I loved this class. It was just hard enough to keep me on my toes but not impossible. Take the final test seriously and take it in a quiet place. That's important. If you need to take the class faster, it allows you to do that, you can do the work at your own pace. Next, the people that help you with your homework and answer questions- are amazing. They respond really fast and are amazingly helpful. They give you examples and explain everything to you. Words can't describe out considerate the people are in this program.

As a direct result of completing this course I got a job in China! This course not only got me a job, but more importantly made me a better teacher! This course gave me a far better understanding of Chinese classrooms but also made me more aware of theoretical educational concepts! This course has enabled me to follow my dream to move and pursue a career in China! For that alone I can’t review this program any better. However, this process was so pain free for me that I would be remiss to not mention that the support I felt during this program was second to none. I highly recommend it!

What would you improve about this program?

I can’t think of anyway that this course could be made better!

I enjoyed the course as a whole, i feel like it will help me when i get the opportunity to teach abroad. It gave me real life situations and while nothing can totally prepare you, i feel like it’s a good start. It was a challenge but it walks you through any issues you may face. All in all it prepaeed me to teach all ages, from kindergarten yo adults. The staff was very nice and helpful as well.

This was a good TEFL course- there are many out there, but this one was good. I recommend it. You can either just do a little at a time, or the way I preferred to do it was all at once over 2 1/2 weeks, like a job a an office. This proved easier for me because I retained the information,and was able to apply it right away. Good luck to you in your TEFL journey!

Some of the material, especially the videos, could be updated.

Thank you for breaking the course sections into manageable chunks. It was very user friendly, and without complications. Also, the staff were prompt in their responses to my emails and answered any questions I had. I would definitely recommend your course to anyone trying to acquire a TEFL certificate! Actually, I've already recommended your course to my friends. Thank you again for helping me achieve this goal.

Teaching Nomad was helpful with the whole process! I got my TEFL through them, and they were quick to respond to my emails and instructive when I had questions. I had a job lined up in China though a friend, but I got cold feet, so I emailed Teaching Nomad, and they had me connected to several jobs in just a couple of weeks. They acted as a conduit between myself and the school during the visa process as well.

What would you improve about this program?

I wish that they had warned me how difficult it is to get to China; I spent several months waiting for my visa to process in various stages and spent around $2000. At one point had had to fly to the consulate to get fingerprinted.

Thanks for the feedback! I just checked and it looks like you got hired right after the Chinese government introduced all the new criminal background check/degree/TEFL authentication requirements. Most schools and visa agencies now know exactly what is required to process your work permit/visa, and we actually run background checks and do the authentication of documents for US nationals in our Denver office these days. If it's any consolation, you don't have to go through all of this again if you switch positions in China!

I enjoyed this course so I want to thank Teacher Link for providing it.
The course has a lot of information which I think is must for everyone who wishes to become a TEFL certified trainer. I was reluctant at the beginning to complete an online course, but soon after starting it I realized that the course is no joke. It is a comprehensive course that is provides a lot of essential information for future teachers.
The course is packed with videos that were filmed during real classes and it really offers an insight of what it takes to be a teacher. The instructor always promptly answered all my questions and it provided constructive feedback.
I am confident now that I have what it takes to be a successful TEFL trainer.

Why did you choose this program?

My prospective employer in China, Aston English Schools advised me that the Chinese officials who were to grant my work visa required a 120-hour TEFL course in lieu of one year's actual teaching experience. I chose the TEFL course from teachingnomad.com because they offered an authentication service for their certification.

What did your program provider assist you with, and what did you have to organize on your own?

The structure of the course is designed so that the student can proceed at his or her own pace. I've had experience with online courses before at FAU and I've done lesson plans before, so when the course teacher asked me to rewrite my lesson plans in a different format, that for me was not a problem.

What is one piece of advice you'd give to someone going on your program?

I wish I had given myself a week or two extra time so that I wouldn't have felt so rushed. My contract with the school I am to teach at in China begins in a few weeks, and I hope to be on time or at the least, not very late. I am very excited about my new job, and I hope to be teaching in China very soon!

What does an average day/week look like as a participant of this program?

Because it's a private school, Aston must work around the public school schedule, so I am to teach mostly afternoons and weekends. It's a 23-hour work week, with three hours a week in the office going over lesson plans with the Chinese co-teacher, and the other twenty hours actually teaching a class of no larger than ten students.

Going into your experience abroad, what was your biggest fear, and how did you overcome it? How did your views on the issue change?

I've never traveled abroad, so I had to start from scratch – from my passport to my background check to my physical medical tests. All the paperwork had to be prepared in fairly rapid order for my application for the work visa in China. My biggest fear was that the task of so much paperwork was simply too daunting, but I've learned to make a plan and stick to a schedule.

Why did I decide to teach overseas rather than locally?

I discovered in observing the local public school system and later teaching that students can be held back only one year; after that, it's social promotion regardless of ability. I didn't realize the implications for this policy until I started student teaching in my last semester; that's when I realized the usual program wasn't going to work for me.
