An amazing time in Rome.

If you want to study abroad in Europe, specifically Italy or Rome, then this program is great. There were several opportunities offered by CEA sign up for activities in Rome. The location of the school is great too, so you can walk around in some of the most beautiful parts of the city before or after class. We had a great experience with housing. Our apartment was in a great location and only a few minutes away from the Vatican. Rome has so much to offer which makes it a lot of fun to check off as many things as you can week after week. And if you end up going, my recommendation would be to get apertivo frequently anywhere in the city.

Pros
  • Really great housing in one of the best neighborhoods in Rome.
  • Classes with professors who could relate to living in a foreign country but also give advice on navigating Italy and Rome.
  • Endless opportunities to explore the city.
Cons
  • Sometimes it can be hard to focus on academics when there is so much to do around you.

Summer II Granada, Spain

Granada, Spain was so amazing! My Cea Capa group was smaller which gave each of us the opportunity to know each other on a more personal level! Also, one of our excursions (provided by Cea Capa) was to Morocco, Africa! I had so much fun on the excursion, while our group was there, we were able to ride camels, shop in the markets, and eat lunch local families! In addition, Cea Capa planned local events in Granada for us to attend (if we wanted), but the events were spaced out so that we could plan our own events or excursions on the side!

What was your funniest moment?
My funniest moment was the time I accidently bought a baguette at a local pastry shop. I laughed so hard at my miscommunication! Thankfully, my host mom was able to use the bread for one of our meals!
Pros
  • Fun excursions
  • Helpful and reliable Cea Capa team
  • Amazing host families
Cons
  • Office hours changed during the Summer

Experiencing Sydney!

Going abroad with CEA CAPA was amazing. I had the opportunity to immerse myself in the bustle of a major global city and experience the diverse Australian culture. The flexible class schedule also allowed me to travel almost every week to incredible destinations I would have never otherwise had the chance to visit. Exploring the city of Sydney itself was also made fun and easy with class field trips to destinations, and through the program's providing students a public transit card that allowed us to use it for free!

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
Vegemite. I have never tasted a spread so salty.
Pros
  • Flexible
  • Immersive
  • Fun
Cons
  • Sydney is expensive

Spring 2024 Alicante, Spain

Studying abroad is something I had wanted to do for as long as I could remember. Getting this opportunity was an absolute dream and CEA CAPA made it so incredibly easy and so much fun. For this location specifically, my on campus advisors were so involved and planed so many fun trips and activities for us to do to learn more about the culture and city we lived in. One thing I recommend if you are planning on studying abroad in Alicante is to not live on campus. You get to experience to much more of the culture and local lifestyle when living in the city apartments. Plus the public transportation is incredible but again speak to the advisors about recommendations, they were so helpful when I made my decision.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Don't be afraid to explore. It feels like you have so much time when you start but it does go by quickly. One thing I regret is not exploring, traveling and experiencing more. It is so easy and cheap to travel around and outside of Spain. You also need to be willing to go with the flow. Things aren't always going to go as planned but that is a majority of the adventure. The best advice I can give is to just do it. I promise you will not regret it.
Pros
  • Easy to navigate and get around the city
  • Very safe, locals are very inviting if you are respectful
  • Small but popular city, not overrun with tourists but enough people to make it so much fun.
Cons
  • On campus housing
  • (for spring time) water stays cold until mid to late april

Fashion Studies in Paris CEA CAPA

CEA offered great stuff both in and out of the classrooms. There were super awesome and really experienced professors that I learned a lot from. They also hosted a ton of events and outings with the students that helped to take advantage of being in Paris and make a lot of friends in the program. They even planned a weekend trip where we got to go to Normandy. We stayed in a nice hotel and they provided our meals. We saw a lot of cool museums and the beautiful beaches of Normandy. I also loved the cultural exchange they held during the semester where were able to meet and interact with other local Parisian students!

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
I tried escargot! I was worried about what the texture would be like but it was actually really yummy and way less weird than I was expecting.
Pros
  • There is always something to do in Paris.
  • They have a really convenient public transportation system.
  • CEA CAPA made sure I was able to make the most of my experience.
Cons
  • Language barrier
  • Very different cultural norms
  • Long commute to the academic center

Amazing Experience with CEA Capa in Florence, Italy

This summer I studied abroad with CEA Capa for 4 weeks in Florence, Italy and it was an adventure of a lifetime. I went into the program not knowing anyone and I can say I came out with my best friends. From the start CEA made it such a smooth welcoming process for me, applying and getting ready abroad was surprisingly easy and there were so many individuals that were there to help. Once I made it to Florence everything ran just as smooth, all the onsite staff were beyond informative and welcoming, they planned amazing excursions and activities for the students to participate in. One of my favorite memories was the big welcome dinner, being able to meet everyone that was equally as excited as me to explore Florence was amazing. The city itself has so much to offer from amazing food, nightlife, beautiful scenery, I was truly never bored. As well as there are amazing day and weekend trips easily accessible by trains/bus/flights.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
Taking a private boat with my best friends in Positano and went to a private beach, went cliff jumping, swam in a cave. It was truly a magical experience.
Pros
  • Food and city life is amazing
  • Incredible views and close day trips by train/bus
  • History and museums rich in education
Cons
  • Traveling in the summer was very hot, can be more exhausting since you are walking so much

