My CEA CAPA Experience

I had the most amazing time interning in London. Two things that I think makes this program stand out is 1.) you have the opportunity to have a genuine internship you can put on your resume, and being in foreign city helps boost your resume as well. Second, you are surrounded by students from universities all across the United States. My friends in this program go to Purdue University, University of Pittsburgh, and Michigan State University. I never would have had the privilege of meeting them if I hadn't participated in this internship program!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
I would tell future travelers to take advantage of all the opportunities presented to them. In London (or any European city) you have access to new experiences and cultures that you normally would not have access to. Make the most of your experience. Go new places, try new things, etc.

CEA CAPA London

My time in London with CEA CAPA was one of the greatest experiences in my life. All of the staff I encountered during my time there were incredibly welcoming and helpful. I was easily able to tell that the staff genuinely wanted to help with any situation you had, weather it was academic or not. I really enjoyed all of the activities that the program offered at no additional cost to us, allowing us to experience more of the city in a fun and supported way. The housing would have been better if it had a working elevator when I lived on the sixth level of my flat, other than that the housing was relatively nice. The area I lived in was very nice, and it was relatively far from the center, but it was nice commuting and seeing more of the city on the daily.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
This experience was my first ever time flying in a plane and I was doing it solo. It was stressful and nerve-racking to figure out everything on my own when I first got there, and get trough a city by myself when I have relatively no experience being in a city. I just pushed through my nerves and used my phone and the people around me to help figure out what I needed to do to.
Pros
  • Supportive staff
  • Beautiful city with lots of things to do
  • Free Museums
What other participants should know
  • No elevator
  • Somethings in the city are expensive
  • Long commute

Study and Intern in London

My experience with CEA CAPA was so memorable and flourishing toward my growth personally and professionally. I studied and interned at Marriott International in the Human Resource department. I got exposed into an international internship which was a great opportunity as a sophomore. I was able to have a good class and work schedule to manage visiting 13 countries while abroad in the spring semester of 2026! I met many students from America as well, which felt more like home when going to school.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Go and explore as many places as you can with friends! Find the people who are as adventurous as you, or more!
Pros
  • Good class schedule
  • Great Internship
  • Good school location
What other participants should know
  • Wished I lived closer to school
  • The papers and forms due were given to us in a short time notice
  • A lot of the assignments felt so last minute so me and others felt unprepared going to London.

The Lex Fellowship: London (Summer 2026)

I completed the Lex Fellowship's London program in May 2026, gaining firsthand exposure to London's legal landscape through both classroom study and real-world practice. Most mornings began at a law firm, where attorneys led hands-on activities that gave us a genuine sense of their day-to-day work. In the afternoons, we shifted into a classroom setting, where seminars helped us unpack and contextualize what we'd observed that morning. This balance of practical exposure and academic reflection made the material stick in a way lectures alone couldn't have. The people who I did this program with, stood out just as much as the program. They were hardworking, driven, and genuinely fun to be around, which made the long days feel worthwhile.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
Touring Parliament was a highlight for me. Witnessing firsthand how differently the UK legal system operates, the centuries-old traditions it upholds, and its vast, complex history pushed me to want to learn more. One tradition stood out: slamming the door in the face of the messenger sent to summon the Commons to the House of Lords. The experience deepened my appreciation and understanding of our own legal system back in the US.
Pros
  • The wide variety of food
  • The public transportation system
  • The historical landmarks, tours, gardens, excursions, etc.
What other participants should know
  • The housing (no AC)
  • Travel time to law firms

Absolutely Amazing

CEA Capa's programs, staff, accomodations, and support is more than anything I could have asked for. Going into this experience I was intimidated and not financially fit. However, throughout the application, pre-departure and during departure process they were extremely hands on at communicating every thing that most students need in order to be prepared. CEA Capa is perfect for student's that are independent but still need help when it comes to their first time being out of the country and away from their family!

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would go for a whole semester!!! I did the 6 week summer program and it was perfect for me, my schedule and my relationships back home, however I would 1000% recommend to full-send it, and go for a whole semester. Now is the only time we might have in our lives to be a student and a learner in a country besides our own, for that extensive period of time.
Pros
  • Hands-on learning outside of a classroom
  • Personal freedom (even though you are studying it feels like a break from reality)
  • Amazing food
What other participants should know
  • Away from our comfort zones
  • Possibly spending sooo much money
  • Never wanting to leave the country you are abroad in!

Raindance Film Festival Internship Abroad Experience

My experience with Raindance Film Festival and CEA CAPA has been amazing and transformative, where I learned more about global marketing strategies and other technical marketing skills. As a marketing and hospitality intern, I learned to adapt to new environments, push myself outside my comfort zone, operate a video camera, improve my public speaking skills, and expand my network. Marketing jobs can look like office jobs in the banking industry, or they can look like red carpet and cinema events in the film industry. Don't be discouraged from exploring your interests and browsing industries while you are abroad. If you want a thrilling educational and professional experience abroad, CEA CAPA is for you.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
One thing that I would change is that I would bring professional clothes made for summer and bring less thick clothing. It gets very hot on the Tube, and London is a walking city, so regardless, be prepared to sweat if you are going in the summer and bring good walking shoes that fit for multiple occasions.

CEA CAPA - Best Program Ever!

