Literally TEFL Heaven

Living and learning in the Manuel Antonio area is an absolute dream. The beaches are gorgeous, the sun shines every day and the rain only makes everything more lush and green. The course at Maximo Nivel is where the value for money is at though. The course instructor is an amazing teacher and models TEFL teaching in a flawless fashion. It's hours of hard work but you'll leave a competent and enthusiastic certified teacher of the English language, which no one can take away from you. Surrounded by so many like minded people, you'll make some incredible friends too. Manuel Antonio is also a perfect location to go on weekend trips from. The beach of Santa Teresa, the waterfalls of Montezuma, the nightlife of Tamarindo: Costa Rica has so much to offer and you're perfectly placed to experience it all!

Best decision ever!

TEFL Maximo Nivel in Manuel Antonio has been on of my favorite experiences so far. The value of the program is extremely high. For one month you can live with a host family, getting the authentic tico experience, eat local food, and aquire a certification that will last a life time. The certification is not only good abroad, but also within the USA. The instructor is enthusiastic and makes every hour of the day entertaining and fulfilling. Additionally, the staff is extremely helpful and friendly. Maximo nivel ensures that you are eligible and desirable for a wide range of jobs and does everything possible to help with the job search. The idyllic setting is also great for adventuring on the weekend. If you work hard you will feel fulfilled and leave excited for all the opportunities to come!

What a trip..

The TEFL Certificate program in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica was an experience I will never forget. The teachers, students, and volunteers made me feel at home in a country far away from anything I knew. Audra Wooldridge was an inspiration to complete this heavy loaded course. Her encouragement and personality made me want to try my hardest in a course that had much more work than I anticipated. The city of Quepos/Manuel Antonio was such an amazing experience. Though the course is challenging, there is plenty of time to do tours, beach days, and the national park. Manuel Antonio will be somewhere that you will want to go back to for the rest of you life.

Epic Experience

What a wonderful experience. I love to travel, but I prefer to do something productive in a foreign country. This was such a great way to do that. I was able to open a door for myself to be able to travel to anywhere in the world and find a job. The course was great. There's definitely a decent amount of work to do, but it's all worthwhile. What really made this program special was the practical teaching experience. It's one thing to learn theory about teaching and talk about grammar, but it's a completely different thing to actually put it into action in a real classroom with real students. It was amazing to see the progress I'd made over the course of the 4 weeks. And watching students "get it" is one of the coolest, most rewarding feelings I've felt.

I'd recommend this program to everyone.

Maximo Nivel for maximum results

The instructor, materials, staff and setting in Manuel Antonio went above and beyond all my expectations. Plus, my home stay family made my adjustment as stress-free as possible. I would definitely recommend Maximo Nivel to anyone wishing to teach English in Latin America. But be advised, after a while you might grow accustomed to all the amazing things like howler monkeys at night, sloths in the trees, iguanas just hanging out, beautiful beaches, friendly people, unbelievably tasty smoothies...

TEFL-Costa Rica

I did my TEFL training in Costa Rica- Manuel Antonio and I was fortunate enough to experience both Audra and Karen as TEFL teachers. They were fully supportive, and I couldn't have asked for better trainers. The course was intense but they made it fun and interesting, and you felt like a little family. I was provided with all the support I needed and help and guidance. Fantastic course and fantastic trainers!

"Life begins at the end of your comfort zone." Neale Donald Walsch

I did not have clearly defined expectations for myself coming into the course as I do not have a teaching or academic language study back ground. I spoke with quite a few people about TEFL courses and did a lot of research on the internet so the one thing I did expect was that a four week course including a week of practical teaching would be far better training than an on-line course that I could complete in two weeks at home with zero practical teaching. My expectations were far exceeded by Maximo Nivel and especially Claudia Behnke. I was fortunate to have some very hard-working and caring teachers back in school but I never had a teacher who loved teaching like Claudia. She gave 110% all the time and never held back. There were what appeared to me to be a full spectrum of learners in our class with a much broader range of challenges that I would have anticipated. From an on-line learner coming in half way through to illnesses and other incidents that took people out of the course and required incredible flexibility on Claudia’s part. To be fair, the entire staff exceeded my expectations. They were friendly, warm and never hesitated to stop in the middle of their busy day to help with whatever we needed at the moment. This included the teachers we conducted our observations with. They were more than happy to speak with us and answer any question we had about their style and the level and character of their classes.

Questions & Answers

Apart from what the others have already suggested, I would also advise that any travel you intend on doing, you are prepared to leave until you've finished or to start beforehand. Manuel Antonio is a beautiful place, and you will certainly have beach time. But don't be fooled! The classes are intensive and require outside-the-classroom prep time. Good luck and have fun!

Thanks so much for your reply. I'd love if you could connect me with them! I'm going to be studying at Maximo in January 2017 and am very keen to teach :)

I would definitely recommend a laptop. You'll need it to work on assignments and lesson plans out of class. The building can get pretty hot, so being able to relocate to cooler locations is a must. Regarding clothes, I wore decent shorts and collared shirts for the classes. For interviews, I would recommend something more business casual.

The cost of the program varies by location and what type of stay you prefer (apartment, hostel, or homestay). I have added a link to the estimated program costs below that you may find helpful. In general, the cost will be somewhere between $2000-$2500, not including your flight. http://www.maximonivel.com/tefl-tesol/prices/
