Emily Cipriani's review of the French Riviera

My experience of the French Riviera was magical. I was slightly apprehensive about my program because I did not know anyone and I was so far from home. However, all my worries faded away as quickly as the jet lag did. I felt like I had landed in a storybook land. The French Riviera is so unique and charming. Our first week of orientation quickly bonded the students, and I knew that I was making friendships that would last beyond our semester together. Studying abroad broadened my horizons, sharpened my critical thinking skills, and made me a more well-rounded individual. I am incredibly grateful for the experience.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
Dune board in the desert!
Pros
  • Independence
  • well traveled
  • improved language proficiency
Cons

Great Experience

This was an extremely unique trip that created a lot of lifelong connections for me, including peers in the program and staff at the education building. CEA CAPA also does trips outside of Prague and it was extremely fun and allowed me to visit new areas within Czech Republic I would have never seen! Additionally, exploring a new culture is an amazing experience that I have been able to talk about in both professional and social settings and has allowed me to gain a new outlook/perspective on many different things in my life!

Review of Study Abroad - Dublin, Ireland

My flight to Dublin was my first flight ever. Needless to say I was nevous not only about the travel but being that far away from my home. Ireland and CEA CAPA both made me feel so comforted and at home. I was able to comfortably travel not only Ireland but other parts of the world which was so special to me. The things that I have learned while abroad are things I will never forget. School was so different and helpful to me and it has really improved my look at education going into my senior year. My time abroad was the best time of my life, I was able to grow not only in my eduacation but also in my personal development.

What was your funniest moment?
One of my funniest moments was with my professor Darren Kelly. He was a very high energy man and he was the teacher of my analyzing the global cities class where we walked around Dublin. At the end of class he turns to us and says "well ive gotta run I will see you next week" and he all of a sudden sprinted away from the entire class. We had so many fun moments with out professors which is something I will never forget.
Pros
  • Traveling to many different countries
  • Experiencing a new way of education
  • Meeting so many new and different people that I would not have met otherwise
Cons
  • Expensive
  • Long classes were a bit exhausting

An incredible and unique experience!

I absolutely loved my time here! The CEA CAPA staff did a phenomenal job helping us feel supported in a new and scary environment. Being in a new country where I didn't know anyone and didn't speak the language was terrifying but thanks to the amazing team, I felt supported and understood the whole time I was there. When I needed help finding a psychiatrist and therapist there, they pointed me to where I could find someone covered by the insurance and then helped me file my claims when I did find those providers. They also planned excursions that not only showed us the city but also showed us other parts of the Czech Republic as well. Overall, it was an amazing program, and I'd highly recommend to to anyone, especially people who might be scared of studying abroad alone.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Don't wait until halfway through the program to start exploring or traveling (if those are thing you want to do, which I'd highly recommend). I wish I'd gone out the first couple of weeks to explore the city instead of waiting until later in the semester, it makes the city feel more like home when you've taken time to explore!

Studying abroad in Barcelona through CEA CAPA

My study abroad experience was everything that I could have wanted. Through CEA CAPA, I was able to participate in their content creator program, so I was able to develop my professional skills outside of doing an internship.

I had the privilege of living in a beautiful Spanish-style apartment during my semester, where I lived with 2 friends and 4 new girls from other universities who quickly became my closest friends. I would recommend CEA to anyone considering studying abroad!

CEA had so many opportunities to get to know other students in the program that getting acclimated was very easy for me. While there were times I felt homesick or out of place, CEA was always there to support me and motivate me to continue to put in the effort.

