Intensive Spanish for Healthcare Professionals in Oviedo, Spain
About Program
In this 4-week Maymester program, students study intensive Spanish language specifically for healthcare professionals. In addition to standard Spanish healthcare terminology, the program incorporates common dialect variants and aspects of Latino culture that can impact the patient’s health and interaction with the medical system. The contents of this program are based on research carried out in US medical settings and are applicable to students wishing to work in healthcare abroad or interact with patients of Hispanic background in the Americas.
Class size is limited to 15 students to maximize student learning and there is a 20 hour practicum in local health care facilities. Program components include medical terminology, medical interview techniques, grammar & vocabulary in a clinical setting, and Hispanic beliefs & myths in the healthcare setting. Students will live with a homestay family in the clean, beautiful, and safe city of Oviedo, Spain.