I had one of the best experiences with CEA CAPA in London, England. They really try their best to match students with the right internship abroad. I am a speech pathology major, so it was difficult trying to find an internship that suited that field of study. I eventually got matched with a school that had a speech therapist come in once a week, and I got to work closely with her! It truly was an enlightening experience, and I could not be more grateful to CEA CAPA for providing me with lifelong connections abroad!

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
For me, the most unfamiliar thing I ate was chicken bhuna, which a very flavorful Bengali curry that has little to no spice. I had never really had an interest in Indian food until I went to London, and CEA CAPA had hosted a curry night at Brick Lane for their students. A couple of my friends and I went, and we tried pappadum with various chutneys, and all of them were delicious. The chicken bhuna, however, has to be my favorite simply because it was so different from anything I've ever consumed, and the dish was just bursting with flavor. It was certainly a 10/10 foodie experience!
Pros
  • Amazing and supportive staff (professors, internship team, excursions team).
  • Excursions both in and out of the city (Greenwhich boat tour, Houses of Parliament, Tower of London, Oxford, Bath/Stonehenge, Liverpool, Curry nights, Theatre night,etc.).
  • Flexible schedules (Fridays off for non-internship students, half days/full days/asynchronous options for internships).
What other participants should know
  • Up to 50 minute commute to classes and possibly further to internship depending on where you are placed.
  • The 3 hour classes can get a bit tiresome and overwhelming at times (they are only once a week, but you still feel exhausted afterwards).
  • There are no quiet study rooms in the building, only a student lounge that can get quite noisy at certain parts of the day.

Summer Study and Internship in London

Overall, I had a great experience in this program. I took advantage of most of the day trips and activities they offered, which were awesome. The day trips were to Stonehenge and Bath one day and to Dover Castle and Canterbury another. It was amazing to have these trips pre-planned with transportation and tour guides arranged ahead of time, and all of the locations were gorgeous. I also loved the activities they offered, like Curry Night, Theatre Night (I saw Hadestown!), the Greenwich Boat Tour, and others.

I think that apart from these trips and activities, the greatest gift that CEA CAPA gave us was prepaid Oyster cards. This meant we could travel anywhere in zones 1 and 2 by tube and anywhere in London by bus, included in the cost of our program. That gave us such freedom to get wherever we wanted to go in the city and do and see a lot outside of what was organized by the program.

My classes were not terribly demanding, but they helped me engage more deeply with my internship, the city, and my peers. I took Writing the City: London with about seven other people, which was great because I feel we all really got to know each other through our writing and during our class field trips around London. We explored Covent Garden and read a passage aloud about how it looked hundreds of years ago, looked out at the Thames as we read about the time it iced over, and had a great little goodbye picnic in Kensington Gardens, eating scones and reading an excerpt from Peter Pan. The assignments encouraged us to take inspiration from the city in lots of different ways, and it helped me be creative in my writing and dive a little deeper into my experience abroad. I would also consider some of my classmates to be the closest friends I made in London, and I hope to keep in touch with them! In my Global Internship Course, I did some resume work, a mock interview, and overall got comfortable with distilling and sharing the value of my internship experience. Everyone loved the professor too, and he brought us British snacks every class from Gloucester cheese to Viennese Whirls.

My internship with Rix Inclusive Research gave me a great diversity of experience with different kinds of people and work. I got to sit in on a meeting with Rix and visiting Egyptian professors from Cairo about inclusivity in education. I also got to tag along with them on a tour of a local school that is specifically equipped to support kids with disabilities. Sitting in on a class there and getting to try out some of their assistive technology was really cool as well! On a more consistent basis, I helped out with outreach at an upstart cafe that employs deaf and hard-of-hearing baristas, and got to learn a bit of British Sign Language while I was there. Later on in my internship, I was also able to connect with some locals at Airthrie, a group living facility for adults with learning disabilities. I was there with my fellow interns to chat about health technology like FitBits and exercising, but we’d also get off topic and talk about our favorite spots in London, compare elements of the UK to our experience in the U.S., and discuss one resident’s upcoming birthday party. Both conversations felt equally valuable!

And, need I remind you, this was all over the course of six weeks!

One downside to the experience for me was the housing. The kitchen in my flat was smelly when we moved in and remained that way throughout the program. I spotted a mouse that disappeared into a hole under the cabinetry, and we often had small flies come in through the windows as soon as there was anything in the trash. This was exacerbated by the fact that my roommates did not keep up well with washing their dishes, so there was food residue sitting on the plates and things in the sink. Additionally, there was construction going on in the lobby throughout most of the program, including a few days where we had to enter and exit the building through the fire doors. A maintenance worker also arrived in our flat one morning, not by our request and without notice, and said that he was there to change the fans in the bathrooms. The area was quite residential, which had its pros and cons (really accessible grocery stores, nearby tube station, slightly unnerving feeling at night) but overall I didn't take issue with it and my flatmates and I all had no incidents. There was other housing that other people in the program were assigned that seemed to be better quality.

The other hard thing for me, not related to this program in particular but to studying abroad in general, was that I found it difficult to consistently get enough sleep. That's something to keep in mind when trying to fit everything into your experience! It's really important to rest sometimes too.

In the end, I don't have any regrets about my program, and I think I had a really valuable experience and just a great time in England overall.
