ESL Teacher

This agency is AMAZING! Amazing is even an understatement I think. I can't thank thank this agency enough, and now I know exactly why it has such a high review online. My recruiter Jayne Donabie has got to be the sweetest person in the world. She was caring, understanding, and determined to help me get my dream job. She's amazing at what she does and always immediately provided me with every answer I need. Not only that, she was constantly checking up on me, informing me about schools that were trying to get in contact with me. She made the entire process as smooth as butter. In less than 3 days, I'd already secured 3 interviews from different schools. In addition, the schools are legitimate schools with reputable names and generous salaries. Unlike other agencies, Teaching Nomads never throws random jobs at you to apply for, only those they believe best suit your preference. They will ask you for your preferences and before they send your applications to schools, they will ask you for your permission. For those of you who are trying to get an ESL job in China, or anywhere else in the world, I highly recommend Teaching Nomads!

My One-Month TEFL Experience

My course started from Feb. 27th to Mar. 23rd. During this period, I have learnt a foreign language, studied a set of TEFL materials, put my teaching skills in practice, got feedback from the trainers and my classmates, and I have made friends with people around the world. To sum up, I have improved a lot in my teaching skills with effective feedback given from the trainers and had lots of fun with people around me.

A positive learning experience

Learned so much about the different teaching styles and how to adapt myself and my lessons to different levels. Had a great time teaching Chinese children and being in Shanghai, even though stepping into a classroom of 40 rowdy students could be very tough! I learned a lot about my personal teaching style and the way the Chinese students learn. The trainers were great fun, really supportive and helpful - not just with teaching but also with getting settled in to a new country. A great experience and had lots of help with my job search. Can't wait to start working.

What would you improve about this program?
Teaching a variety of different age groups, such as adults, teenagers and kindergarten students.

Recommend - This really sets you up nicely

This generally gave me everything that I needed/was looking for in order to teach in China (Shanghai). I really didn't want to do an online course because that is a common phenomenon, so it offered no competitive edge in the job market. It may have been a cheaper option but you get what you pay for. Actually teaching real children in real schools/centers (having never taught in a classroom before) was sometimes stressful but it was an invaluable experience that was even fun at times! Most importantly, it impressed prospective employers at interview. The people running the show went the extra mile, buying food and drink for us, answering questions and helping us with things that weren't even related to the course material (sometimes at unsociable hours) etc. Coming to China from the UK was really scary and there is so much that you don't even think about so this level of support was beyond useful. The people were just really nice and that is worth a lot. To cap it all off they even sorted out legalizing etc my certificate which is a huge/very expensive pain otherwise.

What would you improve about this program?
Keeping on top of students to make sure that every step that needs to be completed is done before the end of the course to stop lots of things pilling up at the end.

Some more teaching of smaller classes with less/more advanced kids would be nice as the teaching mainly involved larger/less advanced classes (a lot of the jobs that students will go on do will involve smaller classes etc).

Great job Teacher's link!

Thank you for breaking the course sections into manageable chunks. It was very user friendly, and without complications. Also, the staff were prompt in their responses to my emails and answered any questions I had. I would definitely recommend your course to anyone trying to acquire a TEFL certificate! Actually, I've already recommended your course to my friends. Thank you again for helping me achieve this goal.

A Good Experience

Teaching Nomad was helpful with the whole process! I got my TEFL through them, and they were quick to respond to my emails and instructive when I had questions. I had a job lined up in China though a friend, but I got cold feet, so I emailed Teaching Nomad, and they had me connected to several jobs in just a couple of weeks. They acted as a conduit between myself and the school during the visa process as well.

What would you improve about this program?
I wish that they had warned me how difficult it is to get to China; I spent several months waiting for my visa to process in various stages and spent around $2000. At one point had had to fly to the consulate to get fingerprinted.
Response from Teaching Nomad

Hey Wendy,

Thanks for the feedback! I just checked and it looks like you got hired right after the Chinese government introduced all the new criminal background check/degree/TEFL authentication requirements. Most schools and visa agencies now know exactly what is required to process your work permit/visa, and we actually run background checks and do the authentication of documents for US nationals in our Denver office these days. If it's any consolation, you don't have to go through all of this again if you switch positions in China!

Great Experience

From start to finish Teaching Nomad was there for me, responsive, and kept me up to date with all of the work they were doing to get me linked with a great school. They were great advocates for me and matched me with a school that fit me well. Really enjoyed the service provided and could not recommend them more for all the tireless work they did. The process took roughly 2 months, first with a screening interview, and then a number of interviews with hiring managers, and finally an offer. Throughout the process the recruiters at Teaching Nomad made sure to keep talking with the school on my behalf and make sure my application was moving forward to an offer.

My Experience with Teaching Nomad

I was initially leery about using an agency to help place me in China but the support and resources I received were excellent. In the end, "your success is their success". The advice and feedback was very helpful. Also, the TEFL option I used through the provider was easy to use and progress to completion. It has also proven very useful in my new environment. The follow-up support after placement has also been very appreciated.

What would you improve about this program?
Obtaining the Visa was done in coordination with the local staff at the school. It was complicated because the Visa issuing process varies from country to country, I was basically on my own to figure it out. It took many months of research, calls, visits to consular and 3rd party agencies before it was complete. This is in part due to the fact the Chinese government has recently changed their processes.

Great Program and Helpful Staff

I enjoyed this course so I want to thank Teacher Link for providing it.
The course has a lot of information which I think is must for everyone who wishes to become a TEFL certified trainer. I was reluctant at the beginning to complete an online course, but soon after starting it I realized that the course is no joke. It is a comprehensive course that is provides a lot of essential information for future teachers.
The course is packed with videos that were filmed during real classes and it really offers an insight of what it takes to be a teacher. The instructor always promptly answered all my questions and it provided constructive feedback.
I am confident now that I have what it takes to be a successful TEFL trainer.
I loved the course and I want to congratulate the staff, especially Ginger, for being professional and helpful.
Well done!

Teaching Nomad Assistance

Since making my decision to teach abroad the recruiter that has been assigned to me worked diligently to answer my questions and also locate positions that would align with my skill sets. Ali which is my recruiter name did not have problem with me constantly calling or emailing her to help me with my nervousness and confusion that dealt with picking the right positions to apply for and also helping me prep for an interview. I am really excited that I decided to work through them for this process.
