Studying in Cheng Du

I really enjoyed this experience because we went to many different very interesting places, also I was glad to be able to experience in depth the chinese culture especially getting the opportunity to try many typical chinese dishes . All my interactions with people have been positive and I have always felt good throughout this experience. My teacher Amber was really great and thanks to her I learned allot of new vocabulary and can now speak Chinese more fluidly. Overall this was a very good and positive experience.

Learning Chinese in Chengde

Learning Chinese with the Keats school in Chengde is an amazing and immersive experience for anyone who would truly like to learn the language in a fun and immersive environment. As a smaller city everything is very immersive and provides many opportunities for daily use of the Chinese you may already know or are currently learning. Teacher Zhang is also a great instructor who cares deeply about making sure his students are learning well and having a good experience. Along with this Chengde is a beautiful city the provides great walks through parks along the river, beautiful national parks, beautiful temples, and delicious food. The people are also very welcoming and enthusiastic of any opportunity to speak to someone who is not from China and show them a good time and share their culture. There is also plenty to do at night from food stands, to night markets, to fun bars. I would highly recommend KEATS and Chengde for anyone who truly wants an immersive experience to get a good grasp of the Chinese language and culture.

The most unfamiliar thing I ate was either Pig snout or Duck tongue and both of them were good and I would eat them again if provided the opportunity.

My week at Keats

Sad to leave, but my week at Keats has come to an end. I have now completed 20 hours of studying the Mandarin Chinese language, and what an incredible experience it has been. Thank you to the Keats School and all the amazing teachers and staff who supported us every step of the way. From the excellent facilities and well-planned lessons to the excursions and welcoming community, everything exceeded my expectations. As a 30-year-old Australian, this was well outside my comfort zone, but I’m so glad I took the leap. I’ll definitely be back to continue my studies in the near future.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
If I could do this all over again, I’d 100% stay for longer.
For such a short period of time, I learnt so much. Not just about the language but about myself, the culture, the people.
If I had more time I would have stayed for longer. I will be back.
Pros
  • The amazing teachers
  • The facilities
  • Meeting new people
Cons
  • Time. I only had one week at Keats.

3 weeks stay

I spent 3 weeks at Keats School in Chengdu, and I'm happy with my progress. My Chinese improved, especially my reading skills.

The teachers were good — patient, professional, and always encouraging. They adapted each lesson to my level and goals, which made learning efficient and enjoyable.

The location is super convenient: the metro is just a 2-minute walk away, and there's a convenience store and a bakery right downstairs. The room was comfortable and clean, and I really enjoyed the terrace — a great spot to relax or review lessons.

Three meals a day are provided, which makes life much easier. The whole environment feels clean, safe, and well-maintained. Most importantly, I always felt supported — staff and teachers are genuinely there to help you with anything.

Almost every day there are cultural activities planned by the school. You can join or not. It is always fun.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Make sure your learning goals are known by the school. Let them know your actual level so you can improve efficiently.
Pros
  • Comfortable
  • Convenient

Classes in Kunming!

I loved everything about the school. Willow and Wang are very helpful with all things about life at the school and getting around Kunming. Registration with Mandy was excellent, fast, and easy.

Classes with LiLaoShi were fun but also hard work which is effective in learning. She also took me on trips to shop, to see, and to do things that I could not do by myself.

I also really enjoyed the food and eating in the dining room with all the different students. It is fun that they are from all over the world, all different ages, and different levels of abilities in speaking Chinese.

The evening activities were fun introductions to various aspects of Chinese culture. And the weekend trips were excellently organized opportunities to view many famous cites of Kunming and Yunnan province

Chinese

The Beijing campus of KEATS offers excellent service and high-quality teaching. The teacher is warm and considerate, arranging cultural field trips regularly. The teacher is professionally trained for teaching Mandarin. Lessons focus on oral practice as well as HSK exam preparation. The classrooms are tidy, and the study room is available for students. I have made steady progress in my Chinese here. i’m going to use what i‘ve learned in my daily life. I visited the Forbidden City and the Temple of Heaven. I had a wonderful time. Thank you so much for your thoughtful care. I really enjoyed studying here.

Excellent stay at Keats Chengdu

I had an excellent experience at Keats Language School in Chengdu and would highly recommend it to serious Chinese learners. One of the greatest strengths of the school is its flexibility. The course content, daily schedule, and teaching approach were adjusted closely to my individual wishes, current level, and learning objectives. I never felt that I was being pushed through a rigid standard programme. Instead, the school listened carefully to my requirements and adapted the lessons accordingly.

I was especially impressed by the teaching quality of Wang Laoshi. She is highly professional, patient, well prepared, and very good at identifying the areas where a student needs the most improvement. Her explanations were clear and precise, and she managed to make even difficult HSK 6 vocabulary, grammar, and reading material easier to understand and apply. She also adjusted the pace and focus of the lessons whenever necessary, which made the intensive programme both challenging and productive.

During my stay, I felt that I made a genuine leap forward towards completing HSK 6. My vocabulary, reading comprehension, confidence, and ability to express more complex ideas in Chinese all improved noticeably. The combination of high-quality one-to-one teaching, personalised lesson planning, and the school’s willingness to accommodate individual needs made the programme extremely valuable. I am very grateful to Wang Laoshi and the Keats team for such a positive and effective learning experience.

