Thailand off the beaten path!

Choosing Kids-English was easy for me because they offer the chance to go abroad without paying massive fees. Teachers who are not from the major Native English Speaking countries do not have the same spending power due to strength of currencies and economies. Kids English gave me the opportunity to travel and work in Thailand for a fraction of the cost as other companies, which gave me the chance to have an experience that normally only Non-native English Speakers have. I am forever grateful for Kids English and all they did for me!

Pros
  • 24/7 support
  • Experienced staff team
  • A True meaningful experience

Thailand adventure

Absolutely cannot put into words what an awesome experience I had in Thailand. I chose to study the TEFL abroad as I was a lone traveler and thought it would be a good way to meet people- I'm so glad I chose this option as the people I met along the way really made the trip for me! I was both excited and apprehensive about teaching outside of a main city but the placement could not have been better. The staff were fully supportive the whole time and added so much to the whole experience. I felt like I had an authentic Thai experience without being thrown in the deep end to fend for myself. All questions were answered, support was given for visas and work permits and I felt like I always had someone to turn to. Fully recommend this to anyone considering!

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
Myself and some friends visited a beautiful temple where we saw many monks- one of which was covered head to toe in tattoos! Not really sure what I was expecting but not that! I wanted to take a photograph but didn't want to be rude. It was quite a surprise.

Experience Thailand via the Professionals.

Starting to plan your adventure in Thailand can be a daunting task. If planned correctly, this will be one of the best experiences of your life, the emphasis here is on the word 'plan'. The team at Teach & Discover Thailand made this process as streamline as possible, providing me with all the knowledge I needed before arriving in Bangkok. There are little things that make a huge differences in the Thai culture. These simple gestures or ways of addressing the Thai people can make the world of difference to your experience in Thailand. All of this was explained to me in great detail and before I stepped on the plane, I was ready for whatever Thailand may bring. The most important aspect of this program is the constant support from the team. When it comes to navigating the language and visas, they have you covered. When it comes to setting you up in your new school and surroundings, they have you covered! They took care of everything which allowed me to fully enjoy the experience. I cannot stress enough just how important it is to have a knowledgeable team to take care of you doing your time in the land of smiles. I trusted the team at Teach & Discover Thailand and they did not disappoint. Highly recommend.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
You will encounter many nerve-racking moments in Thailand as the culture, landscape, food and people will all be very unfamiliar. This program and the people involved made me feel at ease every step of the way. They are always available to assist, advise or handle any and all questions or queries that you may have. I met numerous people involved in programs across Thailand and after a few conversations regarding their services and support, I quickly realized that I was apart of the right program!

Great support

Very supportive. From pickup to dropoff they take care of you and make sure all of your affairs are in order. I was given their number, and they texted me every couple of hours on the bus. I was boarded at a place two minutes away from their office. And they made sure everything was ready for my first day at the school, from transportation to accomodation. Super friendly, but exact. Highly recommended. The place I was boarded was a little out of the way, but clean plus wifi. The food pickings are slim at the location, but there was a Friday night market, and town is a short 5 minute car ride away. The night market is on the smaller scale but a lot of fun, and bargaining is encouraged. All in all, great company to be taken into. Great job, guys.

What was your funniest moment?
The first morning, I went outside and was chased around by a chicken

A Good Start to Your Thailand Adventure

I came to Thailand last year (2018) and got a job working through Kids-English Thailand in Phichit Province May of that year. Prior to that, the company had graciously provided me with free accommodation near their offices in the city of Sukhothai at no cost while waiting for my placement. If I had to summarize everything up by that action, I would say that working for Kids- English is great, and they help take away some of the hassle living in a foreign country, so that you can experience the positives of Thailand and the joys of teaching.
Kids-English is very accommodating, and I met teachers from all different backgrounds, and countries. As long as you meet the basic requirements as dictated by Thailand's government to be able to teach, you will have no problem at all. They will process your paperwork, help you find housing, and help you adjust to teaching in a Thai school. Making a move to a foreign country is hectic, but Kids-English will help you the best they can. I wholly enjoyed my experience working in Phichit province through their company.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Make sure that you bring all the paperwork you need before coming to Thailand. Original BA degrees, official transcripts, etc. It can be difficult to have to have everything sent over, plus it slows down the paperwork process. As long as you have all your stuff together on your end, you will have no problems at all.

