TEFL

I loved the class videos which gave me more practical knowledge about lesson planning and classroom management. I liked that each chapter were set in different ways carrying over learning material which didn't make it boring at all. Its excellent to be able to download the videos and chapters for future reference, which i will definitely use! The review questions at the end of each chapter definitely helped to be less anxious about the final test. To be able to login and logout and still take off where you've left, is very good especially to be focused and not to be forced to finish everything at once. The instructions were very clear and the videos were great examples. The feedback regarding your lesson plans is well constructed and easy to understand and use. The support team from the program is very efficient and constructive

What would you improve about this program?
I would give more options for straight forward answers. Some of the options were much alike and confused me which lowered my end result.

Excellent Experience!

My placement specialist Darrah was fantastic! I felt like I was able to be relaxed over the course of finding a teaching job in China (which happened very quickly with Darrah's help). The overall experience was painless and every person I had any contact with at Teaching Nomad was professional and very supportive. They really do walk you through every element of the application process and finding the school that's right for you. I really could not recommend them more for teaching overseas. The school they found for me was almost a perfect fit right off the jump. They clearly have a very good relationship with the schools they work with to place teachers. My teaching position is starting in Shanghai on May 25th 2019 and I could not be more excited!

Good course for teachers getting started in China or other countries

I am an ESL teacher in China who completed this TEFL course the summer before I moved to China to begin my new teaching job. This course was very convenient as I had been living in a different country and was already preparing to move to China when I needed to take this course, and I recommend it for teachers in a similar "transition period" situation who may not have the time or funds to complete an extended in-person TEFL course.

I found the course convenient, useful, and well-maintained. It was a good choice for me as I prepared to make the move to China to teach and needed to clearly document my qualification for my job. The course material is practical, and there was an appropriate amount of material for someone like me looking to pick up a qualification quickly but also earn a real, useful qualification.

TEFL course with Teaching Nomad

I can't talk enough about the team of professionals Teaching Nomad staff is composed of. The Teaching Nomad experience started even before I arrived in Shanghai. I was provided with accurate information about the course, work and life once here and more. There was continuous follow up and assistance till I got here.

Once here, transportation was provided to take me to where I was staying.

Once here. They made sure that my papers were in order. I had help whenever I needed it. Not just class time but setting up my Bank account, school, permits, SIM cards car and coffee, tea, lunch. I have never seen such hospitality.

The instructions included in-class instructions as well as teaching actual students with up to two Teaching Nomad coaches. The best kind of instruction one can hope for. I was able to teach from just a few students to a full class of students. I was surrounded with Teaching Nomad teachers at all times at times more than one teacher to coach and point out what I could do better. Trainers were available at all times. I reached out to Teaching Nomad staff at all times. They responded, regardless of time of day or day of the week.

I would like to mention a few of the names of the people I was taught and coached by.

Ginger. Thank you for being there at all times. Day, night, weekdays and weekends. From start to finish including searching for a job. Ginger goes way above and way beyond anyone I have come across. Ginger made sure every aspect of being here and being successful was his main goal. He sacrificed his spare time and sleep just to make sure even my personal affairs were in order. Ginger does not wait for someone to ask, he knows what’s needed and constantly offered his assistance. Saying Ginger goes above and beyond what’s expected is a major under-statement.

Nik. I can’t thank Nik enough. He constantly coached, guided with patience and knowledge. Nik followed up closely and advised to make sure not only I succeeded but thrived as well. He was always within reach and has a way of making complicated things simple. He is constantly encouraging, coaching, provides a wealth of information and encouragement that can Doug. The coaching, and advice and encouragement Doug provided was invaluable. Doug has a way of making mistakes into learning opportunities to make one do better. Doug’s assistance did not end with teaching, he provided me with several opportunities to see hockey games, offered to assist with finding an apartment and had good information on anything I wanted to know.

I just mentioned the few people I had an opportunity and the honor to work with. There were more and they were all very helpful and happy to assist in any way.

Thank you Teaching Nomad! It was truly and honor to have been taught by you.

Keep up the good work!

My experience of the online TEFL course

I found the teacher link very easy to use. The course has a lot of supporting videos which assists a candidate by giving them a clearer sense of what to expect when they teach abroad. The layout of the chapters through the course gives you a good sense of progression, and this allows you to map out for yourself how you wish to proceed. The quizzes after each chapter allow you to acknowledge your progress, and serve well to test your knowledge on the chapter completed. Overall, the course flows really well and is very thorough. If need be, support from staff is also available. This course has been a very positive experience, and has shared a lot with me. Thank you to Ginger, for all the support and feedback given to me during the course. I really appreciated it.

