Volunteered 6 weeks in Córdoba, Argentina

I spent 6 weeks in Córdoba, Argentina as a sports volunteer. Even though school was not in session, I was able to attend 3 different sports camps and even volunteered at a soup kitchen. The experience was rewarding, allowed me to practice my imperfect Spanish and I met fellow volunteers from around the world.

The local team opened their home and hearts to the volunteers and made us feel welcome, answered our multiple questions to the best of their ability and created a safe and fun environment for all.

It was my first volunteer experience abroad and it won't be my last!

I will never forget this experience

I feel so lucky to have had this experience! The program was incredible, I didn't want to leave. I loved how social it was having a house full of people from all over the world. I definitely recommend doing at least 4 weeks as 2 certainly wasn't enough. The local team were amazing and I never once felt unsafe the entire trip! There is so much opportunity and time outside of your placement to do lots of fun activities such as going on a safari or to the nearby waterfalls. Already thinking about planning my next IVHQ trip.

Transformative Volunteer Experience in Bali

Volunteering in Bali for the Healthcare education teaching through IVHQ in overall makes my experience great. It was a transformative experience that combined meaningful service with cultural immersion for me. From contributing to community projects like teaching the basic healthcare education and cultural discovery through introduction week with soaking in Bali's stunning landscapes and vibrant traditions, every moment was deeply fulfilling for me. The journey highlighted the impact of collective effort, fostering personal growth and giving back where needed, gratitude, and a deeper connection to the world. It’s a highly recommended experience for those seeking purpose, seeking adventure, and seeking a meaningful way to explore the world.

First is the best

This was my first international Volunteer and I had a great opportunity to explore the places, new culture, and way of living of local people. The program process and guidelines are very understandable and comfortable. Also, local teams and coordinators are great and very supportive of every new volunteer and guide easily to involved in the volunteer task as per the schedule. Teaching the local students was one of the best things that ever happened. They were very respectful, energetic, and learners. I would suggest to upcoming volunteers not to be nervous because everything with local teams will be fun and they will take care of very smoothly and politely.

What was your funniest moment?
It was first at the school. We were new to the student and for us same as well. Since English is very limited for them and their BAHASA (local language) is limited to us, there were couple of awkward moment created, and we both laughed. Eventually, they felt comfortable with us, which was very satisfying at the end.
Pros
  • All local teams and coordinators are very helpful, supportive and active.
  • Learned about new language
  • explored new places especially temples are unique and famous.
Cons
  • Local teams and Coordinators should learn more about their cultural history to provide more information to new volunteers

Fulfilling & fun experience

This was such a fulfilling experience! Whether you pick something you already have a passion for, or want to try something new, you will find purpose in the work. Especially seeing the direct impacts and how thankful & happy the locals are that we’re there.

The local team & coordinators were extremely helpful getting us acclimated to the new environment, being there for all our needs, and giving advice on local sightseeing spots. Aside from time spent on your project, you also have free time on weekends to travel which is wonderful!

An Unforgettable Volunteering Experience in Zambia with IVHQ

I volunteered in Livingstone, Zambia with IVHQ, and I truly loved every moment of it. The volunteer community there was wonderful and made my experience even better. We did so many fun activities together — safaris, bungee jumping, and visiting Victoria Falls.

The local team was super helpful and kind. The food was tasty and more than enough, and the accommodation was good. There are also some new buildings that were just recently completed, and there’s a good chance you’ll be placed in one of them.

It takes a bit of time to find your rhythm at your placement, and in my opinion, you really need to figure out on your own how to make an impact. The teachers were very friendly and supportive, and they let you focus on the areas you’re best at. There was no pressure at all, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable.

IVHQ was amazing!

IVHQ was absolutely amazing! The service I received right from the start from Scotia was above and beyond my expectations. She was so thorough and always available to answer my questions.
The local team in Nepal were great as well. Friendly, informative and fun. They were always there if I needed anything and gave me all the information I needed to make my 2 weeks in Nepal amazing. IVHQ is a great organization doing amazing things so I highly recommend them. I cannot wait to book my next adventure. Thanks for everything, I loved my volunteer placement, people were so nice and working with the Elephants was so very special for me.

Volunteering in Cape Town, South Africa with IVHQ!

I spent 16 days volunteering and traveling solo for the first time in my life with IVHQ at the beginning of February. I worked on the surf outreach and early childhood education programs in Cape Town, South Africa, and it was truly the best experience of my entire life.

I have always had a deep passion for volunteering to improve the lives of children and animals in my local community, but it was time to extend my efforts beyond the United States. This decision turned out to be the best one I have ever made. I fell deeply in love with the people and culture of South Africa, and I formed friendships that I will cherish for the rest of my life.

I can’t wait for my next volunteer trip! 💛🇿🇦🌎

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
If you are considering volunteering through IVHQ - do it. I felt extremely supported during my entire trip, especially being a single girl in my twenties traveling alone. The local staff at our volunteer house were incredible and so kind + my rep that helped me plan my trip was also super helpful and answered all of my questions so that I was fully prepared to take on this journey!
Pros
  • The locals
  • The ocean/ beach
  • The other volunteers (you will make best friends from around the world through this program)

Highly recommend

I really loved my 3 weeks in Hua Hin (one week of culture week and two of teaching English). The local team were very supportive and welcoming and provided us with great accommodation, transport and food. My volunteer programme allowed me to make a direct impact in the community by helping lots of children age 6-15 learn and improve their English skills. As an 19 year old girl who was travelling solo for the first time, I felt very safe and supported and made many great friends with the other volunteers. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone who wants to step out of their comfort zone and make a difference.

New experience

This was my first volunteer experience, and from the very beginning, both the teacher and the children welcomed me warmly. Regardless of nationality or age, I was able to connect with the children through various activities. The time I spent with them is something I treasure deeply. I learned a great deal and made many discoveries through this volunteer experience, which far exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend those who are interested in volunteer program. I guarantee that this volunteer experience will definitely change your perspective and provide valuable insights for your future.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
"Sam" (Horseshoe Crab)
I tried it at the flower market for the first time. People usually boil and grill it. The egg of Sam had a unique flavor and taste that I've never tasted anything like this before.
Pros
  • meet new people
  • immerse new culture
  • expand my horizons
Cons
  • long lunchtime break ( -- but it's good time for taking a rest or exploring somewhere)
  • wake up with rooster sounds (-- But it has made my mornings more meaningful.)
  • The number of motorcycles always requires attention for your safety.
