Learning to teach in Shanghai

I was very nervous about doing the course. I have been to Shanghai once before but that was for one week. I was not sure how I would do for four weeks. Everyone was helpful when they could help. I had trouble with getting my phone to work and they was able to help me with that. The instructions to get to where to classes were being held was good and they even had pictures of certain parts as you got close to help find it.
The course will start off a little slow but it will speed up fast. That may sound bad but it is a good thing in that you will be busy working on actually teaching students as well. Even if you are scared or unsure teach at least one class. It can be scary but once you try you get a better idea what it is like and you may like it. I was nervous but after my first class I wanted to do it again to get better.
The trainers are helpful and they are friendly. There will be a lot to take in but I think it is worth it and a good experience.

Thank you Teaching Nomad

Honestly, Teaching Nomad and their staff are great at what they do. They helped me find, apply and successfully take multiple interviews to get offered a job in China over the course of 2-3 weeks. Super quick, I could not believe it. They are with you all along the way as well, any questions you name it, even help with interview preparation. I was really stuck where I was before, not to mention stresses. Teaching Nomad really helped me out.

O for Awesome Nomad

I came across this website on Google and thought of giving it a go. After I signed up it didn't take long until I got an email for an interview with one of their recruiters Moira. She was very awesome through out the job hunt making sure it was a smooth ride. Within days I received job interviews from schools and I have recently accepted a teaching job offer from China. For anyone who is thinking of teaching overseas I highly recommend Nomad and hopefully you get Moira as an agent she was O for Awesome (Kiwi joke). And even if you got the job they will still continue to help with your visa process and offering important informations making sure your teaching journey overseas is an unforgettable experience. Any Kiwis and everyone out there who is keen to teach overseas email or contact Nomad and there awesome staff such as Moira. Thank you heaps Nomad and Moira for your efforts and hard work. 😊❤👍👌

Best Recruiting Service Ever.

After previous experiences, I tried Nomad. I noticed the plethora of consistently great reviews, and mine is no different. Within a week I had 7 job interviews set up after the initial interview with my recruiter, Moira. She was absolutely amazing in getting so many great prospects in so little time. Now I'm a week away from leaving for my job in Taiwan. This couldn't have gone any better. This company is professional, kind and makes you feel wanted. Once again, no wonder they're the highest reviewed. Thanks Nomad and thanks Moira.

Great Program Great Experience

I really enjoyed working with staff from Teaching Nomad. They are very friendly, patient, supportive and resourceful. When I have a question, they contact me immediately. Not only they provide professional customer service, Teaching Nomad have created a very clear organized online TEFL program. There was no due date or pressure; I was able to go my own pace. If you love traveling and teaching English, then I definitely recommend this program to you!

Great training experience

The experiences of teaching both large public school classes as well as small learning center classes was extremely valuable in training as a new teacher. The course was very intensive in the amount of work required, but each exercise was valuable. This course also introduces you to a network of teachers that can then be available for idea sharing or suggestions as you begin a new teaching career.

What would you improve about this program?
More structure/ reliability around student attendance for the observed teacher practice at the learning centers would be useful for new teachers. When the same students come to lessons that are supposed to be planned for different ability levels, it can be discouraging while training as a new teacher.

More details up front/prior to course arrival would be helpful related to China document & visa requirements.

Excellent

Teaching Nomad's 120hr TEFL course in Shanghai has been an overwhelming, undeniably worthwhile experience. When I started the course, I had very minimal teaching experience and essentially no experience with children. Today, a month later, I feel I could confidently and competently teach a lesson to children, or adults, and go home feeling that the students I taught learned something. At times I wanted to quit, but Ginger and the other instructors provided genuine support and advice, and went out of their way to help however they could. I'm appreciative of the experience and mentors this program provided me, and I strongly recommend the course to anyone who is considering teaching in China.

What would you improve about this program?
This is a great program. Trust the process. You definitely get out of it what you put into it.

You'll really be prepared to teach kids after this

I came into this course with certain expectations that weren't necessarily met. I really wanted to teach adults after completion of this course; however, I do not feel prepared to do so as there weren't many opportunities to practice on adults. If you are looking to teach children, this is the class for you! They really center the course around children, and you'll receive ample opportunity to practice on children.
Although I was disappointed that I didn't get to practice teaching adults very often, I do feel like this course is still very valuable. The teachers here are very knowledgeable about teaching and do prepare you to teach in a lot of different situations. You are also educated on some material you may have never specialized in. I feel like I would be comfortable in a position teaching kids if I applied for a primary school job.
Another plus is that the classes you take here are very fun and engaging!

What would you improve about this program?
Just more opportunities to teach adults.

Awesome learning experience

It is an awesome learning experience with Teaching Nomad. I took the combined course with 10 days of teaching practice with them and thought I should have gone with the full four-week programme instead. The practical experience gained from the course is invaluable and those are what you can't get from online reading.

The trainers are really great and affirming. Their teaching experience in China and attentiveness to the learning needs of every course participants impresses me. They make sure every question we have in class is answered. Special thanks to Ginger, Nik and Daniel for being such wonderful trainers and helping in every way you can.

From lesson planning to classroom management, there are guidance and support given to make sure each teaching practice is a learning experience. The feedback sessions after each teaching practice have been really helpful in developing my teaching skills. I have learnt so much on classroom management and its effectiveness on teaching. The exposure to public school and small group teaching practices has certainly benefitted many of us in getting ready for the real teaching job.
