Best Experience Ever!!

Studying abroad through CEA CAPA in Prague was the best decision I ever made. I was able to fully immerse myself in Czech culture by trying new foods, exploring Prague, and learning about the history of the city. The city had so much to offer from its beautiful architecture and art to its distinct food and drink culture. I was also able to meet so many other study abroad students through CEA CAPA some of who I know will be lifelong friends!! Also the classes I took allowed for me to learn so much about Czech culture and history.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
To research all the areas of Prague and their distinct cultures.
Pros
  • Safe city
  • Great classes
  • Immersive living and learning

Summer in Prague

This was my first time traveling within Europe, and I am glad I did it through CEA Capa. The academic aspect of the program was very manageable, so I was able to have fun and explore while receiving a good quality education. There were a lot of activities offered through CEA Capa that were covered by the program fees, and I never regretted attending the ones that I did. The housing I was provided was also very spacious, and even while living in a triple, I felt like I had enough personal space. The staff is very accommodating, so whatever issues I have faced were solved immediately! Overall, my experience was exceptional, and I am already planning the possibility of studying abroad again.

Prague - The Perfect Destination

I spent 4 months in spring of 2024 studying abroad in Prague! While abroad, the classes I took both with CEA and my Prague university, were incredibly engaging and interesting. The classes are the right amount of difficult, so you won't be spending endless long nights studying, but still feel like you are learning new information. The staff was so sweet and always available to help whenever you needed anything. The various trips CEA provided during the program were some of my favorite parts of my study abroad experience. The city is full of incredible architecture and history. The public transportation can be confusing at first, but is easy to learn quickly. Studying abroad I was able to gain a new sense of independence. I cooked meals for myself every week, and I made a budget for groceries, activities, and trips.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
I was very nervous going into this program about being on my own. I am a homebody and had never been that far from my family before, so I was stressed about living on my own and making new friends. However, when I arrived in Prague, I got to know my roommates and others in the program. Making friends was so much easier then I thought, and I realized all my worrying leading up to the semester was unnecessary. It took a slight adjustment to living in an apartment, having to cook my own food, and using public transportation, but after a few weeks all my worries went away.
Pros
  • Full of history
  • Beautiful clean city
  • CEA has a great support team to help you out
Cons
  • Czech language is hard to learn

8-Week Study Abroad in Prague!!

I studied abroad this past summer in Prague through CEA CAPA, and I can whole-heartedly share that it was the best 8 weeks of my life!! Being able to grow my academic, professional, and personal development during my time abroad taught me lessons that will stick with me for the rest of my life. I took two courses through CEA CAPA and my home university (UMich), and I was still able to travel to over 10 different European cities. If you are thinking about studying abroad, CEA CAPA's program in Prague is outstanding!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
My advice to future travelers on this program (and if you plan to study abroad/travel in general) is do your research!! Doing even a little bit of Googling before you travel to a whole new country with a different culture and lifestyle is so valuable. A couple questions I would keep in mind are: What are the basic phrases in this country's language? What are the prices like in this city? What are the most important sites or historical places to visit? What types of food is the city most known for? How does public transportation work?
Pros
  • VERY affordable costs
  • Picturesque and clean city
  • Great social scene and nightlife
Cons
  • Difficult language (Czech)

Its a Europe Summer

Living in Prague for 8 weeks was a lifetime experience. I didn't think I was going to be able to afford the program but with financial aid and scholarships. There I set a specific budget for everyday things, touristy things, and travel money. I learned to cook for myself every day and would go to the corner store about twice a week. The lady after 6 weeks finally warmed up a little. It was very affordable, only about 20 dollars per week for food. And since I took care of my expenses so much I was able to add a last-minute travel plan to Croatia, which made it all worth it.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
When booking a trip, remember that just because getting there might be cheap doesn't mean that the food, activities, attractions, and transport won't add up, so its always something good to keep in mind.
Pros
  • Affordable
  • Beautiful clean city
  • Very safe
Cons
  • Czechs are very cold people

Studying Abroad in Prague With CEA CAPA

I studied abroad in Prague my sophomore year of college. I really enjoyed my time abroad and the support given by CEA. The housing was in a great location near city center and you could navigate the city well with public transport. The courses taught were engaging and connected well to class excursions. We took trips to museums, markets, other cities within the Czech Republic and more. The teachers and staff were understanding and always willing to help. The most difficult aspect was the language barrier, most people speak some English in Prague but once you leave the city most don't.

Pros
  • Low cost of living.
  • Great nightlife and social scene.
  • Full of rich history.
Cons
  • The weather is quite cold and grey for a lot of the year.

Prague - Good Academics, Good History, Good Fun

I went to Prague as part of a study abroad program with CEA CAPA. The professors and CEA CAPA staff were all incredibly supportive. The city is extremely safe, even at night. I got to live with 5 other college students who were a part of the program, and many of the other students in the program lived in the same building as well. Prague is a city with rich history and a vibrant night life. Getting to class is easy with the tram system. As part of the program, there were excursions built in at no additional cost. I was able to go to the Czesky Krumlov as part of the program, which has the second largest castle in the world (1st is in Prague). I would recommend this city and program to all because of its accessibility, safety, fun, and affordability.

What would you improve about this program?
The only thing I would improve about this program is that they partner with Anglo American University in Prague, which is a small private school. They do this to offer more classes, but the academic quality isn't as good. The CEA CAPA classes are structured well with good professors, so I hope they can offer more CEA CAPA classes in the future.
Pros
  • Safety
  • Largest castle in the world, rich history, good architecture, good museums
  • Good food
Cons
  • It can be hard to meet Czech people
  • The night life can be filled with tourists
  • Anglo American University Classes aren't as good

Ajoy!

I had such an incredible experience in Prague. I had the best experience of my life. I learned so much both in the classroom and outside of it. The teachers I had at CEA CAPA are the best teachers I have ever had. One professor was even a diplomat and taught us all so much. The CEA CAPA staff helped me and supported me through adjustment and challenges, and the community of friends I found abroad traveled with me and laughed with me over the semester we spent away from home. Prague really became a second home. Having other students in the building we lived was so much fun. By living in student housing in the middle of a residential area I truly feel that I got the best of both worlds. I found my favorite local cafes and bakeries by the time I left and I still dream about them now! I can't wait to go back one day.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
I had an injury while I was abroad and I was very scared. I did not know how to handle it and I was in a lot of pain. Going to a hospital can be very scary even when you are in your own country and speak the language, but even more when you're alone. I used the 24-hour emergency CEA phone number and the women who answered helped me through every step of the way. She gave me good options of nearby hospitals that would speak English and had helped other students in the past. She also continued texting me throughout the night to help me as I was cared for.
Pros
  • It was a huge learning experience and taught me how to handle difficult situations
  • I felt so supported by the CEA CAPA staff
  • I got to experience health care in Prague
Cons
  • It was very scary and distressing
