Dream Careers Experience

The environment that Dream Careers set up was magnificent. We worked hard and everyone was on the same playing field experiencing different interests of theirs. Everyone went to work and also shred their thoughts ant the end of the day. We all benefited.

Worth the Investment

When I first applied to the program after getting an email from my school, I didn't really know what Dream Careers was all about. I spoke to someone at the company to get more info and then talked to my parents about going to Miami for the summer because I needed help getting an internship. That was my main goal and I thought Miami would be a fun city to live in for the summer. I really had no clue what the program was.

My parents were really nervous about spending the money on the program but decided to support me and we went for it. It was a great decision and I'm happy I did it. I would have never been able to get the internship I had in PR, meet people from around the world and live in one of the most beautiful cities in the world with Dream Careers. I plan on moving to Miami after I graduate.

The only advice I would give would be to budget well for the summer. I ended up going out a lot in the beginning of the summer with friends in the program and it was great but I ended up spending most of my money in the first 4 weeks. Pace yourself!

Hard to Top

My internship was great - very relevant and helpful, and the IHK staff were often checking that everything was on track in that department. The internship was only half of the experience though of course and even besides the planned excursions we had social events every night within the group. 12 weeks felt like a long time, and maybe was slightly too long for me, but that may have been because I was one of the last from the summer lot to leave so I felt it go from super busy to a much smaller group very quickly. I had an incredible time, and look forward to returning.

What would you improve about this program?
A bit of earlier planning for the excursions - some things felt a bit last minute.

Intern Melbourne Experience

Whilst I enjoyed my experience with Intern Melbourne, I still feel the programme needs time to further develop. Given more time to develop business contacts, Intern Melbourne would be able to better connect interns with their preferred sectors. Despite this, I feel I gained a lot from my internship, both personally and professionally.

I'm not certain if I would recommend it to a friend though, due to the cost and currently, the ambiguity about other interns being there at the same time as a prospective intern. I believe Intern Melbourne has a positive future, and like all new ventures, just needs time to expand.

Take the Opportunity

It's so difficult to obtain an internship now days. This program walks you through step by step to make sure you secure the best internship possible. They plan seminars and networking events that allows you to make connections with people and possible employers. It's an incredible opportunity to succeed and it would be silly to pass up the chance.

What would you improve about this program?
I'm not sure there is anything on Dream Careers end that could improve. They were really there every step of the way.

Develop yourself professionally and build lasting connections!

Building connections in New York City is difficult for students that are unable to break into their dream industries alone. Intern Group is an amazing way to gain access to the career of your choice and be supported throughout the entire summer by a staff that is committed to your professional development. Every minute of this internship experience was enriching and exciting. I highly recommend any of the Dream career's programs.

Interning in Marvelous Melbourne

I started looking at summer internships last April/May and began to worry about how I would find a quality program that would allow me to travel abroad and gain valuable experience. When I came across The Intern Group, I instantly got a good feeling.

From the moment I applied to the program, to the phone call I received telling me my spot was secured, The Intern Group was available for assistance every step of the way. The Intern Group employees were extremely informative and eliminated the nerves of traveling to a foreign country alone.

I spent my 6 weeks in Melbourne working as a marketing intern for Yellowfin, a leading business intelligence software vendor. From the second I arrived I was put to work and already learning valuable skills. Yellowfin allowed me to publish blog posts on their website, help illustrate a case study, and assist in researching and preparing a white paper about self-service business intelligence and data visualization.

The work environment at Yellowfin was extremely laid back. The Intern Group set me up with a mentor at the company making the process of adjusting to the new internship very smooth.

The Intern Group also does an excellent job with the social aspect of the internship. My favorite part of the internship was being able to get to know all of the interns. I was able to meeting friends from London, America, Canada, Peru, Scotland and more! Although 6 weeks seems like such a short time, the people you spend your time with really feel like family by the time you leave. A memory I will always recall is going to get drinks after work at a pub near our accommodation. The $5 pizzas are something everyone can get excited about!

Lana, our event coordinator, planned amazing events that allowed the interns to see how incredible Melbourne really is. We were able to feed kangaroos, cuddle koalas, view the skyline of Melbourne from exciting rooftop bars, taste just about every type of food possible, and more.

Intern Melbourne program is an amazing opportunity that will not only enhance your professional career, but will forever change you as an individual.

What would you improve about this program?
The only suggestion I have is to choose an accommodation with a better location.

Just go!

This summer in Medellin, Colombia has easily become one of the greatest summers I've had in years. Despite some negativity and concern from family and friends I arrived in Colombia with an open mind.

Intern Latin America does their best to take care of you from the moment you arrive providing you with a driver who picks you up and takes you straight to your accommodation. Within a few days you have an official introduction with the ILA team where they explain a few more things to know about Medellin. The team, along with the majority of people you'll meet in Colombia are extremely inviting, friendly and easy to get along with. Regardless of your Spanish level, many of the locals are both eager to help and patient enough to wait as you stumble along trying to make sense in their language. It's an excellent place to learn or perfect your Spanish, so take advantage of it!

Fortunately when I arrived there were already a few social events planned, mostly due to the World Cup games, which provided an opportunity to get to meet some of the other interns on the program. This was a huge plus as my roommates and I lived in a separate building and wouldn't have had the opportunity to meet any of the others prior to that event.

Medellin is an exciting and upbeat city, and getting to be there in the midst of the world cup madness was proof that Colombia has some of the most passionate, happy and welcoming people. There is always something to see or do in the city. Granted you do still have to be careful not to flaunt your wealth or act in a way that draws unnecessary attention, however I generally felt quite safe in the city. As with every city, there are good areas and areas to avoid, and this is no exception. The team does their part to warn you of these areas in your introduction.

My main intention of doing this program was to have an opportunity to develop my language skills, experience a new culture and meet many of the locals. For these reasons it was an excellent experience all around. My actual internship wasn't the most educational experience but that may have been due to not knowing how best to make the most of their interns. It was a little difficult to get time to see my boss or get any feedback on the work I was doing until it was a little to late. However, I will say that after communicating my concerns to the ILA team there was a noticeable improvement at work and an increased effort to involve me in more challenging projects.

On that note I found the Intern Latin America team to be extremely helpful and supportive. I think it's unrealistic to expect them to be able to solve every problem, however they do their best to assist in any way possible. They were a pleasure to work with and an absolute blast to get to know. In the end, as with any experience like this it all comes down to what you make of it. It's easy to forget that you are in a developing country because it is so beautiful, but be prepared to be flexible in your expectations in areas such as housing or work pace etc.

The program is on the upper end in terms of cost, but if you have the money I would most definitely recommend it. Travel around Colombia as much as possible, and spend more time out in the city talking to people than you do in your apartment and you will have a good time! Medellin is an absolutely beautiful and unique city and Colombia is a country that is so much more than its past.

What would you improve about this program?
I think this program could be improved if prior to arrival interns were made aware of where they would be living, what it looked like, and things to expect etc. The majority of the problems mentioned by some of the other interns all revolved around not knowing what they were walking into before coming.

If possible, it would be helpful if the ILA team could make the effort to drop by the apartment after you have settled in so that it's easier to communicate any issues right away and know that the support is there if you need it.