Rome is Amazing

Studying abroad in Rome was an incredible experience that combined academics with cultural immersion. Through the CEA CAPA program, I was able to take engaging courses on Rome’s religious and cultural history while visiting historic sites like the Vatican Museums, St. Peter’s Basilica, and the Catacombs of San Callisto for free with class. Living and learning in one of the best neighborhoods in Rome helped me grow more independent and gave me a deeper appreciation for the world beyond the classroom. I loved living with locals, trying new food, and having so much support from my program to make the best of this experience.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
Traveling alone to Rome for the first time! I was so nervous about leaving and being abroad alone, but it made me more independent and self-reliant. As soon as I arrived in Rome my nerves went away.
Pros
  • Live with locals
  • Cheap living
  • Program provides and sets everything up for you
Cons
  • Mainly just business class offerings

Would Recommend for Any Pre-Med/Pre-PA Student

Shadowing and interning in Barcelona was so much fun in addition to being extremely informative. Being able to pursue your professional and personal goals in another country gave me the opportunity to grow and compare systems in Spain and the US. I would tell any prospective students not to worry about the language barrier. While I think it was helpful for me to know some preliminary Spanish, it was certainly not required. Also, when you get there, the team on site is super helpful in navigating you around the city and from the airport.

Memories for Life

I am so grateful for my time abroad. My internship boss was flexible with my school schedule and my travels so that I could work whenever possible. It was about a 30 minute bus ride over to the internship site - 3 days in person 2 remote. I was expected to work 20 hours a week which was fine, but expect to have much less free time than your peers. I think I benefited more from the cultural immersion that the internship provided rather than the actual work I was doing. Something challenging for me was that I came to Barcelona solo and it seemed like a lot of people came with groups of friends. It took me a second to find my people, but once I did, it was amazing to travel with them almost every weekend and experience the great city of Barcelona.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
The first time I walked into a cafe and ordered in Spanish it was so nerve racking. I had a whole script memorized and the lady asked me a question that I did not anticipate and I froze. After this interaction, every interaction after became easier and by the end I was very comfortable going to stores/restaurants and speaking Spanish.
Pros
  • Great Travel Oppurtunities
  • Good professional experience
  • Personal growth
Cons
  • Lonely at first
  • Internship is a big commitment

The best semester!

I loved studying abroad in Prague! I felt very supported by CEA CAPA. We had amazing housing relatively close to our schools but also extremely convenient to restaurants, night life, museums, nature, and public transportation. The apartments were nice, and any issues were usually solved within a day or two (we had an issue with our washer and a light in our apartment). The study center where I had half of my classes was conveniently located and always stocked with snacks and coffee! My experience with the CEA CAPA instructors was also great. The city of Prague is just magical and a perfect home base for abroad. I had great food, amazing sights, convenient and cheap public transportation, fun nightlight, lots of nature and parks and so much more.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
One tip for getting around the city is to always have your transportation pass on you! There will be random checks from officials who show you a badge (a little silver and red key chain) and expect you to show your pass on the tram, metro, or busses. The first time it happened to me I had no idea what was going on and was super nervous but all you have to do is let them scan your pass. CEA CAPA helped guide us on how to get the pass and it was very affordable! Never get caught without your pass or you'll get a huge fine!
Pros
  • Such a beautiful city with so many different areas with distinct vibes-- the apartments they placed us in were in a super cool area!
  • Lots of options for classes that teach you more about the city you're living in (I highly reccomned taking one like this)
  • The food is so comforting and filling! It's underrated
Cons
  • No amount of time could ever be enough
  • You have to miss it when you leave

CEA CAPA Prague, Czech Republic - Maya Moranda

As cliche as it sounds, I truly fell in love with Prague. I never got bored of it during the four consecutive months I studied there. I made ever-lasting connections with other students from all over the United States, as well as students who were from the Czech Republic. CEA CAPA was constantly providing their support and I loved getting to go on several class trips. It was a very unique way to learn about the course material and get to see the city simultaneously. I would urge students that if they have the opportunity to go abroad to never pass it up. You will be eternally grateful that you trusted yourself to study in another country, as scary as it might sound.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
My advice is to stay in the city for as long as you can. There are countless things to do and explore.
Pros
  • near other popular destinations
  • walkable
  • public transportation
Cons
  • busy
