Studying Abroad in Seville

I absolutely loved my time studying abroad in Seville. My host dad, Quique was the best blessing I could ask for and the friends I met abroad are friends I will have forever. The CEA Staff, especially Mary Alice, always cared about all of us students and wanted to make sure we had the best experience possible. Sevilla is such an amazing city and the people there really make an effort to include you in their culture. I enjoyed my classes at CEA CAPA too, as all the professors wanted their students to succeed. It was a great place to learn Spanish as well. I 100% recommend studying abroad in Seville with CEA CAPA.

CEA CAPA Sevilla

CEA CAPA Sevilla is truly one of a kind. Every aspect of this program was incredible. I lived across the river in Los Remedios where I experienced a truly local neighborhood. I lived in a Casa de Sevilla with five other girls but we had a host parent who came everyday to take care of us. This was undoubtedly the most impactful part of the program - it was amazing. In addition, I took classes at both the CEA CAPA center as well as UPO, a local Spanish university. My classes at both places were amazing and had numerous opportunities to get further involved in the community. I also left Sevilla as an advanced Spanish speaker which was very important to me before I went abroad. Through my classes and my host parent I was able to improve my Spanish so much! I recommend this program completely :)

Study abroad in Seville, Spain

Definitely the experience of a lifetime! I met some of my best friends abroad from all over the world, who made my time abroad so fun, special, and full of growth! Seville is such a welcoming city with an amazing community. CEA CAPA made sure I was provided with the necessary tools to be comfortable, safe, have fun, but most importantly, feel right at home! I got placed in a beautiful house with 6 other girls and an amazing host mom who always made us feel cared for! The city is super safe and has an amazing culture with events like Feria and Semana Santa. Would absolutely recommend going in the Spring if these events are your priority!

Sevilla SU 2025

This program was amazing. The support we got from our professors and the on site staff was super helpful to adjusting to being in a new country and studying in that country. My professors were probably the best professors I have ever had because I could tell how passionate they are about their jobs and helping/teaching students studying abroad. The classes were amazing and I learned so much, which you cannot learn as well from home. We also got to travel to different parts of Spain as part of the program which was awesome, because we got to see different cultures around Spain and see beautiful sites. Overall the academics as well as the location I was in was amazing and I would definitely go again.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
I tried snail which I was really hesitant about, however when I tried it, I really liked it actually. We went to a farmers market for a class and bought food, we got a container of snails with some kind of broth or something which added extra flavor.
Pros
  • Supportive team
  • Amazing professors

Spring 2025 Semester

I chose to study in Seville despite not knowing anyone else in the program. I got placed with an amazing host family in the center of the city with a great roommate. Every trip and social activity organized by CEA CAPA was fun and stress-free, and the staff was always available to us. This is easily the safest city I've ever been to. All of the best tourist attractions and fun downtown areas are basically in walking distance of each other. I only wish that I had taken advantage of more social opportunities early on. Also, I had a great experience as a blogger/content creator for CEA CAPA.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Join WhatsApp groups (like Sevilla Intercambio) to meet travelers and locals around the city. There are always events happening in places like La Alameda where you can meet interesting people.
Pros
  • Having a host family helped me learn a lot of the language and culture
  • Very safe, clean and walkable city
  • Cheap food and clothes
Cons
  • Not as much of a metropolitan center like Madrid or Barcelona
  • While the food is cheap, it's not the most flavorful

Sevilla: My Favorite Chapter Yet

To be completely honest, I was terrified of going abroad. I thought the semester would feel way too long and was nervous about being away from home for an extended period. Yet, CEA CAPA proved me completely wrong, and the semester flew by. Keeping busy is a huge thing for me, and I knew I needed that when I arrived in Sevilla to distract me from being homesick. From the moment I got there, CEA did a good job with their orientation activities and helping us acclimate. We did a bike tour around the city, a guided neighborhood walk, and visited La Giralda and the cathedral. The team at CEA CAPA was so genuine and helped me feel safe and supported instantly. They genuinely want this experience to be amazing for you. All my professors were super lovely, and I had great experiences with all of them. The workload was extremely manageable, and I appreciated that they tried to teach us outside the classroom as much as possible. My housing was great; I lived with four other girls, and our apartment felt safe and clean. We even made friends with the apartment cleaners, knew the apartment owner, and were provided with any resources we needed. The location was also fantastic because we were close to the city center and less than a 10-minute walk from school. While many other factors contributed to having the best time of my life in Sevilla, I owe much of it to CEA CAPA. This program is fantastic, and I am forever grateful for everyone I crossed paths with because of CEA CAPA.

What was your funniest moment?
My funniest moment had to be when we first arrived, and my roommates and I were supposed to meet our orientation group at El Torre del Oro, an extremely famous tower. However, we did not realize it was a well-known landmark, so we used Apple Maps instead, which is bad in Seville. You should definitely use Google Maps to navigate the city. We somehow mapped ourselves to the El Torre del Oro Laundromat in the opposite direction. It was so funny because nobody else did this. Later, when we realized this was a famous landmark, we thought this was hilarious, and showed just how naive we were when we arrived.

Seville, Spain

I had an amazing experience in my Seville study abroad program during the summer, I had two great professors who were extremely well rounded and exposed us to new ways of learning that gave me a bigger perspective in the academic side of things, I took 2 classes for 6 credits and stayed with a host Dad in casa de Sevilla, my homestay was one of the things that shaped my experience the most , even thought I had random roommates every part of it felt like a second home with all of my roommates and my host dad and our daily dinners in our "casa". Overall, I would recommend seville as one of the best cities specially with the study center that always had Someone there for anything we needed during the program!!

Life-changing and inspiring!

My program was about 4 weeks long, during the summer. I wish I could have more time! I stayed in Casa de Sevilla, which involved living with 7 other girls. I became close friends with all of my flatmates, and absolutely adored our host! Quique, our host, stopped by twice a day to take amazing care of us. He cooked everything from authentic Spanish meals to hamburgers and pizza on fun nights out. I took a Sports Nutrition course, which was valuable to learn about. During class, we often went on excursions through the city to learn about different diets. On weekends, my friends and I would hop on trains to surrounding cities, or even other countries. I loved the people I met and the places I explored.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
I tried octopus for the first time! Octopus was common in costal cities, or in Paella. It wasn't my favorite (I'm a texture-person), but I was happy to give it a try!
Pros
  • Helpful and supportive staff
  • Hands-on learning style
  • Many opportunities to explore and visit new areas
Cons
  • Housing options were spread apart (difficult to meet up with friends in different housing)
