Great teachers and good material

I have been doing classes with them for the last 6 months and I am really happy about the progress. Before I started classes with them my progress was really slow and I had to learn things over and over again. With them I found motivated teachers with the focus on important things. Also their location in Beijing is really nice and creates a positive atmosphere for the classes. Their focus on speaking Chinese as much as possible allowed me to make good progress. All in all: I can really recommend it.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Do it, you won’t regret it.
Pros
  • Fast learning
  • Good illustrations
  • Fast progress

Great Teachers

Great school located in central location in Beijing. Teachers are terrific. They have their own online learning platform that is also very helpful. Would recommend for beginners as well as more advanced learners. I am in a small group class of four students.

Free beverages available at the office as well as small snacks. The classrooms are simple but great and feature big TV screens with sound as well as blackboards. This means that students are able to join in online from time to time, should they be unable to attend a class in person.

Pros
  • Location
  • Good teachers
  • Learning platform

That's Mandarin

I 100% recommend That's Mandarin. I came to China to work at a University which provided some Mandarin lessons but they we're terrible (slow paced and big class sizes). I discovered That's Mandarin through a friend and it has been an absolute pleasure.
My teachers are great, both are very inspiring. My course follows a well structured syllabus designed by That's Mandarin which is proving to be very useful. We also adapt the lessons for what I've been trying to use in conversation which keeps things fun and interesting.

Pros
  • Great teachers
  • My mandarin is improving
  • That's Mandarin organises fun activities

Great program to study Chinese

That's Mandarin is a great program for studying Chinese! The classes are one-on-one and fast-paced. I study a new unit every class, from units on the One Child Policy to environmental protection. The classes are well-integrated with technology, with my professors taking notes for me on vocabulary as we're going through the lesson. This allows me to pay more attention in class instead of taking extensive notes and helps studying at home. I especially love how flexible the classes are, with my teachers adapting to my interests.

Pros
  • One-on-one
  • Flexibility
  • Integrated with Technology

Nihao Cafe Online Class Review

I've enjoyed taking the courses with Nihao Cafe very much! I think the portal provided is clear and well organized, the structure makes it easy to keep up with so that I don't fall out of practice and the lessons are well paced and make it fun and easy to learn. I would like to emphasize how great my experience has been with the instructors. They are always friendly and engaging and motivate me to want to learn.
Only downsides to note are that the portal although well designed and overall easy to use can glitch and scheduling classes can be a bit confusing.

Pros
  • Flexibility
  • Accessibility
  • Makes learning fun
Cons
  • Some tech issues using the online portal
  • Scheduling can be confusing

Beijing 2023 Summer Camp - Kids Day Camp

Our two sons (12 and 10) participated joined the kids' summer camp in Beijing (day camp) for two weeks in July 2023. They had a great time overall. They particularly enjoyed the daily language classes (wisely scheduled in the afternoons, when it's too hot to go outside), which were challenging yet also highly rewarding. They did their homework every day with enthusiasm and plan to continue using That's Mandarin's teaching materials (books, website with many videos and helpful review exercises) for their weekly lessons back home. Thanks to the effective instruction and methods our children significantly improved their Chinese (advanced beginners) in just two weeks. They also enjoyed the culture classes in the mornings as well as the outings on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Instead of visiting four museums, however, they would have liked to visit some other cultural places as well, such as temples or historical parks (or the ancient observatory at Jianguomen). A wushu class or culinary workshop would also have been a nice addition. We strongly suggest That's Mandarin to make the abovementioned online teaching materials (nihaocafe.com) available as app (for Windows, Android) as well. This would allow participants to more easily review and frequently rehearse the course materials. We warmly recommend this school and hope to come back again in the near future - possibly next year already!

Pros
  • Practical content and good textbooks
  • Helpful online course tools
  • Nice and attentive staff
Cons
  • Location is good, but a little far from Dongzhimen subway stop and not too many hotels around
  • High tuition fees (yet still competitive)

“That’s Mandarin” The Best Chinese camp!

My 9 years old daughter and 7 years old son joined the Day Camp for 4 weeks! It's all because of the experienced teachers and the wonderful coordinators that they loved Chinese so much more. We are extremely pleased with the content of the lessons. My kids are saying would like to join their camp every summer! So lovely to see that many students are saying “See you next year here”. Thank you very much again teachers for your support. You made our kids summer vacation very memorable and special one!!

Fantastic Teachers

I came to Beijing for a mandarin learning vacation and took 3 classes per day for two weeks in person at That’s Mandarin Beijing. Gabriella and the other teachers here are absolutely amazing. They’re so energetic and engaging and make class really fun. The curriculum was really well designed to be as practical and useful as possible while still meeting HSK learning objectives. If you get the textbook that goes with your class it has all the vocabulary and dialogues so you can review them later without having to spend class time writing everything down. I like that out time is focused more on listening and speaking.

Pros
  • Great, engaging teachers!
  • Convenient Location
  • Competitively priced
Cons
  • WiFi isn’t great
