Quick and Easy

I have passed all my teaching exams and will soon become a licensed ESOL teacher. Unfortunately, the processing time for my background check and license takes 3 months. In the meantime I need a TESOL certificate to get a job. I chose this course, and was able to complete it extremely quickly and easily. Hopefully, this certificate will help me get a job while I'm waiting for my teacher's license. I highly recommend this course for teachers with prior experience!

What would you improve about this program?
Make it more difficult, the final grade should be 70% or higher to pass the course. 50% is too low a standard. Get rid of the videos, they are not professional and look and sound tacky.

I recommend the course for those busy teachers who have had practical teaching experience but wanted to obtain a quick certification program. Good price, self paced and easy to understand! . The course was very insightful, as it examines all the aspects and dimensions of teaching English as a foreign language. It provides one with a theoretical background of teaching English as well as practical ideas and materials, one can implement in the classroom. The course consists of 10 videos & papers divided into 10 units: Intro, Classroom Management, Assessment, Planning Lessons, Speaking, Vocab, Reading, Listening, Writing, Additional tools. After each unit, there is a test that can be retaken once, it has awesome level of difficulty: it's a bit demanding but not extremely hard. The biggest advantage of the course is the fact, that you can watch videos and read papers as many times as you want to. There is no rush. You want to skip unit that you think you know - no problem. Great program!

I can't believe i have completed the TESOL. It is so awesome. I have a very busy work schedule but with this institute i was able to take the course at my free time. UNI-prep Institute Made Education Flexible...!!! I enjoyed the course and the Videos that flow along with the E-Book.. Now am registering for a Business Course with UNI-Prep Institute.. I am so happy!!!!

I wanted to get a certificate to use to teach abroad in the future, but all of the ones around me were out of my price range. This one is really good for the price! It's fast and simple, and the information from the course is really helpful in teaching you what to expect from the classroom as well! The course went by really quickly as well, which was great since I tend to go through material fast. I preferred this pace over a physical classroom.

What would you improve about this program?
The videos didn't really helped me. I stuck with the PDFs. Some classroom examples would have been nice.

Easy and Affordable TESOL Course

I took this course to prepare for teaching abroad, hopefully in Italy or Spain. I teach IT courses as an adjunct, so I have quite a bit of experience. But this course was helpful in describing strategies for dealing with different types and ages of students trying to learn a very difficult subject: English. Part of being a good teacher is getting in the right mindset and understanding what is important and not so important to convey and learn. This course did a good job of making me think about those topics.

What would you improve about this program?
I think it would be very valuable to see videos of actual classroom experiences showing various teaching strategies, activities, group and one-on-one settings.

UNI Prep Institute TESOL Program

I would highly recommend this program to anyone that is considering beginning a career as an ESL teacher. I found all the materials to be very well presented and extremely helpful. The lessons were highly concentrated with what seemed to be the most important information to keep in mind when teaching and preparing lessons, and I left each lesson feeling increasingly prepared to apply what I learned in a live setting. I will definitely keep the lesson files and video instruction around to refine my working understanding of each theme.

Also, the sequencing of the material built upon itself well, and the content was engaging which made the overall experience very enjoyable. I truly had a great time with this course and look forward to considering furthering my education with UNI-Prep
This course exceeded my expectations!

What would you improve about this program?
For this 120 hour program, I really don't have much feedback because this was a very well delivered entry-level course in which I did not encounter many shortcomings as far as feeling prepared and challenged. If anything I would say one improvement might be to have some type of teacher-student communication built into the lessons such as discussion posts, etc.

Very easy course . cheap. and very good to have a TESOL degree to get a job abroad . i definitely recommend this course to ESL teacher that want to teach about. this course teach you about how to handle children from other culture, how to create a good learning environment. tips on how to teach English on a pace that the students will understand . Also this course is good for people that work because you can do it on your own time and its great because it is accredited international which means any international school will recognize it.

I needed a TESOL certificate and was so excited when I found this program on the internet. I just completed the course and did not think that it was going to be that easy. I wish I knew about this program couple of years ago. The program is wonderful and the fee is quite reasonable. I can recommend it without hesitation if you lack of time and want to obtain a TESOL certificate online at your own pace.

