About Program

Our Combined Level 5 TEFL Certificate (168 hours) is regulated by Ofqual (UK) and approved by the DEAC (US), so has official recognition from 2 government-recognised bodies! This makes all the difference when applying for jobs.

This course will give you a strong understanding of what employers are looking for. Complete 10 hours in the classroom in addition to 158 hours of online study. Some teachers prefer to have some in-class experience besides online study, so our combined course gives you exactly that.

You will learn so much from other students in the classroom and have the opportunity to actually teach! The 10-hour weekend class is designed to break down the fundamentals of TEFL.

Highly recommended!

I completed the Level 5 Certificate course in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. Although I've been a tutor for more than 25 years, I still learned quite a lot from the course. The course contains 10 units, which cover, e. g., lesson planning, teaching vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar and how to select teaching materials. Candidates had to complete three assignments, which I found rather challenging: 1. planning a reading lesson; 2. planning a grammar session; 3. commenting on a course book and choosing authentic materials. The feedback on the assignments was prompt, fair and thorough. All my queries were dealt with in a timely manner. For me it was convenient to study at home, and I found it easy to navigate through the programme. Highly recommended!

What would you improve about this program?
Students should be expressly told that the programme is rather challenging and that they need to study every day to complete it. They should also be warned that the 3 assignments involve quite a lot of research.

Combined Level 5 TEFL Course Uk (168 hours)

When I was doing my research on what course provider to choose for my TEFL course I came across many good reviews about the TEFL Academy and their outstanding deals and the overall value of their courses. So I chose them! I enjoyed the course, the assignments were challenging enough and there's plenty of materials, tips and further readings given. I feel like I have a good amount of informations and knowledge to try starting a career. I wouldn't have minded doing some more in depth grammar revision during the course, some of it is included but I would have liked a bit more practice through more challenging tests. That's the only downside I can found about the course and in order to teach you will have to do plenty of more revision anyway! The staff are very polite and prompt in responding to any inquiries. Also when you complete the course they give you a big list of websites where to apply for TEFL jobs all over the world and they offer their help with your CV writing. Being unable to travel at the moment, I am looking into on-line teaching/tutoring which I wouldn't have considered before but I can see it happening now!
Sooo... I definitely recommend this course! Good luck with your journey! :)

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Don't get too stressed over assignments! Read all the given notes carefully, revise the advised units and make a nice work plan for yourself giving a couple of days for each task 😉 You can get overwhelmed easily especially if you really want to do well and get a good grade! Good luck!

TEFL Academy

I found the Level 5 TEFL Course (168 hrs) to be a very challenging, rigorous, well-structured course that covered all aspects of theory and through the assignments made the best of trying to evaluate students' classroom presentation skills. The online course gave us plenty of access to other online resources so i fell that in terms of theory this course could not be bettered. It was much harder than I expected and I struggled with the course and the demands of a full-time job but the support was fantastic and I got through.

What would you improve about this program?
The only thing that is lacking is the classroom experience to bring TEFL Academy to the same accreditation as the CELTA and Trinity qualifications – the first job I looked at would only accept those certificates which is a bit disheartening.

The TEFL Academy - definitely worth it!

Myself and my boyfriend did our tefl course with The TEFL Academy. We started in April 2018 and completed it in December 2018. We both worked full-time which is why it took us the extra 3 months to complete the 168 hour course. The course itself is absolutely amazing. It really gives you all the tools you need to put what you already know into practice. If we ever had any trouble the support team were always an email or a phone call away. They're very fast and efficient when it comes to getting back to you. They have excellent customer service. We both throughly enjoyed the course and are now working in Phnom Penh, Cambodia thanks to it. We would, and do, recommend this course whenever we get the chance to. It's 100 percent worth every penny.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Be confident, go with the flow. You'll never win unless you try. It's either win or learn.

First time travel

I completed the course so I can take my first travel experience, and will be going solo. I am heading to Hanoi, Vietnam in September where I will initially holiday and adventure, then meet up with friends to celebrate my birthday in October for Island hopping in the Philippines. From there I will seek work as a TEFL Teacher around November in an undecided location. I hope to do this part time or even some online, as this will maximise flexibility and time for myself. I hope the New Year will offer a working visit to Japan and/or South Korea, but I am most excited that no plan is the best plan and meeting people and hearing of their experiences along the way will mostly be how I decide where to go.
By completing this course I can now work anywhere in the world which has been a life goal for a long time but had always waited on someone to travel with.. I am feeling really empowered now that this year I have ended a relationship, quit my job, bought my flights, completed my course and am in the process of selling my car and belongings... I can't wait to see what the next chapter has to offer!

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would purchase the course when I was ready to start studying as there are regular sales online and the extensions can be pricey. I would also ensure I had more free time to dedicate to completing the course quicker

Teaching can be fun!

I am very satisfied with the Combined Level 5 TEFL course. The practical side, when we had an opportunity to work in groups and to prepare our own lessons, was really exciting. We were shown how to deliver an interesting and at the same time a valuable lesson. I realised that teaching (both children and adults) doesn't have to be boring and trite. I also understood that the right attitude and a bit of creativity can really make a difference in teaching English. The online materials were challenging, especially the assignments, but thanks to them I managed to practice further and deepen the knowledge gained during the course.
I would happily recommend this course to people who feel that combining teaching and travelling is something they would enjoy doing.

What was your funniest moment?
Trying to learn Mandarin. It was very hilarious when people tried to repeat some words in a completely new language.

Worth the investment!!

110% would recommend!
I was hesitant to try a TEFL Course for a couple of years because I didn't like the idea of working in a classroom. But the TEFL Academy showed me there were other ways to teach such as online and in business settings.
The course itself was very well put together, well thought out and straightforward to manage alongside my day job. No stone is left unturned: there is the main course information and then extra videos, articles and books are provided for anyone looking to delve a bit more into the subject.
I completed the course feeling fully informed of my options for a career as well as confident in the material I had learned.
For anyone who is looking to travel and work on the go, this programme is a must as it will provide with such freedom!

What would you improve about this program?
A little more time to spend actually teaching on the weekend in London.

The TEFL Academy

I studied the Level 5 TEFL Course (168 hrs) and it was really worthwhile. I gained invaluable knowledge that I can put to good use when I go travelling. The online course was easy to navigate through and I felt that I always had support from the TEFL team should I find myself in any bother. There was a lot of work involved between eleven unit tests and three assignments but it was definitely beneficial. If I had any piece of advice to offer it would be to enrol when you have the time to commit yourself to the course. 168 hours may not sound like a lot but there is a huge amount of content that you have to navigate through. As I said, it's all beneficial, so it's not time wasted! You will be glad you did it once you have the certificate in your hands!

What would you improve about this program?
The final assignment, as I found it to be repetitive.