A Real Authentic Experience

I have been living and teaching in Tak, Thailand for a year now and I feel extremely grateful for my placement, school and agency. Tak is a small town located 6 hours north of Bangkok and 4 hours south of Chiang Mai. It has everything you need; a department store, plenty of aesthetic restaurants and cafes, multiple markets, a beautiful river lined by mountains that flows through the center of town, national parks nearby, a bus station for easy traveling, a few bars and even a dance club. My experience in this town was a bit of an adjustment at first but now I am a regular at my favorite coffee shop, my order is memorized at the papaya salad stand and the night market and I attend the local yoga class 2 nights a week. After some time and adjustment, it was easy to feel at home here.

This program is perfect for anyone looking for a real authentic experience in an entirely different environment. Someone who wants to fully immerse themselves in a new culture/way of life. A slow paced life with opportunity to travel on the weekends/holidays.

The community of teachers in the area is fantastic. Our agent includes us all in a group chat so we can keep in touch with each other as well as support each other and ask each other questions. Our agent also organizes fun activities for us constantly to bring us together such as dinner parties, hiking trips and local events/festivals. There is a strong sense of community between foreign teachers in the area.

Teaching has easily been the most fulfilling part of the entire experience. Thai students are incredibly fun and even more adorable. They will steal your heart with their smiles and their constant joy. The program prepares you well, but it should be expected that you will have to settle into your own teaching style/routine once you arrive at your placement school based on your students' proficiency and grade level.

Overall, I feel lucky to have had an authentic experience living and working in Thailand. Making Thai friends, learning a little bit of the language, and adapting to the small-town Thai lifestyle. I highly recommend this program to anyone who is interested in having a real authentic cultural experience.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
My advice to future travelers is this: your experience will be whatever you make of it. You can force yourself out of your apartment to go explore on the weekends or you can stay inside and binge watch Netflix. The choice is yours. Culture shock is inevitable, sometimes overwhelming, and sometimes it's tempting to stay inside but personally, I've found that the easiest way to overcome the culture shock is to dive in, take initiative, and find ways to become a part of the local community and foster relationships with Thai people. Thai people are extremely friendly but also very shy so don't be afraid to be the initiator when making friends with Thais. Say yes to every adventure/opportunity that you possibly can. Expect to feel uncomfortable at times and embrace that, knowing that the most memorable things in life are often experienced outside of your comfort zone.

Wonderful memories

Teaching in a small province called Sukhothai was one of the most incredibly awesome experiences I've had in Thailand. Apart from having polite students at school, the local people were warm too. They offered me to try authentic homemade Thai dishes many times. I felt at home. I felt very welcomed.

Additionally, Sukhothai is considered as the cradle of Thai civilization. It has so many interesting places to visit. One is the Historical Park where dozens of well preserved and restored monuments dating back to the 13th until 15th centuries can be found. Thai art and architecture were born here as well.

So if you want to experience the same, I highly recommend Kids English. They gave me amazing support during the transition, helped me find nice accommodation, and my visa and working permit were arranged in a timely manner too. I couldn't ask for a better agent. They are simply amazing!

Fantastic support

My time in Thailand has been fantastic. I was placed in a small town called Tak, which is between Bangkok and Chiang Mai meaning that I was able to travel on the weekends to see my friends in other cities. My town was great! It was a very quiet place near the mountains, river and surrounded by rice paddies. Nevertheless, the town was filled with cute cafes and great places to hang out at on the weekends. I felt like in my short time in Thailand I was able to get a really authentic experience of living here.

Teaching in my placement school has been such a fun and interesting experience. I get to be creative with my lessons and my classrooms come with many resources such as microphones, projectors and speakers which allows me to make my lessons more fun. My colleagues are very friendly and always there for me. I was also given the opportunity to mentor a debating club and go around Thailand to various debating competitions which we won!

Kids English offered great support for my transition to Thailand. They helped me to find my way to my town, picked me up from the bus station and arranged accommodation for me on the day. I received a 24/7 emergency support from my agent which really took my mind off things. I would 100% recommend Kids English to anyone who considers teaching in Thailand. It will save you money and you will still get the same level of support as you do from other recruitment agencies. 22

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
The most unfamiliar thing I ate was the coconut ice cream to which Thai people add red kidney beans and sweetcorn! One of the funniest things to me about Thailand is that the Thai people add sugar to every meal that they eat apart from the things that we would consider dessert in the West.
