewhere far away like Australia make sure you do some travelling. Everything is so close and so different, you fly a couple of hours to Switzerland or Austria for example and it's a whole new world. Don't get too caught up in going out every night, there's so much so see.

Big thanks to The Intern Group for everything, I will never forget this experience!

Awesome time in Medellin

I had an awesome experience with the Intern Group in Medellin, Colombia. Being at the beginning of my studies at Uni I did not have anything specifically I needed out of a job so I did not go in with any specific needs. The job I was placed with was at a University and I loved it. The people I worked with were great and became some of my closest friends. I will say that anyone that wants to work here has to realize that things work slower here and in many cases you are responsible for finding things to do. If you sit back and do nothing likely that is what you will continue to do. As far as living in Medellin, I would recommend it to anyone. Despite its negative reputation, if one follows common sense then one can pretty easily avoid any problems. This being not walking home alone at night or going to the sketchier areas of the city without someone who knows the area. Having travelled in many cities around the world, I can attest that this was nowhere near unsafe. The nightlife is incredible and there are always things to do. There is a great expat community that live there and Colombian people are some of the nicest you will meet. On top of that scene there are good dining options and everything is much cheaper than you would find in Europe or the USA. Finally, the Intern Group team were truly awesome. They always went out of their way to help out when I had things like Visa problems and they would check in to see how my internship was going. They also organized some good activities and trips that were fun and allowed me to make good friends among my fellow interns. My housing situation was stellar although I had the nicest apartment in the program. I had my own room and bathroom on top of being on the 18th floor with a great view of Poblado. In addressing the price of the program, it may seem expensive but I found it cheaper than any other options at my university. I personally feel like the money was worth it as it allowed me to do this fairly last minute and not have to worry about figuring out an internship, housing, visa issues and such. In conclusion, Medellin is an incredible city that it still somewhat under the radar so now is a great time to go. The Intern Group is great and very helpful, and the accommodations are great. I would recommend this program to anyone who can and will definitely be returning as soon as I can!

Social

I would like to briefly discuss my satisfaction at the way the social scene has been handled here by both staff (namely dicky) and other interns, as well as the city as a whole. I was quite nervous upon first meeting the interns and wasn't sure how social I would be able to be. Dicky was exceptional in making me feel comfortable, wanted, and accepted when interacting at events. I have enjoyed the wide range of events in this program, from the night life to the hikes to the day trips, each has been well managed, unique, and great fun.

What would you improve about this program?
More sport activities, more professional workshops

Look no further than the Intern Group

I applied for the Intern Group's London program hoping to achieve two goals: 1) gain valuable working experience, while 2) exploring a new country/culture. I was able to accomplish both goals thanks, in large part, to the Intern Group staff.

My experience living and interning in London significantly contributed to my personal and professional growth. The staff at the Intern Group were eager to help during every step in the process from my initial interview with them until the day I left London. It can be difficult to secure a position with a company that fits your interests and goals as well as find housing with similarly minded people in a great location, in a different country. The Intern Group helped me accomplish both. I quickly felt at home in London thanks, in large part, to their local staff. They were eager to help with all concerns I had which, made for a smooth and enjoyable experience.

I strongly recommend the Intern Group's London program to anyone considering living and interning in London.

Adventure of a lifetime

Simply put, my decision to complete an internship in Hong Kong with the Intern Group after graduating from university was the best decision I ever made. From the organised and efficient application process to my amazing and ever-entertaining programme coordinators - it was a truly unforgettable experience.

I was placed at a travel and technology start-up company that from the get go set me interesting tasks and exciting responsibilities. Not only did I learn valuable and transferable skills but was able to make professional connections to help my long term career. As someone who had never been to Hong Kong, I was tentative to make the move to a place I had no idea what to expect. However, after experiencing the vibrant culture, food, exploring the mountain trails, idyllic beaches and sampling the incredible nightlife, Hong Kong has easily become one of my favourite cities. Of course, what made my time even more special were the people I met, from those I worked with, to my fellow interns with whom I’ve made hilarious memories and lasting friendships.
So, for anyone looking for the adventure of a lifetime and the opportunity to gain work experience whilst travelling, then I not only recommend the Intern Group but actively encourage you to apply!

Sam's Intern Group Review

The intern group is a great way to go overseas and gain experience. I would say however, that it is very costly, so make sure you are right on top of your budget. The program staff are very nice and helpful. When it comes to the internship itself, it seemed like a bit of a luck of the draw. Because my internship was definitely not the best in terms of the work I was doing and the learning experience. However some other interns (my friends) got really good ones. That being said the firm I was at, was a very cool firm to work at in terms of culture and friendliness.
All in all I would definitely recommend the Intern Group.

