About Program

SAVE Volunteering is a Non-Profit Organisation. We are NOT a booking agent: we run, manage and fund all of our Humanitarian and Wildlife Projects with the help of volunteers.

We believe in transparent and sustainable programs that impact our local community and wildlife.

The volunteer fees go towards, food, accommodation, transport, orientation and the rest of the money gets donated to the NPO for running costs such as stationary or meals for the children and meals for the Wildlife.

Join one of our amazing projects and leave with a life-changing experience!

COMMUNITY REVIEWS SUMMARY

Program Highlights

  • Help us better the lives of the children on our Humanitarian projects and the Animals on our Wildlife project.
  • Educate children to better their future on our Humanitarian projects and build structures and homes for our animals on our Wildlife projects.
  • Form a relationship with our children and see the world through their eyes on our Humanitarian projects. Protect Africas Wildlife on our Wildlife projects.
  • Learn about conservation and Africa’s wild animals on our Wildlife projects. Learn about patience and hard work on our Humanitarian projects.
  • Have a close animal encounter with some of the human tolerant animals on our Wildlife projects. Spend time with children in need of your affection and attention on our Humanitarian projects.

Consider your impact: Volunteering abroad can be a rewarding experience for both volunteers and local communities, and at Go Overseas, we believe all volunteers should have the resources to make informed decisions about the type of volunteer project they want to partake in. However, despite best intentions, some organizations offering placements in orphanages may unknowingly place children in danger. You can read about the potential dangers of orphanage volunteering here.

SAVE Experience

On a day to day basis, we were informed on what were needed to do on that day. Because of the holiday recess, the organizational skills were quite choppy. But overall the staff and volunteers were awesome. I had a great time connecting with the children and the people there. I would definitely recommend this program because of the people I worked with and the children.

Do It

Amazing experience. Very worthwhile and eye opening experience as far as volunteering. There is a lot to do in South Africa and it is a very beautiful place. Only warning- be flexible. I was told that I would be teaching basic computer skills and working in a classroom, however that did not happen. What I did instead was still very valuable.

Do NOT go in december

I went to volunteer in December 2013. What a disappointment. Even though I asked them numerous times in advance, it turned out to be holiday progremme, so the programmes were not running. I was supposed to help out with the disabled children, something I would have loved to do, and, as a bonus, would also look good on my resumé. Unfortunately, all I got to do now was just 'play' with the other kids from the townships, to keep them busy. Fun, but not what I had signed up (and payed!) for.

If you are not that keen on volunteering and just want to party a lot, then I can definitely say that it is the place to be. Real volunteering? I honestly do not know, but definitely not during the summer holidays. Very disappointed.

Response from SAVE Volunteering

Dear Volunteer, Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear about your experience. We have since amended our programme over the December holiday period. All schools are closed over this period, however there is always children in the townships that do not go away over the festive period. SAVE still runs its volunteer programmes to cater for these less fortunate kids.

We do make a point of making the volunteer aware of the programme changes when they book over this period as SAVE runs projects up until and including the 25 December.

We are sorry if this was not communicated to you at the time of booking. Your contribution was still meaningful and brought joy to the children that was not fortunate enough to go away or celebrate Christmas like we all know.

Surf&Adventure

I had ten amazing weeks in Cape Town! It turned out to be way better than I ever expected. I was so lucky that I worked on three different places; the computer project, Sarah's, and Elundini! It is fantastic to work at all of those places, and a pretty big challenge as well!
I made a lot of friends during my stay, and I couldn't be more happy! Thank you so much for this awesome time - I will definetly come back!
