Four Weeks at Keats

I recently spent four weeks at Keats Language School in Kunming (April 2026), and the experience was fantastic.

I enrolled in their intensive six-hour one-on-one classes. Before arriving, I only knew the very basics, but by my final week, I was happy to find myself holding simple conversations with people outside of the school!

The teachers are incredibly cool, highly professional, and dedicated to helping you succeed. The facilities are comfortable, and the school organizes daily evening activities that makes connecting with fellow students very easy.

Beyond the classroom, Kunming is a great city to live in and explore during your studies. If you want to see real progress, I highly recommend Keats!

Great experience at KEATS

Thanks to Teacher Li, Claire and Mandy I had a wonderful first three weeks of 1:1 classes at KEATS Chengdu. My main aim was to improve fluency and thanks to Teacher Li, I succeeded. Every day we spent four hours learning new vocabulary and grammar but more importantly, discussing daily life, what plans I have and what I did in Chengdu the day before. This greatly improved my fluency and also my overall confidence speaking Chinese. I am very grateful to Teacher Li for her well prepared classes and look forward to continue my learning journey at KEATS Kunming.

My experience in Kunming

Kunming is a big city (as per foreigners standars, not chinese standars). There are a lot of activities to do.

I am happy that i chose the school in Kunming, because we have a different activity organized in the school every day. Wednesday activitites are my favorite, we learn something about the culture, and sometimes is handcraft.

Regarding the lessons, I am really happy with my teacher (李老师). Her lessons were thought for my level and my time available. The lessons were dinamic and fun. I learnt a lot.

I do know if we are coming to China we know there will be cultural differences and we have to be prepared for that. My spicy tolerance is low, and the low here is still spicy for me hehe. There are a lot of options (mostly if you have Meitian, you can order anything anytime {for Meitian you need Chinese phonenumber}). In the school they help us to install all the necessary apps.

I would recommend to be prepared to always have battery in your phone, because it is necessary for daily life: take the metro, pay for a coffe, etc.

Overall, it is a really nice opportunity to experience the culture and improve the chinese level of understanding, speaking and listening.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
I think I was kinda prepared for some cultural differences, but not for all.
I do know that the bathrooms were different than the western, but it still surprise me when I had to go in public spaces hehe. But the disabled bathrooms are like the western so it was not so unfamiliar.

On other hand, there are a lot of food shops, everywhere. You really can buy food everywhere. I think people here likes to eat.

Also to saw letters that said "not spitting here". It was really interesting, because in these 3 weeks I do see that chinese people spit.

Three weeks in Keats School in Chengdu

I just returned from China after completing three weeks of 1-on-1 classes in Keats School in Chengdu. My overall impression on both the curriculum, living conditions and support on behalf of the school is very good. I feel that my listening and speaking skills improved and I learned lots of new words, meaning and correct usage of which were explained in detail by my teachers. My teachers were Ms. Zhou Yi and Ms. Pan Ying (周乙 and 潘颖), and the lessons they arranged for me were very interesting and interactive. They used different ways of teaching, including speaking, listening practice, translation, and reading. I'm really thankful for their support and encouragement, and looking forward to studying in this school again when I have chance. The school's life assistant Claire was exceptionally supportive and willing to help. The tours, food nights, cultural events she organized were so cool! And I also liked the meals provided by the school - I'm glad I had the chance to taste so many different home-made Chinese food, which was very delicious. Many thanks to the school for the warm welcome and perfect organization of my stay there!

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would stay longer, because now I feel like three weeks was not enough and I didn't want to leave. I think next time I'd stay for 8-12 weeks.
Pros
  • Beautiful city
  • Convenient location of the school
  • Excellent teachers

Nice teacher

Keats School is very clean and well-organized, which made me feel comfortable from the first day. The environment is nice and suitable for studying, and everything is arranged in a systematic way. The meals are also good, with a good variety of food.

The staff are kind and helpful, especially Ma Lao Shi and Yurina. They supported me a lot during my trip and were always ready to help whenever I had questions. Thanks to them, I felt more relaxed and confident.

