Great city, great program

CEA CAPA study abroad in Prague was so much fun. The school is located in the middle of downtown and a 15 minute walk to the host university. Within the first week we had welcome and get to know you activities in various places. We started off by meeting a lot of the other schools in a bowling alley, it was a fun atmosphere where we got to play and talk to our students. Throughout the semester they offered plenty of activities to keep us excited. Their classes were informational, but not too challenging and by the end I felt like I knew a ton about the people and the city.

What was your funniest moment?
One night when my phone died, I took the wrong tram home from the city center and ended up on an express line to the airport.
Pros
  • English speaking
  • Central location
  • Safe
Cons
  • Not much to do outside the city
  • Host university felt a little foreign
  • Cold for awhile

An amazing experience!!

I loved studying abroad with CEA CAPA. I was unsure of the experience at first, as I have never done anything like this before. CEA CAPA made Prague feel like a home away from home. Every staff member I met seemed to truly love their job, and they helped me fall in love with the city. I am so happy that I made the decision to study abroad and I would not change anything about the experience. The housing was awesome, it was spacious, clean, had everything we needed, and was in a local apartment in the city, which helped us feel even more immersed in the culture. Overall, studying abroad was one of the best decisions of my life, and CEA CAPA made the entire experience a dream!

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
The most nerve-wracking moment for me was getting off the plane in a foreign country! But, I was greeted kindly with a CEA CAPA employee, and my worries were eased right away.
Pros
  • Made a lot of friends
  • Beautiful architecture
  • Knowledgable staff
Cons
  • Language barrier
  • I was unfamiliar with the public transportation system at first, but learned within a few days

Summer 2025 Prague

I was the youngest student in my group that went which made it a bit awkward in the beginning, but when I got to the airport, the staff were super sweet and very good at communicating with me about events and meetings we needed to attend. They planned really fun and insightful trips for us to really get to know the history of Prague and Czechia as a whole. The city itself was beautiful and very walkable! The only thing was that the apartment did not have AC per Europe standards which was not at all CEA CAPAs fault, but was a bit frustrating to maneuver.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Ask all the questions that you have and really commit to understanding the history of the country. It really does change your view of historical events, especially because we are only ever taught history from the lens of the US and seeing/hearing about the same historic events through a different lens emphasizes the complexity and importance of learning from history.
Pros
  • walking
  • close proximity to anything all the time
  • the trolleys and metro station <3
Cons
  • very hot :(
  • walking

Prague: Above and Beyond!

I had the best semester abroad in Prague, Spring 2025! I went into my program with little expectations, I did not know much about Prague. However, from the very beginning and throughout the program, up until the end, my expectations were being surpassed and I felt fulfilled. Prague is a small city (compared to many other European cities), full of historical sights and stories, with an amazing food scene, and many attractions. Prague is the city of nature lovers, as it contains many beautiful parks in which I felt like I was in another world, not in a loud city. The hilly landscape creates many great overlooks of the city. Additionally, the transportation system is amazing, with punctual trams and the metro connecting all parts of the city. When speaking with other people who have visited Prague, we always agree that Prague is seriously underrated. So I encourage you to study abroad in Prague, and make sure to try their famous beer during your time there!

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
If I did this program all over again I would also do an internship. I found myself with a lot of spare time, which I did manage to use well, but I could have managed to balance an internship along with my schoolwork and personal life. Additionally, I believe an internship would have provided me with a deeper experience, meeting more locals, and seeing how the job scene in Prague is.
Pros
  • Cheap country
  • So safe!
  • Architecture
Cons
  • Long winter
  • Crowded during peak tourist times
  • Stay away from scam ATMs!

An Amazing Way to Spend Your Summer

Living abroad in Prague presented me with a new experience nearly every single day. Even the mundane things, like drying clothes or staying cool during the heat of the summer, was a new learning moment when you're in an entirely new place. The educational quality for having non-native English speakers was excellent, and I feel prepared for future courses that will use knowledge I've gained abroad. The host program is more than accommodating and stops at nothing to make sure you feel comfortable in such an unfamiliar place. I lived in Prague 7 which was super convenient to get to class each day via the tram. Prague as a city is wonderful, there's great food and plenty to see/do during your time abroad, and also geographically enables you to travel to a wide variety of other countries for incredibly cheap if you choose.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Don't be afraid to try new things! I picked up running while in Prague and one time after a run I met a stray cat who played and chilled out with me in a field for a while. It was by far one of the most fond memories I have of my program, and it only happened because I decided to use the city's huge parks to my advantage.
Pros
  • Education quality
  • Great city and ability to travel on the weekends
  • Great accomodations

Abroad in Prague

Spending a semester in Prague was truly a rewarding and fun experience. Prague is such a beautiful city with a rich history, and there is so much to explore. The program itself was very organized and supportive throughout the entire journey before and during abroad. Through hosting activities and sharing resources, the CEA CAPA team made the transition into life abroad seamless. They let us get to know each other while also exploring the city together and learning about its history. They also took us to other cities in the Czech Republic.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
The most nerve-racking moment for me while abroad was stepping off the plane in Prague and beginning to look for the CEA CAPA program team to get to my apartment. This was when it really sank in that I would be living in a different city for a semester.
Pros
  • Gained self-confidence
  • Trusted myself
  • CEA CAPA was very helpful
Cons
  • Scary and overwhelming in the moment

An Unforgettable Summer

I was super nervous as I packed and traveled to Prague. I had been to places in Europe, but I was taking a leap because I had never been to the Czech Republic, and I was about to be there for 8 weeks. This summer was genuinely one of the most positive experiences that I've been fortunate enough to have. While I learned a lot about my new friends and the new culture, I learned a lot more about myself than I thought I would. This summer taught me to invest in my friendships and the city that I'm in.

Had an Amazing Time Abroad!

I got to have an internship abroad and it was amazing! I learned a lot about European law and Czech legislation. I also loved being able to immerse myself in Czech culture, I learned a little bit of Czech and learned about the history and Traditions in the Czech Republic. The city is so beautiful and vibrant and I miss it every day. The excursions were also so much fun. The excursions are included in the program fee and I had an awesome time on each one. I made a lot of friends and met a lot of people and my professors were amazing and very supportive. I highly recommend this program and encourage more and more people to go through this program.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
My advice to future travelers on this program is to try your best to learn about the culture. Czech culture like many cultures is different from American culture and I feel the best you can get from traveling to Prague is immersing yourself in the culture and learning about the history and language.
