So really loved this course, much better than any other course I have ever done!! I would honestly recommend it!! Great feedback is given which helps you grow and develop and not just pass and move on!! True learning experience!! Have been recommending it to everyone looking into TEFL! The course contains everything and more needed to teach, as well as everything to get you actually teaching! I cant wait to proudly display my certificate when I get it! Im also excited to start my top up course soon! Just deciding which one as all the options are great! I will definitely try and do all of the top ups if I can!

What would you improve about this program?

I would have loved all the materials printed, but its a new age and I totally understand why its not done this way!!

My Level 5 TEFL Course (168 hrs) course was just what I needed to try my hand at living and teaching abroad. The course was hard enough to test me yet was easy enough to follow each unit. Instructions and guidelines are laid out like all diplomas so easy to follow and tick off when completed. Although I have an MA in English this feels like a perfect accompaniment to further strengthen my skills in the use and teaching of English. Well worth a go.
Did not have any problems or negatives with thus course and at a discount price of £249 I felt I had little to lose. Now I'm in Cambodia waiting to start in a local school, I know it was well worth the investment. Can go one to take one on one teaching course for further advancement in this area so feel the world is my oyster at the moment.

What was your funniest moment?

Getting in a taxi with a young family and recording their singing for folks back home. Priceless memories

Excellent course to do online. Very helpful tutors and other support staff. Easy to access and thorough coursework. Very tough assignments but worth it and prepared me to deliver to students.
Recommend it anyone who wants to develop their teaching skills online or abroad. Very flexible too.
I recommend this course to anyone who wants to do it to expand their cv or solo travellers who want explore other countries and to utilise their skills combining with their travels. Each unit was very thorough with useful extra reading. The end of the unit tests were hard, but challenging as to what you learned. Although it is 168 hours one achieve it quickly. I found certain aspects like grammar very useful as I never covered it thoroughly in my days.

I recently completed The TEFL Academy - TEFL Combined Level 5 Course which had both online and a weekend practical teaching aspect to it.
The course itself I thought was excellent and would be the perfect start to anyone wishing to pursue a career in English Language teaching. The online tests ensured I had fully understood the content of each Unit and the whole course layout was perfect.
The assignments were challenging and gave me a real insight into the life of an ESL teacher. The weekend course I spent in Brighton was based at a hotel and included other students on the same course. It was a really enjoyable and educational weekend which has given me great confidence going forward in my career.
Overall I would fully recommend this course to anyone wishing to work either at home or abroad within the industry.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?

If I had to do the course again I would start completing the assignments as soon as they become available rather than leaving them to the end as it did put more pressure on completing the course within the 6 month time limit.

I completed the Level 5 Certificate course in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. Although I've been a tutor for more than 25 years, I still learned quite a lot from the course. The course contains 10 units, which cover, e. g., lesson planning, teaching vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar and how to select teaching materials. Candidates had to complete three assignments, which I found rather challenging: 1. planning a reading lesson; 2. planning a grammar session; 3. commenting on a course book and choosing authentic materials. The feedback on the assignments was prompt, fair and thorough. All my queries were dealt with in a timely manner. For me it was convenient to study at home, and I found it easy to navigate through the programme. Highly recommended!

What would you improve about this program?

Students should be expressly told that the programme is rather challenging and that they need to study every day to complete it. They should also be warned that the 3 assignments involve quite a lot of research.

When I was doing my research on what course provider to choose for my TEFL course I came across many good reviews about the TEFL Academy and their outstanding deals and the overall value of their courses. So I chose them! I enjoyed the course, the assignments were challenging enough and there's plenty of materials, tips and further readings given. I feel like I have a good amount of informations and knowledge to try starting a career. I wouldn't have minded doing some more in depth grammar revision during the course, some of it is included but I would have liked a bit more practice through more challenging tests. That's the only downside I can found about the course and in order to teach you will have to do plenty of more revision anyway! The staff are very polite and prompt in responding to any inquiries. Also when you complete the course they give you a big list of websites where to apply for TEFL jobs all over the world and they offer their help with your CV writing. Being unable to travel at the moment, I am looking into on-line teaching/tutoring which I wouldn't have considered before but I can see it happening now!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?

Don't get too stressed over assignments! Read all the given notes carefully, revise the advised units and make a nice work plan for yourself giving a couple of days for each task 😉 You can get overwhelmed easily especially if you really want to do well and get a good grade! Good luck!

I found the Level 5 TEFL Course (168 hrs) to be a very challenging, rigorous, well-structured course that covered all aspects of theory and through the assignments made the best of trying to evaluate students' classroom presentation skills. The online course gave us plenty of access to other online resources so i fell that in terms of theory this course could not be bettered. It was much harder than I expected and I struggled with the course and the demands of a full-time job but the support was fantastic and I got through.

What would you improve about this program?

