At Home with GoAbroadChina

Stepping into my GoAbroadChina homestay felt less like arriving at a stranger's house and more like entering a warm embrace. My host family welcomed me with genuine smiles and a comforting familiarity that instantly eased my nerves. Sharing meals together, filled with laughter and lively conversation, became cherished moments. Exploring the local market with my host mom, learning to cook traditional dishes with her, and sharing stories with my host dad in the evenings – these experiences woven a tapestry of shared memories. The comfortable familiarity of the living room, the warmth of my bedroom, and the feeling of being truly included in their daily lives made me feel less like a guest and more like a cherished member of their family. GoAbroadChina's homestay program wasn't just about accommodation; it was about experiencing the heart and soul of Chinese culture through the lens of a loving home

Learn Chinese by GoAbroadChina

Learning Chinese in China has been an absolute dream come true! GoAbroadChina's homestay program has exceeded all my expectations. My host family is incredible – they're so welcoming and patient, always encouraging me to speak Chinese and gently correcting my mistakes. They've even included me in family dinners and outings, giving me a real taste of everyday life in China. I'm constantly surprised at how much I'm learning, both inside and outside the classroom. Living with a host family is not only a more enriching experience, but it's also incredibly budget-friendly compared to other accommodation options. I'm saving a significant amount of money while having the most authentic and rewarding cultural immersion. I'm so grateful for this opportunity and the incredible support I've received from GoAbroadChina and my wonderful host family

What was your funniest moment?
Trying to order food with my limited Chinese, I ended up with a plate of "spicy pig ears" instead of the "spicy pork stir-fry" I intended.
Pros
  • Customized Experience in china
  • Safe and Comfortable Environment even late night outside

The homestay can be recommended to everyone by GoAbroadChina

Staying with a host family through GoAbroadChina was an experience I’ll never forget, and I highly recommend it to anyone. From the moment I walked into their home, I was treated like family, not just a guest. The warmth and kindness of my host family made me feel at ease, even though I was thousands of miles away from home. They patiently introduced me to Chinese traditions and customs, which helped me gain a deeper understanding of the culture.

One of my favorite parts of the experience was enjoying delicious, home-cooked meals every day. My host mom made the best dumplings I’ve ever tasted, and she even taught me how to make them (though mine didn’t look as perfect as hers!). Conversations at the dinner table were always lively and filled with laughter, even as I stumbled through my beginner-level Chinese. They encouraged me to practice speaking, which helped me improve my language skills faster than I expected.

Beyond the cultural learning, the homestay offered a sense of security and comfort that’s hard to find when living abroad. My host family took care of all the little things, from helping me navigate the city to recommending the best local spots to visit. They even celebrated my birthday with a surprise cake, which was such a heartfelt gesture.

The bond we formed was so genuine that I still keep in touch with them to this day. This homestay was more than just a living arrangement—it was a chance to build relationships and truly immerse myself in a new culture. If you’re considering GoAbroadChina, I can’t stress enough how much the homestay program adds to the overall experience. It’s an incredible way to learn, grow, and create memories that will stay with you forever because of GoAbroadChina.

What was your funniest moment?
One of funniest mOne of the funniest moments I had during my homestay with GoAbroadChina happened when I tried to help my host family prepare dumplings for dinner. They showed me how to fold the dumpling wrappers neatly, and while their dumplings looked like perfect little crescents, mine ended up looking more like oddly-shaped balloons ready to pop!

Everyone had a good laugh, and my host mom jokingly said my dumplings had "special personality." Later, as we cooked them, my poorly wrapped ones floated to the top like tiny life rafts, which made everyone burst out laughing.
Pros
  • Real-World Experience
  • Personalized Support and Warmth
  • Authentic Cultural Immersion
Cons
  • Cultural Adjustment
  • Different Expectations
  • This immersive experience fosters deep cultural understanding and helps you develop adaptability and cross-cultural communication skills—valuable traits in today’s globalized workplace.

GoChinaAbroad Learn Chinese with Homestay program ( Volunteer )

My volunteer program with GoAbroadChina in Beijing lasted a month, during this Christmas season, Beijing is full of wonder and beauty. Even though you will have to walk in the freezing cold (in fact the temperature dropped to -13 degrees, it was the coldest day in China ever.) Seeing the positive side of our shaking hands (when having to get pictures of the magnificent architecture of the traditional temples for example is that when climbing the Great Wall I could not have imagined myself going up to the top during summer!

I chose to work in a school for my volunteer program as I am comfortable and unwind around children (I have six younger sisters and brothers). I thought that it would definitely boost my Mandarin, as there certainly will not be the option to communicate in any other language with children from three to seven years old! Teaching them was a delight. They were attentive and eager to learn. Even the younger ones who were at first afraid of me would sit on my lap while watching a movie by the end!

Yes, indeed be prepared for them to point at you, scream, and laugh I should have recorded a video of this little boy not older than 3 who every time I spoke would burst out laughing like I was the funniest attraction in the world, I laughed back as you can’t get mad or offended at children. However, what I found more difficult was how adults would turn back to stare at me in the subway or even on the roads I just felt like saying ‘what is your problem??’ to turn around or even glare at them but you should understand that foreigners (and particularly me as I have blond hair and blue eyes) are something new to them and we are seen as objects of fascination not as people. This would be the advice I would give: smile or ignore.

I would definitely recommend ‘GoAbroadChina’ without hesitation whatever your age (I am sixteen) they give you just the correct balance between freedom and their fun organized events. You can always get in touch with any of them if you require help which is very reassuring, they are fantastic people that if you get to know them around a good Chinese dinner (little advice for vegetarians china is not the best place, the menus are in Chinese and they are no ticks or anything of the sort to tell you the vegetarian options which are in most restaurants not even available as chinese love eating pigs and the meat there is particularly cheap however just tell the ‘fu wu yuan’ the waitress ‘wo chi su’ which means that you are a vegetarian and they will help you to choose) you will learn so much about culture, gain experience, listen to their stories and from the ones the other students taking part in the program will share with with you on their country (Morocco, Tunisia are two places which never really tempted me to go visit before however I am planning to go to Casablanca and in the north of Morocco now that they I have been invited there and heard so much about it which made me so curious to go see for myself.) Making friends is one of the other main highlights of this company the range of people just never ends, so different but in a way so similar it is difficult to explain so just go and have one of the best trips of your life and get unforgettable memories. GoAbroadChina is my family to treasure.

What was your funniest moment?
Warm, hardworking, and deeply rooted in tradition, Chinese people value family, respect, and harmony. Known for their resilience and hospitality, they share rich stories through food, festivals, and art. Their spirit blends ancient wisdom with modern innovation—truly inspiring. Thank you GoAbroadChina for the experience
Pros
  • Customized Experience
  • Authentic Cultural Experience
  • Memories Beyond Compare

GoabroadChina is a really good program

Hello, my name is Sofia. I recommend GoabroadChina because it was a really good program they helped me with a lot of things. For example, when I arrived at the airport they picked me up, helped me with the SIM card, and took me to my hotel. They talked to the people from the hotel so they helped me with that then they also offered to walk me to the school so I could see the school. The Chinese classes were really good and the job they got me was also very fun it was all I wanted, so I really recommend working in some company that GoabroadChina offers.