My teacher used a student-centered method and focused on active learning. She chose the most important lessons for me and explained everything clearly. She also gave me many chances to practice, so I can use what I learned in real life. Overall, I had a good experience and would recommend this school to others.

A fantastic experience at Keats!

I had a really fantastic time studying at Keats school in Kunming, China. I did a 2 week program for four hours a day with Yuki and I found the whole experience to be fantastic. Yuki was a terrific teacher who was both fun and really good at teaching. She explained things in a way which was clear and suited my skill level. In a short time, I learned so much and I enjoyed it every day. Keats school is also a great place to stay. The three meals provided each day were healthy and tasty. The staff are really caring and helpful, and I really enjoyed getting to know the other students. I really enjoyed my time in Keats so much. I hope to visit again very soon.

Unforgettable experience!

My experience at the Chengdu campus has been truly positive. The school itself is excellent, very modern, with beautiful infrastructure. The classrooms are well-equipped and comfortable, with air conditioning, and there’s also a lovely terrace that makes the whole environment even more enjoyable.

As always, the lessons were extremely useful. Ms. Pan is a great teacher, we focused a lot on listening and conversation, along with some key grammar structures, which made everything very practical and engaging. What I really appreciated is how she adapted the lessons to my needs, making the experience both effective and personalized.

Claire deserves a special mention, she is incredibly kind and always available to help in any situation. The school also organizes a wide variety of activities, which are great for immersing yourself in the local culture and making the experience even richer.

Overall, this has been a truly unique experience, and I sincerely hope to repeat it in the future.

Keats- the gold standard

The Keats School has been one of the best investments I’ve made in my Chinese learning journey. Their focus on tailoring the learning experience to each student really sets them apart, and it led to dramatic improvement in my own Chinese in a short period of time. I also saw the same kind of progress in many of the other students around me. I spent one week studying in Jingmai Tea Mountain and time at their headquarters in Kunming, and both were incredible experiences in their own way. I was fortunate to have Rose as my instructor, and she was outstanding. She was patient, diligent, highly skilled, and knew exactly when to push me further and when to slow down to strengthen weaker areas in my foundation. Each day we worked through vocabulary and grammar review, dialogue practice, reading, and writing, and every lesson felt purposeful and personalized. In the afternoons, the school organized excursions that added a whole new dimension to the learning experience. We visited beautiful places, interacted with friendly locals, and had guided experiences around both the tea mountain and Kunming. It gave me a much deeper sense of Chinese culture that added an extra dimension of understanding to the language. Another thing I appreciated was how organized and thoughtful the program was. At the end of each day, detailed lesson notes were sent to me for review, and custom flashcards were created daily to help reinforce what I had learned. That level of support made it easy to keep improving. Overall, the program offered the perfect balance of academic rigor and real cultural immersion. I would highly recommend Keats School to anyone serious about learning Chinese.

Peng teacher evaluation

My teacher was excellent in stimulating the student in learning. She was very well prepared and organized in terms of teaching material and methods. She knows where students are lacking and where to improve in her student’s language skills. She is knowledgeable and sensible so that encourages her student develop his own thought in a suitable way to Chinese language use. I would strongly recommend her to mid or high level Chinese learners. Comments for the better teaching are to provide teaching materials in papers, not only on the screen. I really enjoyed various activities with students from many countries.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Encourage you to take advantage of language buddy program.
Pros
  • Opportunity to practice what you have learned in the class to real life
  • Make local friends
  • Broaden your knowledge of Chinese

Study in Beijing

I had a wonderful learning experience with Keats Chinese's school in Beijing. The school is very conveniently located in the heart of Chaoyang district, which makes it very easy to get access to a wide range of cultural experiences unique to Beijing. The city's environnement is very welcoming, and navigation is made easy through apps like AliPay and Weixin. At no point during my trip did I feel lost or unsafe, despite the size of the city. The teaching staff is extremely helpful and encouraging, providing personnalised teachings according to your own goals and chinese proficiency. Beyond teaching, they also provide help with any problems you might encounter during your trip, whether it be ticket reservation or navigating local applications. The teachers' ability to go above and beyond the scope of simply teaching was the highlight of my trip. I really recommend this course to those wishing to take their chinese mastery to the next level. Thank you Keats !