Keats is the best school so far

The course in Keats school exceeded all our expectations. It was individual 1-to-1 for our 13 and 14 year olds sons, one week in Shanghai and one week in Zhangjaijei.

The studies were not only extremely effective, but real fun too, the daily excursions were fascinating.

We are very grateful to Li, who instilled in our elder kid enough confidence to start talking Chinese with ease.

We appreciate immensely the efforts of Amber, who made our younger boy get really focused and start communicating in Chinese. Amber did very hard job, as the junior kid's linguistic capacities are not very strong, and he normally is not very interested by languages, however this time he was really happy to learn.

We had been in other Mandarin schools in China and Singapore during last year for short courses, and they were really great schools. But Keats impressed us way more, we will definitely be back to continue.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
Take a longer course
Pros
  • very high efficiency
  • absolutely fascinating
Cons
  • none

To Keats School

I spent a truly warm and fulfilling time studying at Kitz Chinese School. I think the school and the three teachers are all wonderful, and I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Teachers Gong, Yang, and Wang.

I am especially grateful to Teacher Gong for the academic aspect. Teacher Gong is professional and wholehearted in his teaching, dedicating himself entirely to guiding the Chinese language. His explanations are meticulous and clear; he teaches everything step-by-step, from studying Chinese characters and grammar to conversational expressions and writing practice. He also provides supplementary guidance on my weaknesses one by one, helping me to steadily build my Chinese skills. Thanks to Teacher Gong's attentive guidance, my Chinese proficiency has improved noticeably, and studying has become increasingly easier.

In my daily life, having Teachers Yang and Wang always by my side looking after me was a great help. Both teachers are truly gentle and kind, always looking after my daily life and my state of mind. Whenever I faced difficulties or felt lost, they would be the first to reach out and offer a helping hand, solve my problems, and comfort me, meticulously looking after my daily routine.

While studying here, Teacher Gong meticulously guided my studies, and Teachers Yang and Wang warmly watched over my daily life. Although I had left my hometown, I felt secure and warm inside. I consider myself truly lucky to have met these three responsible and warm teachers, and I highly recommend Keats Chinese School!

My Language Stay at Keats School in Kunming

From April to June 2026, I spent eight weeks learning Mandarin at Keats School in Kunming, studying for six hours a day from Monday to Friday. My schedule was split into two hours of morning classes with Ms. Pi and four hours of afternoon classes with Ms. Li. At the beginning, the teachers checked my language level and created a personalized lesson plan for me.

Morning and Afternoon Classes:

In the morning classes, I started by orally describing my previous day, which Ms. Pi wrote down for me while correcting my mistakes. Afterward, we reviewed vocabulary and grammar. What I enjoyed most was taking a simple sentence and gradually expanding it, which gave me a much better feel for Chinese sentence structure. I was also given help with practical, everyday questions outside of school, such as how to use a Chinese smartphone. Once a week, we explored places outside the classroom to use what we had learned directly in real situations.

The afternoon sessions were a balanced mix of reinforcing new vocabulary, listening comprehension, pronunciation drills, reading texts, and learning new stuff. I was particularly impressed by how perfectly prepared Ms. Li always was. Even when I occasionally went off-topic, she quickly brought the focus back to learning, allowing us to cover a massive amount of material. Because both teachers coordinated closely regarding my progress, it really helped me make fast progress. I had highly interesting, inspiring conversations and wonderful experiences with both of them.

The School Environment and Life in Kunming:

Within the eight weeks, I already felt by week four that learning Chinese is absolutely doable. In the school environment and among the staff, Chinese is spoken first, English is only used as a backup if you are completely stuck. This helps immensely in making rapid progress with the language.

The school and the student accommodations are located in the same building, which is incredibly convenient. Furthermore, breakfast, lunch, and dinner are provided in school. You can also make great use of your Chinese skills during lunch breaks and while sharing meals. I would definitely recommend booking a room directly at the school, as it makes it very easy to connect with other students. The school offers an excellent all-round program that aims to include everyone. Both Mandarin beginners and advanced learners can have a fantastic time here.

Every day after school and on weekends, there are activities and excursions where you can get to know Kunming, its surroundings, and fellow students. A different teacher leads each activity, so you get to know the other teachers too.

City and Nature:

The city of Kunming is much more relaxed than other Chinese metropolises because it is not quite as crowded and has grown more naturally. Unfortunately, nothing of the original old town is left in the city center, aside from reconstructions, you have to look a bit outside the center to find historical neighborhoods. The nature around Kunming is beautiful, characterized by its unique red soil. The nearby mountains offer a fantastic view of the city, and the path leading across the large lake is an absolute must-see.

Conclusion:

The two months went by so fast, and I wish I could have stayed longer at the school and in the city. In those eight weeks, my Mandarin improved from HSK 2 to HSK 3. I am already considering returning to this school or exploring one of their other locations. Studying with my teachers, Ms. Pi and Ms. Li, brought me a lot of joy and was an unforgettable experience.
