Consider your impact: Volunteering abroad can be a rewarding experience for both volunteers and local communities, and at Go Overseas, we believe all volunteers should have the resources to make informed decisions about the type of volunteer project they want to partake in. However, despite best intentions, some organizations offering placements in orphanages may unknowingly place children in danger. You can read about the potential dangers of orphanage volunteering here. Learn more about how Volunteering Solutions is promoting ethical volunteering.

Impact 🌎

As a certified B Corporation, our environmental and social impact is independently measured — and improving it is built into how we operate, not an afterthought. We run conservation-focused programmes, including marine and wildlife projects that help protect fragile ecosystems, and we deliver every project through local partners so the benefits stay in the community long-term. We also encourage longer, lower-impact placements over quick "voluntourism" trips, so the positive impact outlasts the visit.
As a certified B Corporation, we run community-led projects chosen with local partners so that our programmes meet genuine local needs rather than replace paid jobs. Every destination is supported by local, on-ground coordinators and clear safeguarding standards, especially for any work involving children. Transparent, all-in pricing keeps the focus on lasting benefit to host communities.

Popular Programs

Volunteer Teaching in Thailand

As the name suggests, under the Teaching English Volunteer Program in Thailand volunteers are placed at different school setups across Chiang Mai to teach English. Volunteers must understand that the children at these schools come from less privileged families and the administration is not well equipped to handle the quality of their education.

Elephant Care Volunteer Project in Thailand

Volunteers who are wildlife enthusiasts and looking for volunteer opportunities for wildlife conservation and welfare can join the elephant care volunteer program in Chiang Mai. They will be staying at these elephant camps that are located 45 minutes outside mainland Chiang Mai.

Better Balance of Work and Fun

I would have actually preferred to be given more volunteering hours as our working time seem quite minimal and not as impactful as I thought it would be. For instance, in the Surin Childcare Centre, it didn't seem like they needed much help at all as all we did was spending time playing with the children. We didn't organise games for them, but only watch the full-time caretakers conducting their daily activities. Tha Thum was a more meaningful endeavour where we helped plant trees and pick out weeds outside their temple, but we were relieved off our duties much earlier than I personally anticipated, having not completely clearing the weed area. Nevertheless, the leisure part of the program is commendable, particularly the Khao Yai National Park.

On another note, there has been much confusion about the program's start & end date due to the discrepant details seen on the website and our personal volunteer page. More than just a few of us have submitted enquiries about this and urged for the quick amendment on the websites to prevent further confusion, but no action was taken. Many of us also asked when we are meant to fly back upon the end of the program, being unsure of the official ending time of the program. I was personally informed to only leave a day after the aforementioned final day, but was then told that I would have to bear additional cost for staying another day.

The most amazing three weeks!

Summer in Thailand was truly one of the most rewarding experiences I've had. You get to work with elephants and with children, and really get to be immersed in the Thai culture. I highly recommend it!

Questions & Answers

For my particular program it was a mix! In Bangkok, meals weren't provided (BUT VERY CHEAP); in the elephant camp all of our meals were provided and they were delicious! During our second volunteer project, breakfast and lunch were provided, and on the island no meals were provided.

Yes, there are opportunities in Bangkok.

Yes, volunteers will get room and board.

Hi! All the places I stayed were included in the price. I believe the total amount I paid Volunteering Solutions was around $1000 (US), and another $1000 for a round-trip flight. Food is so cheap in Thailand. Someone could budget $10-$15 per week for food and be totally fine. Street food is around $2. I remember someone telling me I could buy a new outfit, a hot meal, and taxi cab ride all for $20...