Outstanding service

The process of looking for a job in China is not only time consuming, it is daunting because you have no idea if the school's sales pitch is true. Having worked in a training centre that oversold, I was weary and sceptical of landing another ine of those!

Being recommended by a friend to Teaching Nomad was the best thing ever! My placement consultant, Lauren, was super involved at every process. What's also great about the agency is that they do their best to match you as closely as possible to what you want, in an area you desire and so forth!

They also have occasional job fairs that sets them apart. There you get to potentially be set up with an interview, meet-and-greet potential employers and get as much information as needed! That's where I managed to secure my next job and I am more than happy with the school!

Teaching Nomad is reputable, knows what they are doing and gives the best service!

What would you improve about this program?
The program doesn't need any improvement in my opinion. They have done a lot of work in understanding this market and needs analysis of teachers.

Teaching Nomad paved our way to UAE!

Lauren from Teaching Nomad connected to me for teaching opportunities in UAE on a Saturday morning January 5 2019, submitted our documents via email in the afternoon (mine and my wife's), scheduled the interview the next day Sunday afternoon, and in the evening signed the initial offer as couple teachers in a school in UAE! That was incredibly fast and I would like to commend Lauren for staying late at night to make sure we get a place for the interview. All these things and we didn't spend a cent for the process. Also, I find the website very helpful, it answers most of the concerns like about the schools, visa, benefits, and about the transition process of moving in a new country. Thank you teaching nomad for opening this amazing opportunity!

Great experience

The experience was unique because it was something I’d never done before and I wasn’t too sure what I was letting myself into! Therefore this was a good oppurtunity to learn something new and see if it was for me. I learnt a lot of new skills and ideas which has really helped with going forward in a job. However, future participants should be aware that although it’s a fairly laid back course with a friendly atmosphere and lots of support there is also quite a lot of work involved in completing the portfolio so time management is key. A useful tip would be that if you’re completely new to teaching like I was, dont be nervous and assume from the start that you will be bad, once you start you completely forget about anyone else in the room that may be observing and realise that it is a lot easier than expected. It was good that we had teaching experience in two different types of schools, one with around 15-20 students in a class and one with around 40 students. This taught us different types of class management which is a necessity in any sized class. Plus it was good to see and experience a different part of Shanghai.

What would you improve about this program?
This course could maybe be improved by possibly arranging a ‘team building’/ ‘get to know eachother’ evening the night before. Or maybe a little bit more assistance with accommodation and surrounding areas could have been provided.

Amazing experience with Ali Jaramillo

Ali did a wonderful job with providing me with information at every step and making sure I was feeling comfortable with the process. I wouldn't have received my job offer if it wasn't for Teaching Nomad, they made the process so much easier and I felt reassured in the schools I was applying to. The job that I received was from a government school and Ali always made sure my questions were answered and if I felt like something was not right, she would always be willing to provide me with more information.

I also took the TEFL course which was useful in some aspects as I did learn much about teaching but for me, the presentations and videos made the course as interactive as possible and for the price, it is a very good course.

I would definitely advise using Teaching Nomad to anyone who wants to teach in China. It will make the process so much easier.

What would you improve about this program?
I cannot see an area in which this needs to be improved.

Ms Twala

The course was very informative, inspiring and insightful. It stimulated my intellect and shaped my role as an educator. I now have knowledge about classroom management. I gained vast knowledge about learning theories and how to incorporate the elements from different theories into my lesson plan.

The TEFL course provided insightful information about the role of the teacher as a manager, organiser, motivator, facilitator, tutor and co learner. These different roles illustrate how the teacher is the number one instrument to learners and how each role is vital in their learning process. I loved watching the videos as it provided me with guide lines . I loved how the children interacted with their peers and how open they were to speaking English and they respected the no Chinese rule. Most of the activities enhanced communication in real social contexts.

What would you improve about this program?
The program can be improved by showing videos of learners who struggle or who know no English. The learners in most videos seemed well advanced and rehearsed. The program can improve by showing some difficulties that a teacher can encounter especially on the first day. However overall the course was fanastic
