This is a unique volunteering project in that your contribution as a volunteer is three-fold: your volunteering assists with construction and renovation tasks, your fees help to pay for materials, and the end product can then be used to host other important community projects. Volunteers help local building projects that would otherwise not be completed, lending time and funds to see them through to completion. Construction & Renovation

Wonderful trip abroad

I had a fantastic time volunteering with IVHQ in Cusco, Peru. Cusco is a fabulous city and I was thrilled with my experience. I found the volunteer work to be rewarding and worthwhile. I volunteered with young children in a rural community center where I helped children with reading, their homework, English language skilsl, and hygiene. Lots of soccer games were played on the beautiful mountains and I formed great relationships with the kids. The volunteers were also able to provide community members with much needed resources, like vitamins and healthy snacks. The house that IVHQ put the volunteers up in was beautiful, the meals were delicious, and I formed great friendships with other volunteers. Cusco was a wonderful place to volunteer for 5 weeks. I also highly enjoyed traveling around the country and volunteering in the Amazon.

Great experience volunteering abroad for first time!

I thought the program was organized very well with the staff helping with pre-trip preparation and helping volunteers get accustomed to the city and new culture. My favourite volunteering activity was teaching English and it was rewarding to see so many enthusiastic students willing to learn. The volunteering program is flexible so you can change positions if you choose to do so at the site. Plenty of time to socialize with other volunteers and time to travel to heritage sites. It was a safe experience and the homestay food was great!

LOVEEE

I spent 22 weeks in Peru as a volunteer. Each day had a variety of different experiences. I volunteered in two different orphanages, where I worked with special needs children, toddlers, and older girls. I was able to run activities with the girls and chase the toddlers all in the same day. I taught English in a public school and summer program. Each day was filled with laughter, joy, and love. I never woke up wishing I was elsewhere or wanting to have a day off. Days off from volunteering, were days I longed for my kids at the orphanages or schools. I can honestly say that it was the best weeks of my life. Do it!

An Amazing Experience in Peru with IVHQ

I spent 3 weeks volunteering in Cuzco, Peru, and I would do it again in a heartbeat. The staff at IVHQ was so helpful in preparing me for everything ahead of time, and they even sent me emails to check up on me while I was there! The local staff was friendly and knew my name by day one. They worked with me to make sure my volunteer experience was exactly what I wanted, and even helped me change projects mid-stay. I spent two weeks in an orphanage, with some really great kids, and then spent the last week in an after-school program. Both places really changed my life, and I have learned more from those kids than I ever expected.

Questions & Answers

Yeah! I actually got there earlier than the program started and went out in Lima on my own. During the program, yes we went out to different bars/discotecas. During the week, however, we had a curfew of 11pm.

There was a wide range of ages! I think you have to be 18 to do this program, and we had 18 year olds, people in their 20s, and we had one or two people in their late 20s/early 30s.

Yes, we can accommodate families on our volunteer programs and our local team can make arrangements to ensure you are accommodated and placed on a project together. To apply to volunteer abroad as a family, one person needs to complete the application process first and select ‘Yes’ to the question ‘Will you be volunteering with a friend, family member or group?’ within the application form. Hi Laurie, according to the IVHQ website, "Volunteers in Lima are accommodated with other volunteers, in either avolunteer house run by a the local coordinator's family or in a homestay." "Volunteers are provided with three meals per day (breakfast, lunch and dinner)." I did an IVHQ program myself and both of those were included in the program.
