CSD Belize

This was a such an awesome experience! The people, housing, meals, and excursions were great. The supervisors and coordinators were so accommodating and willing to share their knowledge about speech pathology. Having the opportunity to work directly with clients was very rewarding and taught me so much. The cultural aspects of the trip were also fascinating and I loved visiting with the Belizian people to learn more about the various cultures in the country. I met so many amazing people on this trip and would definitely recommend!

Belize CSD

This experience was one of my favorites! I came into this program a little hesitant because it was a bunch of different people coming from every where across the US. I went with one person from my school, so we didn’t know anyone else! That is what made me enjoy this experience so much, I built friendships with people that I can now say will be in my life forever and that was just in 2 weeks! I learned so much on this trip from my amazing supervisors, this trip gave me the opportunity to see if this was really something I wanted to do for the rest of my life and I can confidentially say that it is! The people are amazing and make you feel so welcomed, especially at the hotel. I would 100% recommend this even if you are scared to go!

What an Experience!!!

One word to describe it all- wow. This trip has exceeded all of my expectations and was so much better than I could have hoped for. Our supervisors were very supportive and taught us very well, answering all of our questions with so much detail. The hands on experiences were greatly rewarding. They pushed us but made sure we never had more than we could handle. There was more downtime than I would have enjoyed however, it was not hard to find something to do. I would have appreciated a better arriving experience. When we arrived at the airport we had to find a guy with a sign but no one knew the man who ended up taking us to a white van. We just trusted that it was correct and was taken to the hotel where again no one that we knew were there to greet us. We just asked the front desk and thankfully they knew what was going on and gave us our room keys which we still did not know how the rooming situation was supposed to be like. Other than the rough start, the rest of the trip was exceptional.

Pros
  • The academic knowledge
  • The hands on experience
  • Lifelong friends
Cons
  • Getting from the airport to the hotel was a little uncoordinated, no one was there to welcome us at the hotel.

Irreplaceable Experience!

I can't believe how fulfilling this trip was in such a short timeframe, and it's definitely thanks to Therapy Abroad's dedicated team! They did all the planning and legwork so that we could fit in amazing experiences like visiting Mayan ruins, snorkeling to see sharks, and exploring local markets on top of clinical work. It is so clear that they were excited to show us all the things they love about this country. Most memorably, I felt more connected to the impact of being an SLP than I ever have. Knowing that because of screening and evaluations I did, children would be qualified for services they needed was an incredible feeling and made the impact of the work so much more tangible.

Pros
  • Everything is planned for you (food, itinerary, etc)
  • The satisfaction of making a difference through providing services to children who need it
  • Team camaraderie grew throughout the trip - we were sad to say goodbye!
Cons
  • It's very hot and steamy!
  • Reporting and documentation took a chunk of my time (but this also was part of my learning as an SLP grad student)

Belize Communication Sciences and Disorders

I was on the trip to Belize for CSD! Everyone was so amazing and supportive- both our supervisors and our hosts from Belize. We were always supplied water and food. All our accommodations were clean and had air conditioning (which was appreciated as it was very hot!). We had many activities planned which were fun and well organized. We also were taught many valuable skills by our supervisors who were licensed SLPs. We got to help so many clients in need of therapy, which was life changing. Overall, it was a great program!

Therapy Abroad in Belize 10/10!

I could write a book about the amazing experience that I had with the therapy abroad team in Belize. I am a PhD student, and a licensed speech language pathologist. I am comforted by knowing that therapy abroad will provide continued services to the amazing students that I met and evaluated while in Belize. Our housing, excursions, and meals were all absolutely amazing. They paid attention to details, and made each of us feel safe and special. I would recommend this program to absolutely anyone thinking about going. Chad , Justin, Jamie, and everyone on the therapy abroad team are a joy to work with.

Pros
  • Clinical insight
  • Clinical experience
  • Cultural immersion
Cons
  • Student price as a licensed clinician

Communication Sciences and Disorders

This was honestly a surreal experience. I learned so much and made amazing relationships with my fellow classmates and had the best time. The teachers were incredibly helpful and informative. We learned quite a bit and the hands-on experience is unlike any other. Belize is amazing and incredibly hot (so beware of that). The Cayes were amazing and it was nice to be able to relax after all the hard work we accomplished. It’s an experience unlike any other. So thankful I was able to experience this awesome trip abroad!

Coogs in Belize

This trip was amazing! I’m so glad I attended. This trip has given me the hands on experience of what it’s like as an SLP, plus has given me the interest of becoming a travel SLP too. Not only that, but this trip has allowed me to step out of my comfort zone as well, and try things I’ve never done or thought about before. I’m so grateful for Therapy Abroad and the faculty of my university for creating & offering this once in a lifetime opportunity. I would definitely recommend this trip to everyone!