What would you improve about this program?
The videos sound like a robot, I think they should be improved.

Do you have to have a teachers license or a bachelors degree?

You do not need a degree or teacher's license to register in or complete our courses. Most of our students are not teachers and do not have a teacher's license - though some do and take our course to upgrade their credentials.

Why did you choose this program?

Because I wanted to improve my chances of getting an English teaching job in China. I needed to get more qualified in order to be able to get jobs. This program was helpful because it offered me the chance to be able to get the certificate quickly as a PDF and also to ship the original certificate to me.

What did your program provider (or university) assist you with, and what did you have to organize on your own?

They had videos, reading materials and quizzes. I already have some years of experience of teaching in different environments so I just tried to add that information to my experience and it was successful. Since the quizzes are the same for everybody, you should see which parts of information you know from before and which parts you're just learning, and that's what determines how much you're going to do on your own and how much you're going to be using the offered materials.

What is one piece of advice you'd give to someone going on your program?

I'd say that you can't know everything in advance, but if you're more knowledgeable and have more qualifications, it's always going to be in your own favor. Although even if you are completely qualified, you are always going to see new things at first, until you adapt completely to the new environment.

What does an average day/week look like as a participant of this program?

Study, memorize and apply the learned techniques in your lessons and/or in your ideas for future lessons. You have to compare what you're learning vs. what you did before and try to improve on everything. Every day, you should definitely be studying and doing your best; this is obviously very important.

Going into your experience abroad, what was your biggest fear, and how did you overcome it? How did your views on the issue change?

Generally speaking, being afraid doesn't help anything, so you should always try to deal with issues as they come up. This hopefully helps you get ready to deal with the challenges you face. You can learn more and therefore replace fear with knowledge, which helps you deal with a lot more than just one issue.

What position do you hold at Uni-prep? What has been your career path so far?

I am the Operations Manager at UNI-Prep in charge of all our online courses and international operations. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science and worked for several years as an Analyst and Consultant before traveling to Dubai, UAE. In Dubai, one of the many projects I worked on was teaching English to students of various ages, including corporate clients and CEOs.

The culmination of my international work experience eventually led me to the world of online learning, along with TESOL teacher training. I really enjoy helping to develop new courses and finding new ways to make the online learning process more interactive and enjoyable!

Did YOU teach abroad?! If so, where and what inspired you to go?

Yes, I taught in Dubai, United Arab Emirates for 3 years where I was involved in the education industry in a number of ways. I had the privilege of teaching English at their police academy and to members of the army, along with corporate clients and C-level executives.

My family has always put an importance on traveling, so after graduating from university and gaining some work experience, I found myself seeking something different and exciting. I received a job offer to work as a Consultant in Dubai and basically ‘lucked-into’ the world of English teachers and online learning. I haven’t left since!

What does the future hold for Uni-prep?

The best part of my job is developing new courses and improving the features of our online courses – and that’s the future of UNI-Prep. We already offer a number of courses aside from TESOL in the areas of business and management, and we will be developing more. Right now, UNI-Prep is forming partnerships with job boards to give our students and graduates premium access to job search tools.

We are also in the process of creating internships and teaching opportunities with our organization and partner schools around the world. When it comes to our courses, some of our future features will include a mobile app to study from your phone, classroom chats and discussion boards.

What about the future of the teach abroad industry? How do you think education will change over the next 10 years?

English is likely to grow as the international language over the next 10 years, which will double the need for English language teachers around the world. In addition, we are seeing that online learning is becoming more popular and accepted as a cheaper and more flexible alternative to traditional classes.

With the combination of these, we not only expect an increase in the need for classroom teachers, but also virtual teachers. To give one example, English lessons through Skype is becoming a popular method of learning English, something already offered by UNI-Prep.

Which teach abroad destination is most underrated? Conversely, which is most overrated?

South America is the most underrated destination as the lower pay discourages a lot of teachers from otherwise going there. However, most individuals don’t realize the cost of living is so cheap that their salary can afford them a better experience with more spending money than a higher salary in other parts of the world.

I think parts of the Middle East can be overrated. The high pay attracts lots of candidates, but many of these countries have strict rules that may impact your ability to fully enjoy the experience. It’s very important to keep in mind the culture of the destination country when you are deciding where to work.
