TESOL 120 hours: Amazing

My motivation to complete this course was in order to be able to complete volunteer work in school in the Pacific Islands. The course (TESOL) was extremely well planned, systematic and organised. The use of regular tests was great as it reinforced my knowledge, and prior to sitting my final exam, I re-sat each test (good move!).

I had some anxiety about the grammar demands of the course, however it was taught in a way that 'hooked' me and consequently ignited a high interest in the subject.

I was surprised (and relieved) at how easy it was to negotiate the technical demands demands of the course.

I am now going to enrol on a further course in order to consolidate my learning.
Great course!!

What was your funniest moment?
Some of the terminology was unique to teaching (and I am a health professional), for example 'realia'!!
Pros
  • Easily read and understood-in general (palatable).
Cons
  • Course is in USA English not UK English (an optional choice might be a good idea).
  • As NZ moves more closely to biculturalism, I was aware that the programme did not accommodate this.

World TESOL Academy. Great overall value.

As an Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) teaching English in Japan, with no prior background in education, this program has helped me elevate my teaching game by a lot. I took the 120-hour course, which starts you out from the basics and then tackles other topics such as classroom management, lesson plans, holding online classes, etc. Even if you were a seasoned teacher, but didn't have the certification, this course would help refresh your memory about things that you may have already studied but may have forgotten along the way, and would also add a sprinkling of new information that you might've missed since you last studied about teaching. They offered assistance through "tutors", but the course was easy to understand and the interface was simple enough that I didn't need to contact them. I hope to introduce this program to other ALTs

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I would probably take down more notes from the lessons, and run more practices. I would also try to review the previous lessons before taking the final exam.
Pros
  • Smooth and clean interface.
  • You can take the course at your own pace.
  • "Tutors" are available should you have any questions or confusion about a topic.

Encouraging and Challenging

I am a native English speaker but also Nigerian, meaning I have an accent and a somewhat different vocabulary than Canadians or Americans. However, I am interested in teaching English to others who speak it as a second language. At first, I thought it would be 'easy' because I grew up speaking English and went through all my education with the English language. Going through the course was encouraging as I could affirm my fluency but also challenging in that certain things I take for granted would be essential to teaching English as a second language. It took me a while but I like the available timeframe to complete the course.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Go in with an open mind and a willingness to learn, unlearn and relearn. English is dynamic and teaching is dynamic as well. This program gives great value for combining both.
Pros
  • I could always resume from where I stopped
  • I had multiple attempts at the quiz
  • The quizzes actually tested what was taught in the modules

Time and Money

Honestly, it was a rewarding experience to realize that although you may be a fluent English speaker, it isn't as easy as it is when it comes to teaching. There are many aspects of teaching and perspectives of non-native speakers this program was able to enlighten me. It helped review many grammar aspects in English that many fluent speakers would have not taken note of but it is crucial to teaching a non-speaker. Over all a very complete course, It will surely be an eye-opener for many of you, if it ever crossed your mind, English is known as one of the easiest languages to learn, what could be so hard in teaching it?

What would you improve about this program?
I think there can be more interactive slides and videos to make the course more engaging.
Pros
  • sampling videos of classroom activities
  • some visual slides
Cons
  • not very colorful to engage learners

Great experience

It's been really exciting and funny to get into this world. The world of words, phrases, and discourses that has so far endowed us with great theoretical teaching moments. All the tips and pieces of advice have been helpful. The trainers were so helpful, too. The support is another feature that I liked most here. The modules have selected carefully, and presented in a way that is gradational so that we can gain their content beneficial value. They have been in touch all the time through emailing. Thanks for your support!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Stick to the program and read carefully everything because this will provide with what you want to realize.

TESOL

I recently completed the TEFL/TESOL course, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience! The lessons were well-structured, and each module built perfectly on the last. The instructors were knowledgeable, and approachable, and made learning engaging with real-world examples and interactive exercises. I loved that the course focused on grammar and vocabulary, practical communication skills, and cultural nuances. The resources, like practice quizzes and downloadable materials, were incredibly helpful. Plus, the flexibility of being able to study at my own pace was perfect for my schedule. Since finishing, I feel much more confident in my English skills and even noticed an improvement in my speaking and writing. I highly recommend this course to anyone looking to enhance their English fluency or for teachers wanting to upgrade their skills!

A Comprehensive and Rewarding TESOL/TEFL Course

I recently completed the TESOL/TEFL course, and I can confidently say it was an exceptional learning experience that has equipped me with the skills and knowledge to teach English as a second language effectively. Whether you're a seasoned educator looking to expand your skill set or a newcomer to teaching, this course offers a thorough and accessible curriculum tailored to meet diverse needs.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
One of the most nerve-wracking moments for me was when I took the final exam for my TESOL/TEFL course. After weeks of studying and completing the modules, I knew the exam was the final hurdle to earning my certification. The pressure to recall everything I’d learned and apply it under time constraints had me feeling anxious.

To overcome the nerves, I reminded myself that the exam was just a reflection of the knowledge I’d gained throughout the course. I reviewed my notes and took a few practice quizzes before sitting down for the exam to refresh my memory. During the test, I focused on staying calm and pacing myself—if I didn’t know the answer right away, I moved on and came back to it later. In the end, the experience taught me to trust in my preparation, and I passed with confidence, feeling accomplished and ready to take on the next step in my teaching journey.
Pros
  • Flexible and Self-Paced
  • Comprehensive Content
  • Practical Learning
Cons
  • Self-Motivation Required
  • Limited Interaction
  • Limited Feedback