What would you improve about this program?
The program could be improved in terms of timing. I was admitted towards the beginning of 2016 but I was not actually placed until a month before I was leaving. Leaving me very little time to sort out a VISA and book flights. Which was at complete odds for the pressure to pay the deposit on time which we were told was so that the placement team could get started right away. So I would definitely recommend quicker placement to help the intern book cheaper flights and have more peace of mind over their arrangements.

A Dream Came True

First of all, do forgive the clichéd start just alike any testimony that is bound to be infused with an outburst of positivity, but, I still can't help but say:

'Where do I even start?'

This opportunity, first and foremost, came to me unexpectedly at a time I needed to step out of the place I was at. I needed a head-start in my career field of interest, work in my interests was the hardest thing to find and odd jobs were a necessity to survive. But most of all, I needed to fulfil that restless travel bug within me to explore and create new experiences. I didn't want perfect, nor did I ask for the best package. I just hoped for new, adventures, memories and experiences to take with me in what I can garner in skills, and to further grow as a person. And with that, never had I expected to have gotten all from the moment I was told Intern Madrid wanted me onboard Less than a year later, without the slightest hesitation will I say that those three months spent in Madrid will always be one of the most impactful and unforgettable highlights of my life :))

Not only had I gained so much in my internship with working as a Social Media Professional at Tilo Motion (digital marketing agency) and garnering so much scope and beyond with what I do, I had also widened my networks and made friends even with the older age group in the office too. Going to work full-time was definitely beneficial in my learning and having a great team to work with everyday just made it all the better! Not only that, I've met some of the most wonderful souls in the Intern program and external social activities that I'm so proud and happy to still have as friends (and family!) even with the distance and own individual pathways. There were some great bonds made in the various time lapses throughout my stay in Madrid and people I've met in social and unexpected circumstances along the way; and they still hold close to my heart.

In terms of logistics, the accommodation (4 bedroom apartment) provided was pretty decent in a cute old Spanish neighbourhood and the location itself (between Manuel Becerra and Ventas metro stations) was quite convenient seeing its close proximity to many shops, cheap eateries, parks and sights. I've also enjoyed the various activities planned for us interns like the Toledo trip, Flamenco show, Bernabeu Stadium, rooftop bar views, food market and churro nights..(and the list goes on). Really, if you want to make the most of your stay, do make the effort to attend all or most of the events organised, as it'll only encourage you to see more of the amazing vibrant city of Madrid. Honestly, there's never enough time to cover everything, no matter how much you do. Hence why I'll be back again one day!

One thing's for sure..
From the moment you enter Intern Madrid, and the second you leave for home or other ventures, you can be well assured that you will be well taken care of! Lalita and Thalassa are incredible beings with the biggest of hearts :) It's so nice to know you're not alone and they're the smiling faces and mother hens you can turn to for any enquiries and worries, and always always, for a good chat. I certainly miss their genuine care and affection, and how close we've all gotten. It's lovelier to see that we still keep in touch con much cariño, even when away from each other. Thus, it's also evident that once you're a part of this familia, there's no way out ;)

At end, if an experience is what you need..the kind that is enriching, fulfilling and overwhelming in many spectrums, with moments that could entail downsides which will help challenge you to learn and thus grow stronger from, and incredulous upsides that leave you smiling in nostalgia, with many many friends made from all walks of life...those kinds packaged as a whole...you can find that when you take your next step with Intern Madrid. You have an adventure, work experience and a fantastic lot of beautiful hearts and faces waiting for you..

España is waiting. Gift yourself this chance :) <3

Couldn't Have Been Any Better

I interned at a fashion PR agency in Northwest London! I learned a lot about myself in a professional and personal sense as I got to experience another country for the first time and make friends from across the US and the world. The Intern Group was absolutely wonderful. They were incredibly helpful and prompt to answer my many questions. They made sure I was comfortable and at ease without being overbearing. They were organized, professional, and eager to assist in any way I needed. I am so thankful I was able to make an absolute dream come true to complete my degree and this opportunity was possible through the Intern Group.

Best experience of my life

This was the greatest experience of my entire life. Weekly meet ups, meeting new friends from all over the world, and learning the most about who I am. I would do anything to go back and do it all once more. It has been 2 months since I left and I still think about it everyday. Never did I think these 3 months would have this large of an affect on my life. Besides the social aspect of this program, my internship was great. They were really flexible with me and their main goal was to make sure I was learning from the experience. As long as you voice your opinion with someone on the team, you are sure to have an incredible time.