The only thing that is lacking is the classroom experience to bring TEFL Academy to the same accreditation as the CELTA and Trinity qualifications – the first job I looked at would only accept those certificates which is a bit disheartening.

Myself and my boyfriend did our tefl course with The TEFL Academy. We started in April 2018 and completed it in December 2018. We both worked full-time which is why it took us the extra 3 months to complete the 168 hour course. The course itself is absolutely amazing. It really gives you all the tools you need to put what you already know into practice. If we ever had any trouble the support team were always an email or a phone call away. They're very fast and efficient when it comes to getting back to you. They have excellent customer service. We both throughly enjoyed the course and are now working in Phnom Penh, Cambodia thanks to it. We would, and do, recommend this course whenever we get the chance to. It's 100 percent worth every penny.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?

Be confident, go with the flow. You'll never win unless you try. It's either win or learn.

Why did you choose this program?

I chose the level 5 TEFL combined programme because it offered a good solid course along with a 20-hour classroom practical course. That was definitely the thing that sealed the deal for me.

I had never taught ESL before in my life, let alone managed a class. However, in my previous employment, I worked my way up from a receptionist to sales administrator and eventually had to train new employees in to do my previous roles. I knew I could teach; the TEFL Academy helped with growing my confidence in TEFL.

What did your program provider (or university) assist you with, and what did you have to organize on your own?

My course provider helped us along the way with getting our TEFL course started and with any problems along the way. They do offer internships in host countries with jobs once it's completed. But we decided to sort employment here in Phnom Penh ourselves. We did enough research on working in Cambodia. We felt confident that we could gain employment. But knowing the TEFL Academy offered internships was a safety net, kind of.

What is one piece of advice you'd give to someone going on your program?

The one piece of advise, especially if you're new to teaching, is to take notes while you're doing your course. I have a whole refill pad full from my TEFL course and reference it from time to time. Be prepared for it to be difficult but so rewarding at the same time. What I would say to people thinking of moving abroad and working is: have confidence, be careful, research A LOT, take a leap of faith and enjoy the ride.

What does an average day/week look like as a participant of this program?

I'm not sure if I am what you would call an average person when it comes to taking a TEFL course. My boyfriend and I both worked full-time, 40+ hours a week while taking this course. So our average week would be work Monday to Friday. Wake up Saturday morning, head down to the kitchen, set up our laptops and get studying. Go to sleep, wake up Sunday to do it all over again. It was hard work and some weekends we didn't want to study, but luckily for us, we never had that problem on the same weekend; we always pushed each other to study when the other didn't want to.

Going into your experience abroad, what was your biggest fear, and how did you overcome it? How did your views on the issue change?

I had never moved out of Ireland before, so the whole thing was pretty new and scary for me. But my boyfriend had lived in Australia for 8 years. He was my rock, just full of the assurance that I could do it. My biggest fear was finding a job and an apartment. I knew once I had the two things I would be fine. Which I was. The biggest problem is that the person in your head causing self-doubt. Don't listen to them.

If you had the opportunity to do all over again, what would you change?

A thing I would have done different is, pack fewer clothes.

I don't wear half of what I brought. I brought pictures from home and stuck them straight up once we moved into our apartment, which settled me in straight away. Bring a lot of bandages, bug spray, cold and flu medicines. I have had some minor accidents while traveling. I burnt my leg off a motorbike exhaust 3 days into my holiday in Thailand - disaster. My boyfriend got carpet burn during our first Jiu-Jitsu class. We get sick almost every second week working with kids because they're constantly sick.

Just be prepared for everything :) and most importantly HAVE FUN!!

What is your favorite travel memory?

In 2016, I worked and lived in Disney World Florida. It was the most amazing experience to create magical memories for our guests and to experience living aboard. I grew a lot both personally and professionally during my time working for the Walt Disney Company. Their customer service standards are second to none.

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

I am a very new member of the team; I started 3 weeks ago. Since I began working with The TEFL Academy, I have gained confidence in speaking with others via phone. I have always loved to speak with people and assist them.

In my new role, I get to assist students daily through the course. It is great to engage with new people.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

A student contacted me to get a PDF copy of their certificate; they are currently working out in Japan and it was great to hear how much the student was enjoying this new experience. It is also great to hear the plans current students have for their future after they have successfully completed the course.

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

I would love to do the volunteering in Sri Lanka. I think it would be an amazing experience to give back and meet new people. I have never been to Asia and it is somewhere I would love to experience. It would be great to get to know the people and culture whilst also aiding the local community in some way.

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

We are recognized in both the UK and the US. This gives more credibility to our qualifications and aids our students in their job search. The team is also very dedicated to ensuring our students receive fast, effective assistance when it is required. I am very proud of this and I believe our students are happy with the level of service they experience.

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

There is a great team always ready to assist our students. The team is always on hand to provide support and assistance to our students for the duration of their course. The course content is also varied and gives our students a good insight into teaching English as a foreign language. We offer a free top-up course for every student as well, which I think is great.