Study Abroad in Barcelona

My experience in Barcelona was incredibly valuable. Living abroad brings many unknowns, and it is crucial for students to feel supported during the experience. The resources provided by the CEA CAPA team made the entire pre-departure and arrival process feel comfortable and encouraging. There were many opportunities to meet others in the program, attend weekend trips, and volunteer in the local community. I would certainly recommend this program to anyone who values adventure, personal growth, academics, cultural immersion, and gaining new experiences.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
When living abroad for a limited time, many students want to travel frequently; even as much as every weekend. While it is fun and exciting to see so many new places, I'd recommend spending as much time in your host city as possible!
Pros
  • Volunteer and internship opportunities
  • Excursions
  • Cultural immersion activities
Cons
  • Very large program

Rome Abroad Review

Going abroad was one of my best decisions I've made during college and going abroad to Rome with CEA was an even better decision. CEA was so helpful in making the transition from the United States to Italy easy. They made a stressful and hard process very unproblematic and smooth. CEA was helpful with every step of preparation including visa, housing, etc. while we were still in the US and the second we landed they had vans to bring us to our apartments and school. They had so many opportunities and events both optional and required that were so fun and so culturally enriching. They sponsored a guided tour of the city, a Vatican dome climb, weekend excursions to different places in Italy, events where you could try local foods and drinks, and much more. Rome has such a fun and amazing night life with so many things to do, but it's still so much more than that. You can feel the amount of history and culture in every cobble stone, every conversation, and every bite of carbonara. Being paired with an Italian roommate from Rome was one of the best parts of this program. My American roommates and I became such good friends with him and his knowledge and experiences made our time there that much better. He has made plans to visit us this Spring and we are all so excited because he really became one of our best friends. If I could I would go abroad again and I would do it exactly how I did it the first time!

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
The most unfamiliar thing I ate was when I was in Sardinia. I had eaten horse meat as a cutlet in a sandwich and let's just say I will be sticking to chicken. Even though I didn't fully love it, I was so excited to try it. My friends and I made it a priority to eat the local food every time we travelled and most of the times something seemed "weird" or unfamiliar it was actually delicious.
Pros
  • Different activities hosted by CEA made it so easy to live as a Roman and fully immerse myself in the culture.
  • Having a roommate from Rome was so great. He became one of our best friends and helped us get to know other Italians and really live as Italians do.
  • The teachers at the school are so kind, caring, and fun.
Cons
  • The classes meet once a week for three hours which allows for more free time but often times felt long.

My experience in Sevilla

I had such a great time in Sevilla! It will always have a place in my heart. I lived alongside 3 other girls in an apartment. Our apartment was a 10 min walk from CEA CAPA and a 15 min walk from University of Sevilla. I was about a 5 min walk from the city center, too! We really were blessed with a great location. CEA CAPA does a great job of teaching you about the location you're studying about. We had an orientation to learn about the traditions, customs, holidays, and more. We learned about proper etiquette when out with friends and for dinner, as well as we learned about the possible dangers to keep an eye out for. We didn't have Friday classes which was AWESOME for travelling! I went on 2-3 trips that were included through CEA CAPA and about 10 others on my own with my roomates! My classes at USS were pretty tough due to it being fully in Spanish, but it was easy to reach out for help. I loved my class at CEA CAPA too! I took a total of 12 credits (could've taken more) because I wanted to spend more time enjoying my life there which was a great choice. My classes all transferred beautifully and I had no issues with that. Since I did it co-sponsored, nothing affected my GPA either! My only complaint would be that my medication I take in the United States was not allowed in Spain. It wasn't advertised enough that I can get a substitute with CEA CAPA's help. I did end up getting a substitute, however it was a little far into the semester. I wish I had reached out earlier. I really don't have any complaints other than that. CEA CAPA helps guide you through every step you need to make sure your time abroad sails smoothly. I think about my experiences every day, and I wish nothing more than to go back. I would recommend using CEA CAPA for your next study abroad experience!

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
My phone was unfortunately pick-pocketed when I visited London with my friends. It was very scary and nerve-racking; however, my friends were great. They stuck by me and helped me turn off my phone from afar so none of my information would be stolen. I overcame this by purchasing a fanny pack to keep my phone in moving forward. I was lucky because I had an extra phone back in Sevilla, but it was still bad. I think I never thought I would be pick-pocketed because I am aware of my surroundings, but this taught me to ALWAYS have zippers and carry a fanny pack underneath my shirts/jackets and to never be too careful!
Pros
  • I made 3 lifelong friends I didn't know before!
  • I went to 13 different cities/countries.
  • I made memories that I will never ever forget and I have grown immensely as a person and a traveler!
Cons
  • I didn't get my meds until too late
  • Had to air dry my laundry ! (This sounds a little spoiled so I don't know if it's a con persay, but it was different!)

Must have opportunity

My time studying abroad was genuinely one of the most influential periods of time in my life so far. Not only did I grow in my academic field of Hispanic Studies, but I also grew so much as a person. During this time I realized how capable I was and my confidence grew immensely. Studying abroad can definitely be a scary experience, however, CEA CAPA supported me throughout my time abroad so that I did not worry about the little things, but was able actually enjoy the little things throughout my trip.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
Honestly, the most nerve-racking moment was boarding the plane to leave for Spain. In that moment it hit me that I was on my way to a foreign country all by myself. However, CEA CAPA made me feel so safe and cared for by contacting my frequently before, during, and after my travels to assure that everything went smoothly.
Pros
  • Confidence building
  • Self reflection
  • New friends
Cons
  • Price
  • Discomfort
  • Change
