Baby Boomer

I am 63 years old and just graduated from TEFL class in Manuel Antonio. I have lived here in Manuel Antonio by myself and had blast. People over 50 or 60 should not be intimidated. This is a safe place if you use common sense. The course is hard work, you are not just paying Maximo Nivel to print you a certificate, but you have something worthwhile when you finish! A beautiful beach is close by.

What would you improve about this program?
Facility was very hot a lot of the time, then, it is Costa Rica.

Get TEFL certification while living in a beautiful coastal area of Costa Rica

When I confirmed everything with Maximo Nivel and booked my plane tickets I had no idea on whether I can or cannot teach people English because I had no teaching experience and I didn’t know if I had the right way of thinking to be able to teach. A month has passed now and now I can say that I actually can teach because I had my mini lessons and a whole week of actual teaching
At this very moment when I’m writing my Professional Development Paper just hours before our graduation party and looking at a beautiful Costa Rican sunset I can say that this program was fantastic! It is not easy, you will have to work hard, it is an intense program after all ! Upon completing the TEFL course I am ready to roam the world and teach some English to people all around our planet!

Audra is Pretty Chill

I loved my program in Manuel Antonio. The course was very dense and a lot of work, but I learned so much in only four weeks. My TEFL trainer Audra was a dream and a half and the team even helped me line up a job before I graduated. It costs a little more than taking the coursework online or at a school in the United States, but getting to live and work in Costa Rica is well worth it. It is so humid I got to sweat out all my toxins and then some, but I really enjoyed working with the Maximo Nivel team.

Great Time!

I would highly recommend coming to Manuel Antonio to get a TEFL certification. Audra Wooldridge, the instructor is absolutely wonderful and is always available to help. The course is rigorous and prepares you extremely well for the next phase of English teaching. Come prepared to learn a whole different style of teaching! Manuel Antonio is beautiful and my host family allowed me to practice spanish daily. Highly recommend!

Maximo Nivel is Pura Vida

First of all this course was designed with a travel destination in mind Manuel Antonio is a great place to spend 4 weeks getting certified. In regards to the course itself it is more demanding and intensive than i initially thought it to be. In regards to the client service staff; Karen & Jonno these guys go above and beyond to make your stay here as comfortable as possible and provide all the necessary information needed to make your stay here enjoyable. In regards to the teacher Audra is an amazing soul she makes the classroom time an absolute blast! She lives and breathes TEFL and the style of teaching you learn from her is Top notch!

What would you improve about this program?
better options for accommodations, such as an apartment building used to rent specifically to TEFL learners.

Por Que No?

This was, hands down, the greatest experience of my entire life. The moment that I stepped foot into Cosi, I felt home. I was greeted by the most amazing staff and the family vibe was contagious. Audra is MAGICAL. By far, the best teacher that I have ever had. I looked forward to class everyday and the bond that was formed between our group members is indescribable. My host family took me in and treated me like I was one of their own. Take a leap of faith and head to Manuel Antonio. Not to mention, you literally live in paradise. PURA VIDA MAE!

Quality program and a great experience

Audra, the lead trainer, and the rest of the staff at Maximo are all great! They are extremely professional, knowledgeable, and accommodating. Audra brings great energy into the classroom and it's very evident that she's been training English teachers for some time.

The Manuel Antonio area is beautiful with plenty of nature to see and cool people to meet. Maximo also offers plenty of work/volunteer/class options if you want to stick around after the course has ended.

The course is challenging but worth the time and effort. I feel confident and capable of teaching English learners, and that is what's most important.

Great experience overall!

You'll Learn A Lot!

This course can be intense but I learned a lot of good stuff about teaching English and I definitely feel more prepared. Our instructor Audra had a ton of energy and did a great job teaching the course! We even had fun during grammar week! The rest of the staff is friendly and free coffee is always appreciated. Manual Antonio is beautiful but rather small so take advantage of the days off and visit other parts of Costa Rica if you can.

Questions & Answers

Apart from what the others have already suggested, I would also advise that any travel you intend on doing, you are prepared to leave until you've finished or to start beforehand. Manuel Antonio is a beautiful place, and you will certainly have beach time. But don't be fooled! The classes are intensive and require outside-the-classroom prep time. Good luck and have fun!

Thanks so much for your reply. I'd love if you could connect me with them! I'm going to be studying at Maximo in January 2017 and am very keen to teach :)

I would definitely recommend a laptop. You'll need it to work on assignments and lesson plans out of class. The building can get pretty hot, so being able to relocate to cooler locations is a must. Regarding clothes, I wore decent shorts and collared shirts for the classes. For interviews, I would recommend something more business casual.

The cost of the program varies by location and what type of stay you prefer (apartment, hostel, or homestay). I have added a link to the estimated program costs below that you may find helpful. In general, the cost will be somewhere between $2000-$2500, not including your flight. http://www.maximonivel.com/tefl-tesol/prices/
